Farmer's Table - Little Italy

Took a half hour to get out bottle of wine, and the entree took a long time too.
My husband and I had a wonderful meal there two weekends ago, so we took my parents there this past Sunday, when they were in town visiting. Sat outside both times facing the plaza, which was wonderful and what I requested on our open table reservation. The food was delicious (i’m in love with the oxtail ravioli!) but unfortunately, our server, Filippo, Was not at the top of his game. He said he was bringing bread out of the oven, but we sat there and waited for it for quite some time and instead they came to the table to take our order and we had to ask for the bread. He himself said it was not busy (and our reservation was at 5:30; early dinner), so not sure what the distraction was..He was very enthusiastic with the “buena sera” and full of character and all, but failed to make eye contact and stick around long enough to listen for all people at the table to respond with any requests or questions. Seem like he was just dialing it in..
Being seated at the table next to the double-doors that every server kicked open aggressively as they went in and out of the kitchen was not a great start. Our server was nice enough and fairly attentive, but he, like every other server, was running around like a chicken with their head cut off. They were busy but we should never feel like the server is in such a rush that we are an after thought.
Food was just ok. We ordered the charcuterie board to start and literally 5 seconds after I watched him hit the “enter” button into their ordering system, the tray was delivered to our table. I appreciate fast but this dish was either sitting there pre-made or we got it by mistake. Definitely a head scratcher.
Cocktails were average. Not much more to say about that.
I might consider going back in off-peak hours to give them another shot but not really sure. Didn’t rev my engines.
Was ok expected more Italian dishes being in the “little Italy” section of town
Consistently bad service. Not knowledgeable, not accommodating, slightly rude.
Farmer's Table is a great restaurant, but there are a lot of 'great' restaurants in Little Italy. I've been here 4x and each time it felt like service was lacking. 1- In every case except when I was at the bar I waited over 10 minutes for a server to greet me. The food came before the drinks 2x. And lastly, in each case the staff feels rushed and disinterested. If the service improved it would be on a whole other level.
Stuffed French toast was amazing! And the Bloody Marys...
We enjoyed sitting outside. Our server was awesome and let us enjoy the evening. I ordered the shrimp risotto special and found that there was more of “other seafood” and two pieces of shrimp. I was disappointed I would have called the fish seafood risotto.
Would love to give this restaurant a higher recommendation.. was just ‘ok’ Server was just ‘ok’ barely spoke to us. Food was mediocre. 😐 We don’t go out and spend very often and I’m often reminded why. Most places in Gaslamp or Little Italy have become so high tourist/high traffic they just do ‘what’s necessary’ it’s a shame. The atmosphere around the restaurant was great! Next time we will go to the food Hall which we discovered after the fact.
Food was excellent as was the atmosphere! It was a bit noisy due to the background music but otherwise very pleasant.
The food is good, the service was fair, they actually gave me the wrong order but that’s ok.
The noise however, was basically unbearable.
Would not go back because of that reason but would recommend it because of the food.
I wasn't a big fan of this restaurant. I thought the food was just ok. For what it costs I think there are much better restaruants out there. They were also out of several of desserts when we went.
The service was awful. Food was ok but my meal wasn’t right. When i told the server she told me that her manager said i got the right bacon, but i clearly didn’t since i ordered the man candy bacon and mine was regular. All around i wouldn’t go back or recommend.
I’ve eaten here many times as I’m a local in Little Italy and by far this was the worst meal I’ve had in all of Little Italy not just farmers table.
Meal started promising (great appetizers) but the entrees were bland (after having my fish sent back for being undercooked) and we felt like we were an afterthought for our server.
We went during Restaurant Week. Our server was excellent even though there was a lot of wrong to the visit. Our Son ordered the pork chop dinner that was not part of the special menu. The mashed potatoes came out cold. Asked for a separate mashed potato that came out perfect. Food in our other dishes were OK but not a whole lot of flavor. The hot lava cake was not so hot. It was under a scoop of ice cream but the cake was hard as a rock and cold. Server apologized often and was great but the overall experience will keep us from dining there again. It was a bummer because we wanted to like the restaurant. Maybe the Sister restaurant in La Mesa will do better.
The food is great, however we felt the service wasn’t the best of could be. They stuck us in a table in the back that was chilly because it was right by the door, so we politely asked them to switch. They were very delayed in addressing the issue and wanted us to get up and wait again even though we were on time for our reservation. The lead manager was also rude to us about it and was like ‘are you staying or moving’. The food was good and the service improved once we had our server, but the beginning wasn’t the best. Also they didn’t bring us our appetizer and seemed annoyed that we weren’t ordering much. I’d go back because it’s a cool/trendy spot but wasn’t impressed at the service, though it was a busy Friday night.
