We ate here before a show at the Guthrie and it wasn't bad, but it also wasn't really anything special. The food was bland and just kind of blah. Too many other choices in town. Don't think I'll be back.

The food was good, but the menu limited. No omelettes, scrambles or other such items; the egg dishes and bowls were eclectic. Service staff was very responsive; you do place your order yourself at the counter and they bring to table. Venue is very pretty and it is quiet so you can meet up with a friend and hear and enjoy your conversation with them.

It was a major improvement to be able to place our orders with a server instead of standing in a long line at the counter! And then the seasonal pasta dish was out-of-this-world delicious!!

A very friendly restaurant with health food, reasonable prices and a great location. We love coming here before a Guthrie show or when downtown. The servers are attentive and really seem to care about doing good work.

Very nice meal before the theater but would have liked more options on time as there were plenty of spaces later that would have allowed us to arrive closer to showtime...might be good to contact the restaurant directly as well should there not be the table you want online at a suitable time. We could have eaten a half an hour later easily had we called.

Convenient location for the Guthrie. Food was very good. Portions were appropriate size. Prices a little more than a value. 20% auto gratuity and then poor service leave a bad taste. Service members more interested in chatting by the counter, in the open, than attending to patrons is not a good idea.

Easy place to dine before the Guthrie. Service was good. Waiter seemed to actually want to know what we thought of the food. Great history of the MN Farmers’ Union and loved supporting these folks. Interesting choice of salads - unique, which I like. Tots were okay if your wanted mostly potato, little walleye as advertised My turkey sandwich was tasty; I’d order again. Ma’s roast beef sandwich was unremarkable. Roll was not a ciabatta - just a roll. Beef had little flavor, no au jus or horseradish sauce - disappointing. So - for good, convenient, but not outstanding food, Farmers Kitchen is a keeper.

Everything we tried here was so delicious, and incredibly reasonable given that most (all?) of the food is locally sourced! It's really cool to see a restaurant in downtown that showcases so many of the incredible farms and ranches that we have in our state. We had the walleye sandwhich and the beet salad -- both were plenty of food to be a full meal, and service was friendly and quick. 10/10, will return!

We had a reservation and the person who seated us was rude and abrupt, not at all welcoming or pleasant. Other staff engaged in long, personal conversations with each other in the middle of the dining area—while customers tried to have a meal with the staff looming and gabbing nearby.

Very well-prepared food with high quality ingredients. And very fast service for those going to the Guthrie. Small tables detract a little bit. Got soup and entree at the same time, not ideal but not a deal breaker either. We'll go again.

This is basically a self serve restaurant. We had reservations for brunch but had to go up to the counter to order; we waited in line there for about 25 minutes before we could even place our order. The food came out quickly, which was good but they seem to be understaffed... they even ran out if water at the self-serve water station (!). The prices seemed exceptionally expensive given the level of service provided and the automatic 20% additional service charge added onto the bill.

Our crowded bus arrived for a quick meal before the play. I had doubts that you could serve us all in time but these were quickly dispelled. Our food arrived promptly and was delicious. prices were reasonable and the staff were helpful and professional.

The menu has a limited number of entrees but several salads and some interesting appetizers. One of our party had the roast chicken which was very good - lots of colorful vegetables on the plate and a very generous portion. The other two diners had entree salads which they said were very good. Service was good overall; a bit of a delay in receiving a second glass of wine but otherwise attentive. As the restaurant filled up the noise level increased which detracted slightly from the pleasure of the experience. Prices for food and beverages are very reasonable.

It was crowded because we went when the farmers market was open in full swing on a Saturday over lunch. Two of us have Celiac and there are some identified Gluten Free options, but not many, and a small kids’ menu (two breakfast options with one GF). You grab a menu and sit, if you have reservations there should be a table set aside for you. Ordering is done up at the register after waiting in line. The line moved fairly well but was long on such a busy day with lots of grab-and-go traffic. The food came out fairly quickly and was enjoyable

We sat at our table for 20 minutes before alerting the host that no one had come to our table yet. We finally got some water and ordered. When food came, everything arrived except bruschetta which showed up about halfway through our meal. The host stopped by to see how things were and said he would be comping our appetizer. This did not happen. We had to ask for empty dishes to be cleared. A shame, really. Food was good.

