Yum. We originally had a reservation in September, but another patron rented the entire restaurant that evening. We were given a sincere apology and a generous gift certificate. That took the sting out of it. The restaurant has a small but handsome dining room. We did the four course tasting with paired wines. At $100 per person, that seemed like a good value, especially given the quality of the food and wine. Our server was relaxed and knowledgeable. We'll be back.
The service is incredible and the food is delicious! We tried this place a few months back and fell in love! Any occasion, this is always our first pick.
Awesome experience over all, excellent food, excellent service.
I will recommend this restaurant to any one
Our party of 4 was celebrating a big birthday. We were early yet seated with grace. The 4 course dinner is a treat - variety, small sizes enough to sate without overfilling. Everything done to perfection. Recommend the duck and swordfish. Waiter was attentive and thoughtful, service was excellent. We will return.
Fantastic experience, I would highly recommend others to try.
Will absolutely be back
Chef Brian and his team ( including the service team Jake and Jamie) create magic! Excellent food and wine pairing ( Jake’s choice of wine is a true experience itself). An absolute culinary highlight! We love Fat Hen!
This restaurant has had high ratings. Not by us. The food was insipid. We had a scallops crudo and caesar salad for starters. The crudo was fair, the salad was worse. We had a gnocchi for primo which had little taste beyond the dumplings. The duck breast came out medium and again lacked any excitement. The waiter was very pleasant but the service was very slow. Of note; On open table the openings were only between 615 and 900. We came at 615 and way fewer than half the tables were taken until we left at around 815.. Huh?
It was sooooo cold! The food was lovely but I had to eat with my jacket on it was freezing.
We had a fantastic dinner at Fat Hen. Good and service was excellent for our pre Fixe meal and would highly recommend the wine pairing. Great value for the meal and experience. We will definitely return soon!
great food, extensive menu, highly recommend Fat Hen Broadway. Definitely a neighborhood gem.
We love Fat Hen, we found this gem about a month ago when we were visiting Boston. The service and food if fabulous!
Excellent service. Jake was great! Delicious meal.
A delightful find in Somerville. The food was absolutely delicious. Each dish we had was fabulous. We had the new fall menu and tried appetizers, shared a pasta and each had an entree. The pate I had was delicious and paired perfectly with the pear accompaniment. We loved our pasta dish and my sword fish was amazing. We definitely will be back. Wines are thoughtfully chosen, we had two biodynamics which we loved. Keep up the great work!!!
Wonderful food and ambiance - our server, Jake, was the top of the top: personable, articulate, talented, and a wonderful 'guide' throughout the meal.
We loved our meal at Fat Hen! The food is excellent and the staff is extremely knowledgeable. We will definitely be back!
Some of the best food and service I have ever had. Fat Hen was incredible!
Our fifth time here. Chef Brian prepares amazing dishes from local sources. Jake always makes us feel tremendously welcome. This place never fails. Great food.
This was a great find. Our waiter was very personable and service was terrific. We had a pork and a fish entre, both were carefully prepared way beyond what one would cook for oneself. The Caesar salad was uniquely done with cured egg and roasted bread crumbs. We were there early so I don’t know how noisy it might be at the height of dinner hour. Dinner was a delicious adventure. Definitely go if you love great food.
Great Chef’s Whim tasting menu. Good variety of flavors.
Great food, prepared and delivered very well.
Lovely atmosphere, incredible food and great service! Will definitely be back!
Fat Hen goes on being my favorite restaurant, full stop. This time there were six of us, ranging from just 21 to 78. We were all delighted with the food, the place, and the affable, careful service.
We had an early reservation (5:15) and the restaurant was empty when we arrived. It started to fill up a little more as we went through our meal. We opted for the 4-course prix fixe menu and enjoyed everything! Notably, the scallops, risotto, and burrata were delicious. Our server was friendly and helpful.
One of the best restaurants in Somerville. We had the tasting course with wine parings.
What a superb dining experience ! Servers were friendly and knowledgeable. Food was outstanding! Some dishes were exploding with different flavors. Ingredients were very fresh, and each dish was beautifully presented. The overall experience was simply sublime. It was among the best dining experience we have ever had. Will be returning in the fall. Thank you!
This little gem is well worth a visit. Our party of 8 decided to enjoy the chef's tasting menu. The chef did a wonderful job accommodating our various food restrictions (2 pescatarians) and 1 no shellfish.....(I think). Each course was delicious and accompanied by a wine pairing. This is a special place to dine. Take your time...take friends and enjoy. The crudo, seabass and shishto peppers stand out. All delicious....foodies do not miss.
Another wonderful meal, everything was delicious and service very attentive.
Me and my girlfriend did the tasting menu... Chef Bryan was exceptional, our waiter was exceptional. The food was exceptional, the wine was exceptional. I have been to 60-70 restaurants in Boston and this was top 3 for food, number one for service.
Excellent food and wine! Chef Brian is is doing magic in the kitchen! The wine pairing is an experience worth the trip!
Love the chef tasting menu. It's definitely a bargain for the quality of food we received. Each dish was beautifully presented and well explained. Pretty much love all the dishes we tried that night, including the foie gras ice cream sandwich, which was one of the kind.
Overall a very nice dining experience. My friend and I had a 7 pm reservation on a Wednesday night, so the place was not busy. All of our dishes were well prepared. We shared the Cesar salad & the gemelli. The duck was amazing served w a crispy risotto & chanterelles. The striped bass was perfectly seared in a brodo. No room for dessert. Can’t wait to go back! It’s pricey but worth it.
This was our first time trying Fat Hen. Our server Jaimie was great. We decided to go with the Chef Whim tasting menu along with the pairing of wine. Wow! The stand out for us was the Foie Gras ice cream sandwich it was truly AMAZING! Jamie was great at explaining the wine and why it was paired with each dish, Chef delivered each dish with an explanation of all that went into preparing the dish. We can’t wait to return. It’s definitely worth trying out.
The experience and meal was outstanding.Jake and the Fat Hen team were engaging and the food was amazing in both taste and presentation.
The four-course fixed-price Deal is wonderful, and at a reasonable price! If you choose it, the wine pairings are also excellent. Price-wise, the wine pairings are a good deal (a) for the area and (b) if you’re willing to commit to 3-4 glasses of wine. But we found the pairings delightful!
We went out for a relatively pricey (and somewhat celebratory) date. We can’t speak for a more budget-conscious experience.
Absolutely amazing. Best gnocchi I’ve ever had! A very cute neighborhood restaurant with thoughtful, modern Italian dishes. Will definitely be back.
We had a very special night at Fat Hen for my wife’s 30th birthday. All 4 courses were delicious and the wines were paired perfectly. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and made the experience even better. Will be going back for other special occasions in the future.
A delightful dinner, each dish we chose was perfect, delicate flavors, combination of textures, beautiful presentation and service was impeccable.
Superlative food ... and especially superlative service by Robin. I teased her she was so good, I thought she was Italian. I have many, many allergies. She guided through my entire dining experience. She sincerely wanted me to have the best meal I possibly could have. Thank you Tosca, for having such an outstanding server.
Loved the food. My husband had duck with cherries which was excellent--not very sweet. I didn't get it because I'm not fond of sweet entrees, but I tasted his and it was excellent. Our friend and I had the striped bass which was nicely cooked--very crispy skin and moist meat. The chocolate dessert was also very good. By our standards, the place was expensive but it was a special occasion so we splurged.
Excellent food, quite delicious. I would have expected some vegetarian options on the a la carte menu. However, at least two pasta entrees were modified to make them vegetarian--and they were delicious.
