Farmhouse is a Midwestern Craft Tavern focused on delivering warm hospitality, great beer and wonderful food in a comfortable neighborhood setting in the heart of Evanston. Focused on the Midwest, Farmhouse offers 36 beers on draft from Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan. We feature local artisanal liquors and wine, as well.

The menu ingredients are harvested from local farmers and change with the Midwestern seasons. Farmhouse offers locally sourced, pastured raised burgers, steaks, and poultry and makes almost everything from scratch on premise. We are a green tavern. 85% of the building materials, furniture and fixtures were salvaged from old barns in Southwestern Wisconsin and an abandoned factory on Chicago's South Side.

Disappointed in the brunch . A few years back went to Mothers Day Brunch and loved it-
NO bread... Very skimpy deserts... Salads just ok.

I love farm to table restaurants and this was a great experience. The food was amazing and my only criticism would be that my entree was a bit too busy. The flat iron steak was incredible which is what I had. My guests dinners were equally amazing, but like my entree a bit busy. I like a combination of flavors, but not so much that I cannot discern them. I will eat there the next time I am at Northwestern.

All was great except for the air conditioning (on a snowy day) was blowing right on me. Server was polite and apologetic but it did take away from my dining experience.

The food was quite good. I ordered the trout, which was delicious, but it did not have the accompaniments as described. It was supposed to come with sweet potatoes, but it came with parsnips and forbidden rice.

A restaurant that boasts that they are farm to table that serves a flat iron steak so tough you had to saw through it and couldn’t be chewed is a disgrace. It was my daughter’s 21st birthday which they did not even acknowledge even though it was in our reservation. And her pork chops were so bad she ate less than half. My flat iron steak was replaced - after the other 5 people in our party had finished dinner. We won’t be going back!

A bit pricey but the food was good. Had a midwestern mixed salad which was quite lovely & good, a bit on the smaller side considering price, altho it was not typical Resturant small. But I could not make a meal out of it. I did order a chicken breast to add to the salad, which was rather dry.
It did get too loud for any real conversations as our evening progressed, perhaps lunch time would have been a better choice. Our server was very good. but it seemed like the drinks from the bar took some time, perhaps more bartenders needed on a Sat. evening?
The only real issue I have is the location of the bathrooms-on the 2nd fl, up a long flight up stairs. What do the physically challenged do? I saw no elevator or signs.

Flatbread with squash, cheese, something else all drizzled with a sweet sauce had a thick texture and lack crispness I expect with a flatbread.

The mixed salad greens with nuts, dried fruit was with tiny slivers of dried apricot only. Not interesting enuf to order again.

Our second visit.

Great service. Seated upon arrival. The ambiance was great. Noice level was great you are able to conversate with someone across from you. Very clean tables and bathrooms. Food was good and where able to accommodate to my expectation on Mac and cheese with steak as an main dish. Will definitely return.

It’s was just fine. Nothing special. Undersized brunch menu. Everything was good but nothing was so good you would need to go back there to eat it again. Bloody Mary was very good. Coffee was not good. Ultimately spent $80 for 2 alcoholic drinks, 2 brunch items and a coffee.

Hate to share this, but are compelled to submit this review.

The 4.4 rating doesn't jibe with the reviews!!! Note - there are LOTS of 1-stars - sort by lowest-rated & you'll see. Believe them.

Loved our waiter Jeremy, loved the beer, bread & pretzel. Everything else was bland and overpriced!

Two of us had the chicken (one of their specialties) - at best, it was bland, skin wasn't crispy as advertised, and didn't look at all appealing.

Two of us got hamburgers - again, very bland. We ordered the salad (holding the bacon), and guess what - bland again! (we liked the watermelon radishes though).

Even the carrots were served in a way that looked like they were overcooked by some cub scouts on their first campout.

4 entrees, 1 cocktail, 3 beers & a glass of wine totaled $250!!!!!

We were embarrassed to have selected this restaurant - hope our friends will give us another chance in the future - but it won't be at Farmhouse.

Overall, we like the food at Farmhouse. However, the place was packed on Saturday night and the overall ambience was overwhelmed with LOUD. Even after moving away from some screaming children — and many thanks to the manager for making that move possible (only after we noticed two table for two being cleared) — we were barely able to conduct a conversation across the table.

This problem could have been reduced if the manager had opened the second floor for service. However, a more simple solution might have been to turn down the background music. The banal music was mostly just a rhythm, and the louder the mindless drum beat, the louder the patrons got in trying to communicate with each other. When the beat lessened, so did the volume of the diners.

We went home feeling sated with good food, but empty of meaningful conversations with our guests

Sat in a small room off to the side which was great but there was another party in the room who was very loud and we could barely hold a conversation at our table of 6. We had pierogis and cheese curd appetizers and they were delicious, cheese curds are very greasy. These are not low calorie choices. My husband had the pork chop, it was huge and unfortunately extremely extremely fatty. He carved out a ton of fat but every bite still had a lot of fat. My son also had the pork chop and his was better. We should’ve sent it back but he cut away at it hoping it would get better but it just got worse. Overall, it was not a great experience. I probably wouldn’t go back and I probably wouldn’t recommend it. It was pricey and would’ve expected better.

I've been to Farmhouse a couple of times now. Food is always so fresh and delicious - full of flavor. I appreciate their unique spin on some common menu items. Service is also usually pretty good. It's not the best but it's not bad. Servers just need to make sure they are paying close attention to their tables.

Had a yummy lunch with a business colleague there this week. Always good food and service. I'm not a fan of sitting at high top tables, so be sure to specify what type of table you prefer -- they are great about honoring your preference when they can.

I expected it to be pricy in downtown Evanston in a hotel but we ordered a large salad for $16.50 and it was a joke. I can go to most other places and get a better salad for under $10. The menu is very limited and nothing special on it. I ordered what the waiter said they were famous for (mac and cheese) and it was OK but not worth going back for and definitely not worth the $25 price tag

Great brunch spot ! Fresh local food- my husband had the farmers breakfast and I had the veggie hash. Great presentation and flavors. The service by Heather was wonderful! The noise level was a bit high only due to a family at the next table with 3 screaming toddlers :) we will be back!
