Farmers & Distillers
There were parts of this meal that were excellent and parts that were not. We got the pork and beef dumplings for the starter. They had good flavor but came out flat with not much stuffing. It just looked odd and felt like we got the short end of the stick there because they could have been better. For the main, my friend got the steak frites. One piece came out correctly cooked, but the other did not. I got the fried chicken and donut with green beans and mac and cheese. The greenbeans were good but were inconsistently cooked. The mac and cheese was on the plate, yet the person at the table next to mine got theirs in a bowl. Mine was kind of dry and I think that I got the short end there too. The chicken, however, was fantastic. It was a great take on chicken and waffles to have it with a donut. I wish that they had some bottles of beer though other than the "local and craft" drafts only. Also, i was sitting at a booth next to the window that had a bad glare from the sun shining off the building across the street. The booth was also torn, and had a blanket over it, which was kind of strange. They should fix the booth. Overall though, I would recommend to a friend and will probably go back to try some other things on the menu.
This place is amazing! We were visiting DC and liked this restaurant enough to go back a second time. The food was delicious!!!
loved the atmosphere and so much good stuff on the menu---I got the spicy chicken sandwich and though good it was more bun than chicken
This establishment was phenomenal! Eclectic, if you will, with a theme of " what would George Washington eat?" Featuring Asian and southern comfort food. Fried chicken with a donut was the real hit of the evening!!!
Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu, favorites, seasonal specials and was just spectacular all-around!
Everyone was friendly, but despite having a reservation they were running 20 minutes behind. Our waiter too was friendly but it took awhile to place our order and for the food to arrive.
Very understaffed. The wait staff has no runners and have to keep checking the bar etc. get them some help. Waited for one hour after our order was submitted
Food was great however the wait time is long for food.
It was a very busy Sunday night and service was a bit slow...but we loved the atmosphere and the food! We were with kids who were tired so the 2 hour visit was a bit long.
Love this place. Can't ever go wrong with brunch here. Come hungry.
Poor service. Had to ask for our server a few times. Overpriced buffet. Could have had a better experience on a different day of the week when you can order off the menu. Had a birthday request and that was not honored.
Great brunch! I hope they can improve the flow of traffic at the various food stations. Jade was great — friendly, attentive.
Our groups was hard pressed to find anything we liked on the buffet. My husband liked the eggs bene and my son liked the devils food cupcake. Expensive brunch for two small items to be enjoyed:(
Farmers Distillers was amazing. Great food and service. Nice ambiance as well.
As always food was great. Our server was pretty inattentive. We asked to remove item we had not received, she got a little snappy. And she seemed a little put out when we asked questions.
Waitress was meh...no engaging. Food was okay restaurant was too loud.
Service was top shelf.
Food was good but not exceptional...perhaps we'll order something else next time. Drinks were very good but a little pricey I thought. Overall we had a good experience and we will be returning.
Amazing food. Amazing service. Amazing drinks. AMAZING!
The food was delicious, hot, and prepared with excellence. This coupled with quality service makes this a great dining choice!
Server was very polite, but forgetful. My date had to ask multiple times for a paper napkin to get rid of his gum. Appetizer (Chips and Dips) took about 15 minutes to come out. The Pimento cheese was amusingly the best part of the meal. My entree (Steak Frites) was not hot at all. Steak was overcooked and dry and had a very strange texture. I almost felt like I was eating a burger. I only ate one of the three steak medallions. I also had to ask for a steak knife as opposed to it being provided beforehand. Vegetables were greasy. The fries were tolerable. My date had the Drunken Beef and Chicken and also said that his was mediocre. We both ate very little of our entrees. Halfway through our entrees a different server approached me and asked me if I had ordered a side salad. Clearly , he was covering his bases and trying to do his job, but there were obviously some pretty severe communication issues going on. We both balked at the offer of dessert because the couple seated next to us received a sort of berry pie tart that was served to them in a sort of collapsed state. It was quite literally falling apart on the plate. I wouldn't have served a dessert that looked like that to someone in my own home, let alone serve something that looked like that in a restaurant. I had been to F&D once before for breakfast several months back and was also served food that wasn't hot. After giving them another chance for dinner, I will not be dining here again and I will advise friends who mention they're planning to dine here regardless if it's breakfast, lunch or dinner to pick a different restaurant.
