Highly recommended through our hotel concierge (four seasons). My husband and I arrived 15 min early for our reservation. When we arrived there were many open tables available. The hostess told me we could only be seated at our reservation time which I found absurd. Then when i asked if there were heat lamps on outside and she told me they are on one switch and if we sit outside everyone had to have a heat lamp. I requested an indoor table and she said our table would be ready after our reservation time. We saw the waiter once to order and he was in a huge rush. The bus boy primarily took care of us. We ordered the burrata which had zero taste. The garganelli was amazing! My husband ordered the steak and I ordered the salmon both which were pretty good.
Our first time here. Beautiful space, great service (AJ), and the good was outstanding. I’m a polenta fanatic so whenever I see it on a menu I order it. My wife had the papardelle, also wonderful. She had the short rib... expertly cooked and the smoked mushrooms are something I will have to try at home! I had the Linz steak, Long Island cut. I thought it was sous vide, but it was just cooked and seasoned perfectly. One of the best steaks I’ve ever had. The gelatos (amaretto and pistachio)... let’s just say “bravo”! One thing I would like to know is, where can I get a set of those steak knives?
We had passed the Fat Ox on many occasions but had never eaten there before. We took the opportunity to do so this past "Restaurant Week" and had a great meal and a great time. All the food tasted great and was presented beautifully. Definitely on our list to eat there again.
Very small portions for the price paid. I will
only return if I receive a discount on my next bill.
The food was amazing! Everything was delicious that the table had. We went during restaurant week so I don’t know if that effected portions but I didn’t feel that were particularly generous. The entree was basically just meat and a couple (literally) vegetables. But, like I said was so good! Our service was not great and I would hope that’s not because of the restaurant week discount but we only saw our waitress three times and had to let our food get cold before our wine was refilled to eat with the meat. I would recommend this place based on the food however, nobody was dissatisfied with their food.
While the food was good, I wouldn’t return because the service was completely inadequate. Considering the wide array of restaurants in the Scottsdale area, I’m not sad to remove this one from my list. It took us over 20 minutes to get our drinks and we had to stare at the hostess whose outfit was highly inappropriate. It’s clear that there is a total lack of effective management.
This was our first visit, we had heard good things and it was restaurant week so the perfect time to try something new. Cody and Brian were our servers. They were supported by several bussers and food runners. Cody was able to accommodate my gluten allergy and answer questions about the menu.
The meal was delicious and well paced. We had the salad and buffalo mozzarella crostini as starters, the steak and short ribs as entrees and the tiramisu, panna cotta and lemon crema for dessert. Everything was flavorful, fresh and satisfying. It was a lovely meal and we will definitely return.
The restaurant is really dark and really loud. I have 20/20 vision (and I’m not old), and I had a hard time reading the menu and hearing my dining companions speak. Staff was great, as were the appetizers. Secondis were lackluster at best.
Really like the energetic vibe. Very happy with the excellent wine list especially those offered by the glass. My halibut was amazing. I like the idea of small plates but you need to be careful. The cost can add up quickly.
Best restaurant we've been to in a while and we go out and try new places frequently. Mastro's has been letting us down lately, it's safe to say Fat Ox has taken it's place. Thanks for such a great experience. Jacob our server was phenomenal and extremely knowledgeable about the menu.
Went here with a party of five and had the cheeseboard appetizer, pappardelle pasta with pork, beef short ribs and pistachio gelato. The cheeseboard was great- had some unique mild cheeses and fresh prosciutto. The pappardelle pasta had an amazing flavor and the pork was very tender. The beef short ribs had a demi glacé sauce over them that I did not like and they were very charred. I would definitely not order them again. The pistachio gelato was smooth and had a hint of rose flavor to it that was delicious. The ambiance was very modern and the music was very loud.
Excellent meal and service! Will be back
The food as delicious and the service was exceptional. A great date night!
Michael assisted by Brian did a very great job waiting on us. Explaining any questions we had and not rushing us. This was the three of us first time at Fat Ox and we are returning as 5 very soon
Good Food nicely prepared and presented. Service attentive but not intrusive. Manager is outstanding host.
Spent Mother’s Day at Fat Ox. $600 for brunch for 3 kids & 4 adults was not enjoyable. My meal was a small bowl of pasta & a trip to the Caesar salad buffet. I would gladly pay this much for an outstanding meal, but this was not. The children had three small pancakes & a lemonade, nothing more. This was our first Fat Ox experience but it will also be our last. I would like to add that our server was attentive and gracious.
I took my wife to the Fat Ox for Mother’s Day brunch. The food was excellent. Started off with the buffet of appetizers, all amazing! My wife had the salmon and I had the Italian breakfast. Spectacular! Service was excellent. We sat outside and the weather was perfect. The meal ended up being very pricey. They also added a 20% tip which I thought odd for a party of 2. It was a $300 meal including the tip. As I told my wife, it was worth it because we had a very nice morning together...will only be back for special occasions though.
The brunch for Mother’s Day was exceptional.