Service was bad and they did not really seem to care. Took 40 minutes to get my initial drink order. Our food came before the initial drink order. 20% fee added when I received the bill. I very rarely leave less than 20% tip, but this service was terrible so I was going to go pretty light on the tip and then I was forced into 20% tip. Will not be returning. It was not our wait staff's fault-- she was doing the best she could. Seems like the bar staff did not care. Also, my food order did not come out as ordered, but they charged me for the substitution on my order. Wasn't worth the time to complain. I guess they have a built in customer base due to the theatre. Hey farmers-- you can do better.

Everything is really very nice and high quality at Farmers Kitchen + Bar. Staff are very friendly and cordial. I only rated the Service and Ambiance as Very Good, because we wish we could be seated at our table (this is for lunch only) and give our orders to wait staff instead of having to go up to the counter & stand in line (sometimes a very long one - which means business is good !) to place orders, which are then brought to our table. We make reservations, and a table is held for us - which is very nice - so this is not something that would keep us from returning. In fact, we have returned 3 times over the last couple of months. Rather, it is a "wish" only. We do understand that finding enough wait staff for the noon hour is a challenge.

We really were excited to support this concept and it's owners/operators. However, there was little to be content with on our visit. While not extremely busy and another waiter was able to manage her tables with ease a smile and lots of attention our waiter was dismal. We waited 10 minutes before being greeted, another 5 to take drink and appetizer orders. These were delivered haphazardly and without care. The poor service continued. I was quite surprised as I assumed he would want a good tip. Well, that had already been taken care or, they put a mandatory 20% on the entire bill, drinks and tax included! Moving on to the food, which was really why we chose this establishment. The walleye tots were all breading, couldn't even taste the fish. The walleye dinner was very bland, the wild rice soup was thin and cool in temperature. While not their issue one restroom was out of order, leaving one toilet available for all diners and coffee bar, leaving a line of 4 - 8 at any given time. The restroom was dirty, wet and low on TP. Such as shame as this could be a great place to make as our go to.

Food, ambiance, and service were all wonderful. Only issue was that they did not have our reservation when we arrived. Luckily there was room at a high top, so we were still able to eat. Made me question whether I had made it, but I see that I did. Please check communication system between OpenTable and Farmers Kitchen.

The food was very good and our server was excellent. The noise level was overboard! We could barely hear our server and we had to raise our voices in order to have a conversation with our dining companions. For this reason we will probably not return.

We sat outside on a lovely summer evening. The food and service were great. This was my first time at Farmers' Kitchen and I was pleasantly surprised. It's great to have another option in this neighborhood if you're going to the Guthrie. I'll be back.

I had a reservation but found when I arrived that I still had to wait in a long line to order my meal. My companion and I left to go to a neighboring restaurant where there was no wait. If they are going the fast casual route, then don’t offer reservations. That is misleading.

We are typically 20 tippers -- but that's when service is very good. This is an automatic 20% restaurant, which unfortunately meant subpar service was without consequences. Food was very good, but we had to ask for things several times to get it. And staff was standing around talking to one another -- not exceptionally busy to explain weak service.

Although our drinks were a bit pricey and the service was a little wonky as we came at the changeover from "order yourself" to waiter service, we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. The food is fabulous! The location for dining just before the Guthrie is perfect! We wanted a later reservation but were not able to get one so came at 4 before a 7pm play. MANY tables available all through the times we had hoped for. A bit disappointed by that. Weather was great so we walked the bridge. All good...but...

On our visit the food was good, the cocktails were average and the wait staff were wonderful. The place was doing a brisk business, especially since Guthrie has no food service at present. However... the mandatory 20% service charge (which should be costed into the per dish price just like the business' electric, gas, rent, etc.) is not going to your server or others as a tip. So, if you want to give your waiter a a nice tip, be prepared to have to spend considerably more than 20% on top of your food and beverage cost.
