The squash salad was delicious and different. The halibut was cooked perfectly, but was a small portion served with only a bit of spinach. The service was very slow and they forgot one of our entrees. The chickpea entree was boring and not very good.
Excellent food, actually amazing!
We made a note on our reservation and informed both the hostess and our server that we were celebrating a birthday for a special friend and nothing happened. There was no acknowledgement. We split two desserts. We weren't expecting a Farrell's Zoo, but you'd think they'd put a candle in one. Nothing.
Arriving 15 minutes early (all the way from NYC) and holding both great promise and appetite, our party of two was told our table was not ready and would we enjoy a seat at the bar for a bit? Of course! With a lovely wine list, time passed, it did become obvious our booking had been overlooked as we enjoyed a lovely bottle of red. 45 minutes into it, a half a bottle of wine depleted, indeed this oversight was confirmed. Seated with the offer of complimentary bread basket and/or dessert (which never recv'd nor interest repeated), the food was indeed amazing. Inventive, unique, deliciously fresh, the delayed seating was truly the only downside of this fabulous find. Thank you Fautleroy!
Next time we would ask to be seated at a regular table instead of a high top.
Excellent service and unusually delicious...love the name
Really enjoyed the short rib and fall squash salad. Cocktails including the 1971 were excellent. Good service. I always get the worst table but they gladly moved us to a better one.
It was difficult to put together a well balanced and interesting dinner from the menu choices. Felt chefs were trying too hard to be “ unique.”
perfect venue and meal to celebrate my birthday! outstanding!
Would like to see more meat for the trditional diners
This was my second visit, first dinner. The restaurant was busy at 7 but slowed shortly after. The food has been great for lunch and dinner - but the service is just not acceptable. Beyond the hostess, the bartender seemed annoyed while we ordered drinks waiting for the table. Once we got to our table they literally forgot about us - over and over again. It took over a half hour just to order, then we kept having to stop the staff and ask about drinks, coffee, etc. They actually told us they forgot. Even when we were one of only two tables in our section - they were forgetting to bring our orders. I want to love this place - food and ambiance is wonderful, but the service ruins the experience.
We went on a Wednesday night and the music was hard rock/ headbanging intense. That was the only real negative we had about our experience. they did turn down the music when we requested it. Unfortunately it did detract from our experience, Making me uncomfortable inviting others to join us and expect to have a conversation.
The only thing better than the food was the service...our server Kristen was exceptional. A fabulous dining experience!
It was a pre-theater meal with 75-90 minutes to casually dine. We advised our server and with only one other table of diners, we shouldn’t have been rushed at the end to finish eating and getting to our show. Nonetheless, our sever was friendly and efficient; just a slow kitchen. The food was okay. My chickpea cake was a bit dry. The grilled broccoli small plate had a nice kick in several bites.
Great experience overall! The staff was so friendly! The food was amazing, and the service was even better. I would highly recommend the French Onion Soup as a starter -- best we have ever had! - We left full and ready to come back soon!
Expensive for small plates. Tiny Scallops were served cold but they were kind enough to take them off of the bill.
Lemon blueberry desert was the highlight of the meal. It is a must have if you go there.
We decided to go with small plates. They were expensive but not impressive. Would go with entrees if we go back.
First visit since this restaurant replaced Coquette Cafe. The decor was a step up and our menu was more interesting than the previous place. Tried the melon salad and French onion soup. Soup was perfect and the mix of pork belly in a warm sauce gave the melons a unique flavor. Other items tried were the halibut, short ribs, and the burger plate. Our service was a little slow between firsts and main entre, but since we were friends, we had plenty of time for conversation. No dessert this time and nicely priced menu.
We loved the service and the ambiance. Food was also beautifully presented and full of flavor. The garlic aioli with the fries is a must.
