Fat Ox Ratings and Reviews
Amazing, delicious salads and dinner overall was fantastic but the poor server was just spread too thin...he asked us twice for our drinks, said he would explain the specials and menus and never did and failed to engage our table at any level because ... he was run ragged- the guy did not stop once in two hours as he zig zagged between his tables- we frankly felt like a burden as he just could not keep up- maybe this won’t happen to anyone else or maybe this is the norm at this well done Italian hot spot!
What an awesome experience/meal, the personable hosts and the talented Chef made for a memorable evening.
• TABLESIDE CAESAR SALAD

• SHORT RIB ALLA VACCINARA

Thank you Fat Ox, we'll definitely be back ❤️
They do a solid job. It’s upscale trattoria food with some nice touches. The pasta dishes are small so you can have one with yr entire. The wine list has some very nice values if you ask for guidance. Don’t leave until you’ve tried the Bombe Afogato. It’s da bomb!
Visiting from out of town and had a fabulous Valentine's Day Dinner! We are not usually fans of any limited or price fixe menus, but had an absolutely amazing meal. If they can turn out that level of quality on a super busy night, a normal night must be superb! We'll be back!!!
Awesome experience at Fat Ox. They really hooked it up for my birthday. Food was unique and tasty. Waiter was professional, nice and attentive. They took care of us and made it a special night. Manager was badass, one of the best dinners experiences I’ve had in quite some time. I’ll be back.
The restaurant was very loud, which caused a number people at group tables around us to feel they needed to speak even louder.
The food was good. Some of the dishes were pedestrian and some were amazing, so it evened out so to speak. My wagyu steak was excellent and extremely flavorful, but we waited an excessive amount of time for our entrees, the waiter saying that it was because my first steak was overcooked and needed to be redone.
The waiter comped us a desert after all that, which was very classy and appreciated. And no complaints there - the tiramisu was one of the best I’ve ever had and the homemade pistachio ice cream was super flavorful.
I used to rate this place as one of the best in Scottsdale, but it has absolutely lost any chance of seeing me back there .....the service was beyond pathetic, Kathrine was actually very nice, but she paid no attention to the table, had 3 or 4 helpers who were clueless .....we ran out of wine 3-4 times, we asked for the pasta to be served before the main meal but they simply would not let that happen ....even after repeatedly asking them they still just threw the main meal on the table....then served more pasta afterwards ..... sad and disappointed as I truly used to enjoy this place.
Great restaurant with delicious food and drinks and amazing waiters. Their suggestions were perfect! Loved the table made Caesar salad. All of the pastas we tried were wonderful. And the swordfish and short ribs fantastic. Best teramisu we ever ate. We will definitely go back!
Food was excellent. Loved the table side Caesar salad and the very large 35 oz wine glasses. Nice list of Italian wine. A little bit higher markup on the wines than most restaurants, but the experience was great. Our server was very enthusiastic about the food.
Our dinner with friends was absolutely delicious! Don’t miss at least sharing one of the incredible homemade pasta dishes. I had the swordfish that was seasoned perfectly. My husband had the filet which he said cut like butter, our friends had the scallops and crispy skinned salmon. They raced about their choices. We each had a cocktail and then shared a bottle of wine which our waiter gracefully decanted for us. The negative was waiting 15 minutes for those cocktails after ordering them and the moderately high noise level. It’s not so bad that you cannot have conversations with your table mates but it is noticeable. We’ve gone here before and taken advantage of the happy hour menu that goes to 6:30pm. And we will definitely go back!
Everything from our greeting to end of the evening was just perfect. Our service provider was a delight, helpful, informative and just the right amount of attentiveness. If I recall correctly her name is Mary.
A special evening for my wife was carried very well. Thanks to the Fat Ox.
Overall, it was not a great experience, which is disappointing as it was our first time there. Despite making reservations well in advance, my party was seated at a "high-top" in the bar area, closest to the kitchen. I think the party could have been seated at a table in the dinning area, but no attempt was made by the host.
While our server was friendly, she and the "runners" were very pushy in clearing our plates as quickly as they could. It truly felt like they were trying to "turn the table" for the next customer. They repeatedly asked if plates could be removed about ever two minutes, it felt like. At one point, one member of the party was the only one left eating, making him feel like he was eating too slow as everyone else's plates had been cleared from the table.
In the end, the food was outstanding but overpriced. I was looking forward to my first trip to the restaurant after hearing good things, but I left disappointed. Probably won't be becoming back for dinner, but maybe for a drink at the bar.
This restaurant uses a repetitive beat soundtrack that just about drove me crazy. That alone would ensure I never return. The server was fairly overworked or distracted because she was not attentive, the wine we wanted was not available, and we had to send a dish back because it was raw. That amounts to three strikes, they're out. If you do decide to go, the truffle pasta was one bright star in our evening. The scallops, which take skill to prepare, were underwhelming.
