We had a lovely time! The service was very good, atmosphere was fun and unique, and the food was great!
The only thing that I was disappointed with was where we sat. It was too close to the main front door entrance, so it made it a little chilly for me, and as a designer I would arrange the seating differently.

It is a high end beautiful place. Good for special occasions. The ambience is beautiful.
The property and building are both beautiful. We ordered the deviled eggs (which were good) and the beef tartare to start. Both were spicy, but the tartar was so hot you could not even taste the beef. We were very disappointed. Ordered the boulevardier and Paloma cocktails and both were good. Our meals came and both the potato gnocchi and petrale sole were greatly under seasoned. We kept applying salt, but after the (overly) spicy appetizers we were just done. My husband described it perfectly as “muddy and bland”. We will not be returning for dinner. So many great places to eat in St. Helena, but this was not it.
The outdoor bar is beautiful and I would go back again to enjoy a cocktail outside, but dinner? Never again.
I’m sorry to say but a little off the mark. It started with being sat at one of the communal tables. I’ve eaten here at least 4-5 times and didn’t even know they existed. Sorry not a fan on a date night. As for the food. My date ordered the signature ribs and they were dry and not like two times prior. We did bring it to their attention and they were comped and a dessert was free as well. Big steps taken for a return visit. I do like the corkage policy(whatever you decide to pay goes to a local group or organization) DC
Very good food, and a an informed service group. We sat on the terrace and had a wonderful lunch.

Outdoor wine/bar service was great. The check-in desk staff (2 persons) forgot about us and left us sitting outside for half hour. We finally were seated when we went in to make sure they knew we were there. The wine steward was friendly and we enjoyed the wine immensely. However, the rest of the evening was unfortunately disappointing. Our waiter was difficult to communicate with and spoke from an index card. He forgot our appetizer, which was pretty basic because we didn't order anything out of the ordinary. A server brought our entrees to the table, and we informed her that we had ordered an appetizer that we didn't receive yet. She left the entrees on the table anyway, and we didn't see her again. The waiter apologized -- but no one attempted to ask whether we wanted to wait for the appetizer, they just left us no option. It appeared that the crowd was minimal and not overwhelming, so we weren't sure what the problem was. They served us a complimentary dessert, portions of which were inedible -- an angels food / devil's food dish that tasted like it had been made and frozen days before in the event they had to offer it at no charge. Glad we did not have to pay for it. Unfortunately, it felt like we were cast-offs; everyone else seemed to be enjoying the restaurant that night.
We have been here before and had a great experience, but it will not be our first choice again. Maybe it would be better with a group or just to have a quick drink at the outside bar. The interior staff seemed detached and unconcerned that night, and we might have been better off staying at home.
Normally a restaurant heavy on fresh air dining, our visit was on a crisp 45 degree winter night— indoors. Service was great, however, we were a few minutes early so the wait in the bar was uncomfortable. No place to sit and the lone bartender was no match for the crowd. There should have been 2-3 instead.
Food was very good as always.

We met our son for dinner on a Tuesday night - I checked the Farmstead restaurant website/menu and thought the Fried Chicken dinner sounded good and seemed like it was a great value. We made reservations through Open Table and I thought it odd that a Tuesday night in St Helena would only offer dinner seatings after 8:30 - everything else was sold out.
I called during the day to see if there was an earlier opening and was told to come at 8 pm. We arrived a few minutes early and there was no hostess to greet us - just another guest who said he had been waiting since 7:30 (his actual reservation time) and was a bit peeved that the hostess seemed to have forgotten about him. We were directed to wait outside by the bar. At 8:20, I went to see when our table would be ready and ran into the previous guest with the 7:30 reservation who was still not seated!
Finally, seated at 8:30 but waited for 7 minutes for the waiter to approach us and then another 5 minutes for a glass of water. Selected our food, which arrived quickly and was overall pretty good. Time for dessert after the long wait - and they were out of beignets! Turns out that the restaurant had a festive evening planned, with special menu for Fat Tuesday, which was why it was so crowded. However, the info on that was not on the restaurant tab on the website, but under a tab labeled Events. Would never have checked that tab and would not have chosen the restaurant had we known that it was a special menu and event.
In defense of the wait staff, they seemed very tired and I am sure they worked their butts off for the event. But for those of us dining at the tail end of the evening, the service was not what would be considered satisfactory. My husband did run into our waiter, who was cleaning the Men's Room. Hubby was wishing we had left him a larger tip, as he was consciencous!
Let me start out by saying I am one your biggest fans, like I salivate just mentioning Farmstead. We came in on Tuesday for our 5th time coming up for Fat Tuesday. Unfortunately we were given the absolute worst table in the restaurant, situated next to the band with both speakers directed at our heads. We were unable to talk with our friends due to the volume and close proximity of the table to the band and all ended up with horrible headaches. Mind you we made this reservation weeks in advance yet when I went to the hostess to ask for a different table I was told it would at least 20 mins before they could move us ;( at this point we had already been seated almost 20 mins after our reservation time. We asked to informed as soon as we could be moved because it was unbearable, lots of apologies but never got moved. At one point it was eluded to the next round of drinks would be taken care but yet we were charged for them. We even asked to speak to the manager yet never saw one. As locals who love and support your restaurant this was an epic let down.
Friendly advice, the metal 4 top round should not be seated when you have live entertainment.
We loved our lunch: crudite, the best cole slaw, meatballs, beignets. Great service. Fun ambiance.

Wow! My Boss recommended Farmstead to me last weekend for my birthday and it did not disappoint. Loved the food, setting, cocktails....everything!! We will definitely come back when we are in the area again. Can't stop thinking about my Butternut Squash Arborio Rice...heavenly!!
The servers were excellent! The ambiance was open air, country barn feel. Food was good. I would definitely eat here again.
Tuesday night fried chicken for everyone at the table, excellent