After checking in with the hostess, we waited about five minutes before we were taken to our table. We walked in the middle of the main room where there seemed to be a problem with our table. We told the hostess that we would wait until the table is cleared if that’s the issue, and she looked at us,l and rather sternly said, “That’s not the issue.” Then after a bit of confusion among the hostesses, we were escorted from the main room to the the back wine room where we were seated in the corner. When I asked if we could possibly get another table, the hostess said flat out, “No,” which my party found to be pretty rude and inflexible. So we took our seats anyway. Our server was really pleasant and seemed to know the menu well. I ordered the mushroom and olive chutney, which came in a cute little mason jar glass, but they served it with only three small pieces of crostini, one of which was severely burnt. My friend had the burnt carrot salad; she told us that there was absolutely no seasoning on them. She also had the grilled artichokes, which were very delicious. My husband ordered the local yellowtail, which was just barely seared, and the inside was ice cold, tough, stringy, and quite frankly, inedible. And to top it off, the sauce was extremely overpowering. I had the cavatelli, and the dish was pretty good apart from the fact that I had to add a decent amount of salt to it. My friend ordered the creme brûlée for dessert, and while the flavors were spot on, the sugar on top was mostly in its original form, so there wasn’t the hard crunchy outer layer that one usually expects from creme brûlée. The entire experience, from the confusion with our table and the rude hostess to the inedible tuna and lack of attention to detail in the rest of dishes really made for an experience that left us not wanting to return. And we had several friends recommend this restaurant for the outstanding food, so it’s unfortunate that we did not have the same experience.
The dinner experience at Farmers table was excellent. The food was very delicious, however the service could of been a bit better. They changed waiters on us without Advising us
Restaurant Week dinner. We got there early, 5 o'clock, and for seated right away. From the onset, service was slow, server didn't seem to know the happy hour times or menu. Good was really good, but we still hadn't gotten our main course at 6:20 and we had a 7 o'clock theater time. We had them box up the main and the dessert courses. Parking in Little Italy is always a chore. Yet, I'd go again because the food was good.
High level of cross contamination for people with Celiac.
Great food. Great service.
Portion were big Took while family.
I was very disappointed with the service, drinks took so long to get to us, the food was amazing like always, but the service was very bad, the server apologize for the delayed in the drinks , because the bartender was overload with drinks orders , but the restaurant was not busy at all, they were probably 5 tables only , at the restrooms they don’t have any paper towels to dry your hands, I have to go to the kitchen to get some.
It was a birthday lunch with 2 clients, and even when the ladies were wearing birthday girl tiaras, the server never say happy birthday to them, I was expecting that the restaurant knowing because I make a note in the reservation , that was a birthday lunch , brung any kind of cake or treat for their birthdays, and noting happened. Again the food was very good, but the service was very bad.
Visiting from Phoenix
Great location, and even better food and service! Will definitely go again.
Our server was very unattentive and the fish I ordered and the short ribs my wife ordered were quite dry. We ordered cocktails and they brought my wife the wrong one and weren't too interested in correcting the mistake or comp-ing the incorrect drink. Overall, it'll be a while until I go back.
We had a good time. Our server was helpful.
The appetizers and main courses were nice.
The deserts also were very satisfactory.
We love this place! Always feel at home here. Friendly staff and great food selection
Great food and service.
Very nice atmosphere! Outside seating is great for catching beautiful sunsets!
We really enjoyed our time here! Service was amazing & the food was fantastic!!
I didn't enjoy the atmosphere. It was very loud, and very challenging to have a conversation. The food was ok, but would not want to eat it again. The service was the best thing about the evening and I did tip well. We enjoyed a nice bottle of wine but thought the prices were also high. Overall, I wouldn't want to go back.
Food was good - nothing spectacular but decent and flavorful. Duck gnocchi was especially good. Service was rather rushed and not exactly friendly. Just matter of fact - eat, pay, get out.
Sit outside and enjoy the patio to watch the hustle and bustle of Little Italy
Great service and a good variety of food on the menu. Serice was great and our server was very personable. Over all i definitely will come back.
First time there. Was very nice. A little expensive but I will go back again
This was our anniversary dinner and a night away from the kids. I ordered the chicken special, which came out pink and a side of broccolini which was 6 broccoli florets. They didn’t with us a happy anniversary and our server seemed inconvenienced by our presence. Such a disappointment. I contacted the restaurant to let them know, via email, and never received a response
