Wonderful meal with excellent service!
Lovely meal. Service was excellent and very personable
Fantastic meal with an intimate setting—La Brasa is always a buzzing spot but Fat Hen is a softer, more quiet experience still full of flavor and exciting options. Definitely a great date spot!
From the service to the food everything exceeded our expectations. The 4 course menu was just enough food and an amazing way to explore the menu.
We had a great meal at Fat Hen. Both of us ordered the Prix Fixe with the wine pairing - the server was knowledgeable and the food was outstanding.
Just dined here again with my cousin and her husband who just returned from a vacation in Lardin in southern France. They said the experience at Fat Hen reminded them of dining in Lardin at some michelin rated restaurants there. We all did the chefs 6 course with wine paring, the chef brings out the dishes and explains the preparation and ingredients. These guys make their own sea salt by evaporating water from the maine coast! create and great attention to detail ... Been there 3 times and will be back again. If you want to pick your own food (which we think is less fun and adventurous, you can do the "pick 4 courses" thing and get larger portions that you choose. ) We'll be back again soon...
Great food. Cozy ambience. The drinks are very overpriced for the very small pours.
Excellent, combination of cuisine and service was well balanced.
The six course tasting tour was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Such beautiful presentation and unique dishes. The chef is an artist and the service was excellent. Loved every bit of it.
The risotto was a 10/10, ribeye and duck breast 7/10, crudo and foie gras were just so so. Overall solid experience
Awesome food experience! Highly recommended
Absolutely outstanding in every way
This is our third time at Fat Hen and each dinner has been amazing. There are very few tables and the service is fantastic. Each time we have ordered the four course prix fixe, which allows us to sample more of what the chef prepares. This time, we also did the wine pairing. Although expensive, it is a real treat for a special occasion. Highly, highly recommend!
Excellent meal with unexpected flavors! Truly well done
Beyond delicious. My husband got the 6 course chefs choice meal and I got the Ceaser and gnocchi. Everything was outstanding. Very unique dishes, super fresh and local ingredients and a really great staff. Talking with them was just as enjoyable as the dinner itself. additionally, they went out of their way to accommodate his low sodium diet and my annoying picky habits. Thank you!! Can’t wait to go back already!
Amazing pasta in a cozy atmosphere with really lovely service
We had a great meal. Tried the prixe fixe and we had an almost perfect meal. For our antipasti my husband and I have the “crackers” and the “burrarata”. Both delicious, very difficult to chose the best one. For our secondi, agnolloti and lumache. Both were very good but the lumache won this round. Between the bistecco and the pesce, the bistecco one hands down. The pesce was on a bed of beans and my black beans were nearly raw. I was told this was intentional to add a little variety to texture. I was not impressed. There is a wide line between raw and crunchy... these were raw. I enjoyed the fish very much but the black beans nearly ruined my meal. Fortunately, mostly everything else was sublime! Love this place!
Came here for my 30th birthday with my husband. We each had the 4 course tasting menu and were blown away by how delicious every dish was. Service was excellent and the atmosphere is intimate and cosy.
Definitely will be returning for a special night out and recommending to friends!
This is my third or fourth trip to the Fat Hen. The restaurant is small and cozy, a treat compared the bigger and noiser restaurants in Somerville. The food is wonderful and the staff is pleasant and very attentive. I’m going to keep coming back!
We had the best meal! Fantastic unique Caesar salad and pastas. So happy we tried it and will definitely be back. I would recommend the restaurant put in some noise absorbers though as a a loud group really was loud!
We were so impressed by everything at the Fat Hen when we went for a special dinner with my sister and her husband. We all ordered the 4 course tasting menu and tried nearly everything on the menu. No one had a single complaint about any of the courses - rave reviews all around. The ambiance was very cozy and conducive to intimate conversation. Also worth nothing is that Jamie the server was super friendly and accommodating. We will definitely go back and try the 6 course chef's whim tasting menu. It looked amazing and very creative.
We had a wonderful meal and enjoyed a wine pairing that was perfect. The service was great. Jaime was terrific. We would recommend highly.
Was eager to try Fat Hen under its new chef, and happily, was not disappointed. The food is still excellent, though a bit different from in the past. We had the 4-course prix fixe, and the wine pairings, which were really outstanding. Can't wait to go back and try the Chef's Whim!
My son just moved to this neighborhood and we picked the Fat Hen Broadway East pretty much at random after a long day of shopping for and setting up his new apartment. We were very pleased with dinner. The arancini were the best I’ve ever had (and I’ve eaten many!) and my gnocchi were excellent. My son enjoyed the fish pate with crackers and the pasta with wild boar sauce. We’ll definitely come back with my husband the next time we’re in the area.
The only reason I gave 4 stars for the service is that we had dinner on the early side and were seated at a table right next to the only other people in the restaurant. Otherwise, the service was very good.
Overpriced, local neighborhood restaurant. High quality ingredients, prepared in interesting ways. Just too expensive. Also, lowest price wine is $15/glass.