I have dined at Fauntleroy a handful of times and each occasion has been beyond lovely. The servers and management are both kind and engaging. The food is absolutely delicious! I have loved every dish I have tried (fois gras, steak frites, melon salad, everything!). I have a number of food allergies and the kitchen not only crafts a thoughtful menu that already considers a variety of dietary restrictions without sacrificing taste, but also works to accommodate or adjust menu items that conflict with a dietary restriction, when possible. The decor is sharp and stylish. The drinks are so tasty it’s hard to not have more than one...or two...or three! And I’ve enjoyed every bottle of wine that’s landed on our table. We’ve hosted two birthday celebrations at Fauntleroy in the past five months and a couple of date nights too. It’s definitely my go-to spot and I highly recommend you make your way to this restaurant. Ha, I’m definitely going back soon.
They definitely are trying to go for the French bistro feel, but the food doesn't match expectations. Not that its bad, its just not what you'd expect based on the price point they've set.
Taylor offered impeccable service. Thank you!
Delicious, creative French food with flare! So good, deserves a return trip soon.
They were flexible in helping with a last-minute change to our reservation. We also had a special request (one group member was attending as a surprise) that they were so helpful in coordinating. Service was a bit slow later on in the meal, but the food was delicious and was a fair price.
We drove to Milwaukee on 9/11 on I94 during the worst storms ever and it was worth it
Fauntleroy is a terrific restaurant. Loved their seating arrangements and the food.
Our favorite dishes the Gruyere filled Gougere, Chicken Liver Mousse, Steak Frites with Aoli, Mergeuz sausage and any dessert..the 1/2 price wine was a huge plus and we really enjoyed the French Cabernet
We were very upset when Cafe Coquette closed but delighted with our new favorite restaurant
Wonderful service & delicious food!
Love everything about Fauntleroy! Servers are always knowledgable and have great suggestions for wine pairings. It is a mostly small plates place, so don't go expecting a huge meal and the larger portion meals may leave you wishing you went to a supper club. However, if you're into sharing with your partner and dont need a ton of food this is a place I would recommend!
The menu is very limited I thought..overall the food is nice
Let the waitstaff guide you through a fun delicious meal! From the first sip of a perfect cocktail, through the don't-miss bread plate, 3-4 apps, and 2 bigger plates, we were happy diners. Our "helper" steered us in the right direction for every course, and she was not only delightful (she read our table SO well), but gave perfect suggestions on what we should order, and with what. Every bite was tasty! Our second visit (1st was in October) with a couple of interesting changes. Be an explorer and have some fun here!
Enjoyed the foie gras, the funnel cake with Iron Grate ham, lyonnaise salad, and grilled broccoli salad. The new menu to focus on small plates was great. Our waitress was knowledge and pleasant.
Food and service were excellent. The scallops and chicken were delicious along with the wine.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Milwaukee. I lived in the Los Angeles area for many years, and Fauntleroy is definitely on par with my favorite restaurants there. This is a must when you are in The Third Ward. I can’t recommend it highly enough. Every dish I’ve had has been wonderful. My personal favorites are the gougeres, Bibb lettuce salad, scallops, and the banana mousse which is more dense than other mousse, but it’s incredible! They just ran out of the Torchon de Fois Gras, so that will have to wait until my next visit. The service is excellent, exactly what I’d expect from a restaurant of this caliber. I can’t wait to go back again!
The only issue for us was the stairs.
Nice meal, expensive. Although the walls were devoid of artwork and the martinis were small the service was excellent and the meal left nothing to be desired. Kind of like French food in general.
We had delicious, reasonably priced wine. They took care of the two birthdays we had and the food was phenomenal. Gruyere gougieres were to die for. So were the scallops. It was my second time back and it did not disappoint!!
Used to be Coquette Cafe. We were here once before after it changed hands, but now the menu is different. Two things worth mentioning: No bread served with the meal, and country music on the stereo. Where's Edith Piaf?
Staff was friendly and accommodating. Meal was fantastic. Will be back many more times!!
Great visit! Excellent food. Our server was really good - she just left us sitting a little long once in a while. We'll be back!