The food had a very interesting complexity, very enjoyable. The restaurant had a good buzz. I would have enjoyed a little more light to see and savour my meal. The small adjustment in lighting levels would not effect the ambiance. Very enjoyable evening with friendly service.
This restaurant was impeccable in everything that they did. The service was outstanding, the environment was beautiful, and the food was nothing less than amazing. They made our celebration so much more special. I have already recommended it to several people and I can’t wait to come back!
It was wonderful the ribeye was better than the same thing I had at Gordon Ramsey’s
Perfect corner table away from the noisy bar. Interesting menu with two versions of burrata and excellent mussel appetizers. As ordered steaks and scallops plus interesting veg. We'll return.
Very good experience on our first visit here. Jacob, our server, was attentive and spent a good deal of time explaining the menu items. Food was outstanding. The veal meatballs (appetizer) were yummy as was our pasta dish. We had a hard time choosing our dishes and will definitely be back. It was our anniversary so desert was complimentary which was a nice touch.
The service was friendly and professional. Ambience was modern, sleek and welcoming. Food was outstanding. The attention to fresh ingredients and detail was like nothing I've had in a long time. Tuesday night and the restaurant was full. Will definitely go back.
Out of our party of 5, 2 got sick. They both had seafood. One person had the scallops and the other had spaghetti and clams. I’m guessing there was some cross contamination. Other than that, we had a very nice experience overall.
Caesar salad made for two at table side was the best we’ve ever had. My Manhattan was smooth and the Pinot Lizette recommended was enjoyed by my husband. Lizette, was on point with her recommendations. Hubby’s spinach and cheese tortellini was outstanding and my pasta with pork ragu was delicious! Shared pistachio gelato was the perfect ending to our meal. It was recommended that we have a secondi after the pasta, however, since we started with the salad, our pasta dishes were sufficient. I’d love to return but live in another state. We’ll have to revisit the next time we’re back n Scottsdale.
Excellent recommendations by our server. We will definitely return when we are in town.
Just a truly amazing meal. We ate at a high top in the bar area. The waitress was lovely and very helpful. The food was truly outstanding. I am celiac and she was very gracious and helpful about accommodating me and making great suggestions
Food & cocktails were delicious. Service was great. This was our 1st visit while visiting AZ but we would definitely go back.
We visited Fat Ox with a party of 6 for the first time to celebrate our son’s graduation. We had a great time and the reviews about the quality of the food are not overstated. From starters through dessert/coffee each plate that came looked and tasted amazing. Our server Lizette was outstanding and a true pro which made the whole experience so enjoyable.
This might be an ok place to come in after golfing and sit in the loud bar, but for an anniversary dinner, it was terrible. Not only the ambiance, but the TERRIBLE service. We had to order a cosmopolitan TWO times. Apparently, he forgot the first time. Ok, I get it, people make mistakes. But when we had to order AGAIN, you would think he would make a point to get it fairly quickly. Instead, we basically never saw the guy again. People who had been seated after us were served their drinks. Finally, we left without tasting any food. We couldn't even get the guy to come back and give us our bill for a bottle of Pelligrino. There were at least 6 people who saw that we were leaving without ordering. What they should have done is call us as we were driving away and apologize for the terrible service. But they chose to do nothing, because apparently they don't need any more customers. That's the difference between a really good brand (they manage problems before they get worse) and an inferior brand (Fat Ox). We ended up going to Elements to take our chances. Fortunately we lucked out and got a perfect table and when we ordered a martini, it was there instantly. We bought a nice bottle of wine, spent hundreds of dollars and left a good tip. We should have gone there in the first place.
The steak on the appetizer menu is amazing and one of my favorites! I'm coming back for that steak and Sarah. She is the best server in the bar.
We always have a wonderful time here. The service is great and the food is delicious.
While we loved our food we loved our server AJ, we thought the place was lovely but the noise level was horrendous. We could barely talk to the couple we were with. While we would give the restaurant a second chance in a different room the couple we were with will not go back again because of the noise level
Great place for friends to gather for a culinary experience.
A solid place for a great dinner and cool vide. One of our favorited places to meet up with friends or have a romantic dinner for two.
Great place! Would definitely visit twice. Kind of loud for a mid-high dollar establishment, but in a way that gives it a "family Italian place" feel. Food was stand out from many common restaurants in AZ. We'd recommend the Pistachio Ricotta at the start.
There's nice seating for 2 "people watcher's", and many larger groups as well. The service was good.
It only missed out on being great because we waited for just a minute before our server arrived for the greet... but after that point Scott and other service staff did well for us.
Lovely night out. Really enjoyed the “fat ox experience” and did four courses. Appetizers, pasta, mains and desert. Highlights were the burrata, speck pasta and short ribs. I even enjoyed the duck sausage pasta and “I don’t eat duck” or rather I didn’t eat duck! The bombe desert is delicious. Quite an amazing experience!
Excelent food and service, very good wine list, very recomendable
This was a delicious meal from start to finish and the service and everything was lovely. I would come back here for sure. Get the Bibb lettuce salad!