We won’t be back unless prices are adjusted for the location and ambiance. Also, restaurant needs to offer an affordable glass of wine.
Can't say enough good things about this restaurant. Service was impeccable, food was creative, well constructed, balanced and absolutely delicious. I can't wait to try The Fat Hen again!
Simply one if the best dining experiences we have had in recent memory. The manager and waiter were very personable and professional and the waiter, Jamie, really knew the menu and was passionate about the dishes and ingredients that were all either homemade or locally sourced. Every dish we had was outstanding! Love this place!!!
A Meal Cut Short When Fat Hen DId Not Honor Its Own Confirmation Email!
We had been looking forward to going to Fat Hen as we had heard great things about it. In fact, the food was excellent and the service was quite attentive. Between the four of us, two of us each had the four course inclusive meal, the other two ordered dishes separately, and two of us had drinks (i.e., we didn’t go in there and just order appetizers).
Our reservation was for 6:00pm and the four of us, all professors who travel a lot (we were not a rowdy crew), were eager to spend time together as we had not seen each other for four months.
The kicker: the email confirmation said:
“You are confirmed! Thank you for choosing Fat Hen Broadway East. To allow us to accommodate all our clients, your table will be reserved for a period of 2 and half hours. Should your plans change, please let us know. We look forward to serving you.”
Our plans did not change. However, Fat Hen’s did - and at no time did they apprise us of this, at least not until they informed us that we had to leave 20% earlier (in terms of the time promised to us). Had they told us when we first reserved a table that they would kick us out after just under two hours, we might have gone somewhere else, avoiding Fat Hen entirely. At 7:52pm, not quite two hours from the start of our reservation, the waiter came over and informed us that we had only 5 more minutes because they needed the table. This was not the 2 ½ hours promised in the email confirmation from them which guaranteed us our table until 8:30pm.
What does this suggest? (1) We were fortunate that it was still warm enough outside for us to find a bench on the sidewalk where we could continue to talk with each other. However, what it means going forward is that we will not make any more reservations at Fat Hen until late May or early June, when warm. (2) You may want to do the same.
I was really impressed by this restaurant. It's a bit out of the way, but it makes up for that through delicious food and excellent service. I had the caesar salad and squid pasta; both were excellent (the salad was a generous size). My friends each had separate dishes, and reported how good they were. I ordered a cocktail and found it quite smooth. The server was informative, professional and informative. He did not rush us, yet we did not have to look for him when we needed something (a hard feat for most restaurants). We had to wait a few minutes for our table when we arrived, so they offered each of us a complimentary glass of sparkling wine, a nice touch. I'd definitely recommend.
We loved everything about the restaurant. The intimate size, the service, and all of the food, starting with the warm sourdough bread served with butter and olive oil, the Caesar salad which is beautifully served and incredibly good, the pastas, the duck, the trout and the inventive desserts. Looking forward to going back.
Absolutely fabulous!!! Excellent service and the food was wonderful!! Thank you for a fantastic evening!!!
We had the six-course tasting menu. The very congenial chef came to the table to describe every course. Our waiter was attentive and charming. Could an amuse-bouche oyster send you to heaven? Yes! The food was fabulous.
Well crafted modern Italian, not in the Italian American Red Sauce idiom. Well chosen wine list, with special attention to Sicilian wines (where I think the current excitement is in Italian wines).
Looking forward to next time.
Keep an eye out for wine dinners. Upcoming late Sep 2018 Cusumano (Sicilian winery with wide range of wines)
Got a late reservation and sat at the 2-seat bar facing into the kitchen. We ordered the prix fixe menu with a wine pairing. All of our dishes were creative and delicious, and the pairings were excellent. The kitchen and waitstaff provided an excellent experience throughout the evening. Great value and quality of food. I would definitely return.
Fantasic food offering - menu is a little small. Also open table listed it as only $ when it was really $$. Fantastic customer service from our server he clearly owns his role there and has a passion for his diner experience. I the pre-nighttime lighting could use some work- specifically the noise that the flapuresenct lights omit. Food = a
Delicious!!! Great staff and food.
Had some drinks to start and they were perfectly balanced. Both their regular drinks and when special things were requested.
Food was all very good but with fairly small portion sizes. Waiter was helpful and very nice.
The room itself is very small and very dimly lit. The tables are also very close together. Fortunately it wasn't too busy on a weeknight but it might feel a little cramped if it had been busier.
Very disappointing. The first time I ate here a few years ago when it first opened was fantastic. Now it’s microportions of expensive, bland, poorly thought out food.
Great experience! Our server was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, and the person serving our drinks (manager?) was friendly and charismatic. Portions were great for the 4 course prix fixe. My only "less-than-perfect" feedback is that there was a wedding next door that got a bit loud at times and interrupted the ambiance, and the chocolate mint sorbetto didn't quite hit the mark, it was a bit salty. But I'm eager to come back again and try more of the menu!
Initially we weren't so sure about the menu but all 4 of us had fabulous meals and I must say the Risoto was out of this world. We were all pleasantly surprised.
