Farmhouse - Evanston
The menu ingredients are harvested from local farmers and change with the Midwestern seasons. Farmhouse offers locally sourced, pastured raised burgers, steaks, and poultry and makes almost everything from scratch on premise. We are a green tavern. 85% of the building materials, furniture and fixtures were salvaged from old barns in Southwestern Wisconsin and an abandoned factory on Chicago's South Side.

My meal left much to be desired...it was the duck stroganoff ...over smothered in pasta with a fairly small portion of duck. Other of our guests had ordered one veggie and one hamburger and both came with “cold” fries. Our server worked hard to make up for it and he was really good in attitude and effort.
Terrible food, Terrible service.
They were pretty chaotic and understaffed for Thanksgiving. Had to wait 45 minutes even with a reservation. Once we were seated, we didn't get much attention from the servers. However the food was very good and plentiful. Also sad that by the time we finished eating, almost no desert left and they said that they had closed the buffet. This seemed unfair because of the 45 minute wait.
Had a reservation at 5:45pm. They even called a week ahead to make sure we were there at 5:45. Then we had to wait a half hour to get seated. Waitress took forever to come to our table, then was irritated when we asked if we could order drinks. For the cost of the buffet the choices were limited. Desserts were horrible. Would not recommend at all!
We have eaten here, just two, in the past and it has been wonderful. Regrettably they have much to learn about Thanksgiving buffets. Overdone food, long waits and terrible service. Expect more for $500+
Thanksgiving buffet dinner was overbooked. We were seated 35 minlutes after our 5:00 p.m. reservation which we'd made two weeks before. They attempted to seat our party of 3 at a table for 2, which was a small space even for two. We asked for another table, which took awhile to get, but the manager was responsive and, ultimately, gave us a table for 3. The prime rib was so tough I could hardly get a steak knife through it. The turkey, only white meat, was dry. There was no actual turkey carved at the buffet. The restaurant ran out of pumpkin pie by 4:30 p.m. It was a nice looking space, but that was really the best aspect of the experience.
Thanksgiving dinner was great other than the under cooked green beans! The pork stuffing was the bomb! Also, the service was slow and we had to find places to put our plates. The roast beef, turkey, ham, and salmon were great! The horseradish sauce needed to be hotter it was bland! Spent $300.00 for 4 of us but I would go back!
The staff, dealing with hectic Thanksgiving, were outstanding. Courteous and efficient. Buffet was mostly very good but we missed dark turkey meat and a traditional bread dressing. Gravy was used to smother the not-very-good dressing. Rustic ambiance was perfect.
The Thanksgiving buffet was a delightful surprise as was our wine choices! Thank you!
I had a really great experience. It was the Thanksgiving buffet and everything was tasty and well prepared. They have a bit to learn as far as accommodating the wheelchair bound but given that the buffet service was unusual and the place was crowded, they managed to pull it off. I've eaten at their other locations and the food is always nice.
Phenomenal food- great environment
Very pleased with the fare
Will certainly be returning.
We eat here frequently. We love the food. Just ask for a table away from the windows. It can be so cold in the winter.
We eat there frequently because the location is convenient. We find the menu has something for everyone. We love the selection of beers. Good cocktails. We love it. Did I mention the cheese curds and pretzels? They make our tummies happy.
Met with family for a birthday. Drove 30 miles to come here because it’s got high ratings. There were 6 of us. We had drinks, appetizers, main course and desserts. The food and service were fair to average nothing special. We were there about 1 hour 40 minutes and about to get ready to get ready to leave when a manager came to our table and was very awkward and embarrassed to ask us to leave because they needed to turn over our table and had people waiting! We eat out frequently like most people do now days and this has never happened to us before! It was shocking. We were there for a standard amount of time. Very strange and even the manager must have known because he was so uncomfortable asking us. We definitely won’t go back and honestly it wasn’t anything special anyway.
We were seated promptly at a table we loved. Taylor, our server, was amazing! She made our evening there fantastic. The food was fabulous. We cleaned our plates! Wine tip: red wine should be served at cellar temperature. It was served too warm. But, Taylor resolved the issue. No complaint about anything. Thank you everyone!
Excellent food and great service. The dessert donuts are unreal!
Celebrated my mom's bday on a Thursday morning so it was pretty empty which was perfect! Cute EV restaurant. More room upstairs too.
I think I noted in Open Table that it was my mom's bday so the waiter greeted her which was very nice!
The waiter asked me if I was a Hilton rewards member. I wasn't sure so I looked for my reward number and waited til the server came back. I found it but when I gave it to him he said "oh we have to fill out a form at the front desk or something." So in my head I said "why did you ask for it then?"
Food: My mom's steak and eggs was delicious. I ordered an omelette - when you add 1 ingredient you have to pay 0.50 cents each. You would think a classic omelette would have the basics but this order would just be eggs and maybe cheese I think. I added 3 more more ingredients but c'mon an omelette should have your basic eggs, cheese, onions, mushroom, tomatoes, etc). I'm never ordering an omelette from this place. My husband said now this is just greed! LOL!
Our server was awesome but he went missing for awhile. The restaurant was pretty much empty - not sure why! I felt bad asking another server to step in. Our server came back almost at the end (after we asked for everything else with the other server).
The restaurant gave my mom a free ice cream dessert for her bday. Of course, this was a bonus we liked.
My rating is just "GOOD." Wish it could be better. I really wanted to like Farmhouse.
Until the bill cane we were not notified that the additions to our salad would be charge with add ons. The bill did not reflect the charges only the total did. The manager never came over to the table after we spoke the the server about this matter twice. Called and spoke to the manager after this visit and he stated that was told about the matter after we left and he can not do anything for us after the fact. Terrible customer service- management doesn’t care about their patrons.
I apologize again for the lack of direct communication regarding your bill. Our system is set up to provide several small additions to a meal, not to create completely customized dishes. We have now adjusted our printed receipts so that all charges are reflected on a check as individual items, not included in the total price of their parent item. In good faith, I offered for you to visit us again and ask for me directly so that I can take care of your next meal, which you declined.
Brunch with my daughter during parents weekend brought us back to the Farmhouse. We really enjoyed the food on our last visit. This time one item was amazing and one lacking ? The house pretzel was delicious and the cheese dip would make a paint chip yummy. The butternut squash burrata toast was cold. The bread was hard like a brick and poached egg was unseasoned and bland. Was this how this was intended to be served ? It was a disappointment for us.
Very good experience overall. Food was great--all farm to table. Great cocktails. Definitely would return.
This has become a favorite every visit to Evanston.
The food was good; the wine expensive. Parking meters go to 9 so had to leave and re-feed meter.
I can be discerning when it comes to food, drink, ambiance, and service. And although I rate this place highly, I don't think much of it. It's pretty much what one might expect of a farm to table restaurant in a city suburb -- Not nearly as good as it aspires to be, and lacking in almost every category, but otherwise fine, especially given the other options. If you're meeting friends or business associates for a bite, you could do worse.
Solid food hearty food. Love the thickness of the bread for breakfast sandwich. Bacon and ham with egg on top is scrumptious. Eggs Benedict perfect and best potatoes anywhere. Service is wonderful. It was a very busy morning but I'm happy we weren't rushed. Really a great place to fine anytime of day
When I made my reservation, I asked for a standard table and we were seated at a high top. Its not a huge deal, but I do wonder why the restaurant asks people their preference if that preference is then ignored. I much prefer a standard table. I find high top table chairs incredibly uncomfortable to sit in, but we did not have time to wait for a standard table to become available.
Food was great, service fabulous but VERY pricey....dinner for for was $350. One appetizer to share, no dessert.
The food was great as always. The host was anxious and curt. We had made a reservation at 5pm but the table wasn’t ready and then wasn’t good so we asked to move. Our server was fantastic. The room was way too hot.
The food is great and service is friendly and easy timely. And, they have Hamm's the beer refreshing.
The quality of service in the Chicago location has always matched the outstanding food. The service in Evanston really ruined an otherwise great meal (incompetent and snarky).
Different limited menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is all locally sourced and extremely well prepared. The fried cheese curds by themselves are worth the trip.
Food was average and service left me quite disappointed. Went with my brother. We split and appetizer each had a soup and split and entree. I was disappointed when the soups and entree arrived at the same time. So by the time we ate our pork chop it was pretty cold. It was over cooked too. Soup was really bland. Oh well maybe they had a bad night.
Four of us dined and we all enjoyed our entrees, beverages and especially dessert. The waiter was
attentive but not intrusive. We had a really nice evening out with good friends, good food, good service. We'll be back.
Wow! Food was fantastic. Perfect spot for pregame meal to Northwestern football game. Free university parking nearby and game shuttle one block a way .
Really enjoyed the food and service. Was looking for a good down home meal in chicago. Farmhouse hit the spot. Great soups, grilled cheese and desserts. Appetizer of cauliflower was not so enjoyed, yet that may be to personal taste.
Recommend you go and enjoy
Taylor took care of us and she is awesome, so friendly, helpful and on top of things. We appreciated being seated in a smaller more private room which was much quieter.
It was very busy when we were there with a wedding party from the hotel its attached to. We were never offered drinks. Appetizers came out in literally 5 minutes which left a very long delay between apps and main. Not the end of the world, but they could time better. Our waiter who greeted us disappeared and then we had a waitress show up with no explanation. Had to ask for silverware, plates, water refills... You get the idea. Again, not the end of the world, but a little communication would have been nice. Food was good but way overpriced in my opinion. $17 for a chicken sandwich is excessive. I wouldn't go back only because there are so many other places to try and this wasn't memorable.
Interesting asthetic. Salad was bland in tasteless
Fries and cheese curds were good
Service was good but it was not busy
Not work $60 for three people
We had a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup. My spouse had the fried cod and French fries. The food was good. It is a medium restaurant located in the Hilton Hotel across from the Northwestern campus dorms. It has bare brick walls and wooden tables.
Over cooked and poor quality. Server was very gracious. Get a new meat supplies.