DaniP, thank you for sharing your review with us. I am very sorry to read that your dinner visit was met with forgetful service, slow delivery on items and poor preparation of your meal. That said, I would love the opportunity to touch base further and will send you a PM. -Amy
Rudest server. Slamming glasses & plates. Impatient & rude each time he walked over like we were wasting his time. Food runner handed insanely hot plate without warning. No apology when my friend exclaimed. Food was good but it’s not the only spot in town so I’ll go elsewhere & not get a side of anger with my dinner next time
Oh gosh! JenC, a side of anger is definitely not on our menu and I am VERY sorry that this was what our team served. :( That said, I would love to touch base about your feedback and will send you a PM. -Amy
Great lunch, great staff.
My caution about this restaurant is to always ask to be seated in the main restaurant area, not the bar. The experiences are night and day.
The server was efficient but unfriendly.. Food quality was fine, but the meatball Parm was awful Even with the contemporary format.
Experience was really just ok. This is an organization that should understand the fine points and they seem to miss them. The hostesses (there must have been 4) were all disheveled and the seating process was cumbersome. The server took awhile to get our drinks and there was no check in after the food was served. The server seemed very new and not very well trained. The price point is way too high to go back at the quality level.
The name made me feel it would be a local restaurant with a more farm to table theme, but felt chain formulaic.
The Service and food were better than the ambiance portrayed.
We were there on business trip and it was fine for that purpose.
I had the foresight to make a reservation yet I had to check in 4 times at the hostess stand as I was watching walk-ins get seated before us. The service was slow, the bar was backed up and the server told us it was because they were handling the bar customers first. My Aunt and Uncle were visiting from California and I had been here for lunch previously and had a pleasant experience. Unfortunately, I will have to rethink this restaurant for out of town guests in the future.
I would highly recommend this restaurant to a friend as well as any of the others belonging to the ND Farmers' Union. I am a bit biased being from ND myself, but nonetheless, this was phenomenal. I was a bit disappointed when the server had no clue what the "ND" in the the "ND honey butter" meant as the NDFU is his employer, but he was knowledgeable about everything else.
The shrimp and grits, and lamb gyoza were outstanding! The fried green tomatoes were very good and the entree salad I had was unremarkable and overdressed. Our waitress was quite good, but spread too thin. Bottom line: a mixed bag.
Our servers Bryan and Joy were very attentive and provided great suggestions. The prime rib was very good and a large enough serving for sandwiches the next day. The hand churned ice cream--salted caramel is worth a trip back on its own
Excellent menu, something for every palette. Very nicely prepared and presented, lovely plates, a great array of colors, and very tasty. Superb lobster ravioli and excellent fried cod fish and chips. Heavy cheesecake, but very tasty. Superb strong coffees, macchiato, latte, and cappuccino. Service friendly and obliging if a bit overloaded and slow as the place filled up. Lots of noisy chatter. Glad we arrived early and had half an hour of relative quiet. Definitely recommend and will visit again
Always an awesome dining experience!
Eclectic menu with fun foods. Great atmosphere and a fabulous twist on dessert. I highly recommend the Don’t and ice cream combo. The waiter was knowledgeable and had great food and drink recommendations.
The scallop dish was delicious! The prices were surprisingly affordable by DC standards. The restaurant was busy, but the service was pretty lagging for a Monday night so am not too sure how the service would be on a busy weekend. Will definitely return though to try out more of the menu.
Thank you, Brunchfanatic for sharing your review with us. We really appreciate your kind words for our scallops and also love that you will return to try out more of our menu. That all said, I am so sorry that service was somewhat amiss this time and we will totally take what you shared into consideration for our next Monday night service. -Amy
I took my daughter, my niece and her husband and two friends to the restaurant. The service was horrible. Very slow. Requests for lemons, condiments, etc., had to be made multiple times. The worst though, a waiter dropped a container of ketchup on the floor that splashed up on me all over my shoes, pants and shirt. No apologies and no visit from a manager to apologize either. After dropping over $200 in there I will never go back nor recommend the restaurant to anyone. Many other better options in D.C.
Love the impossible burger and the bar staff is wonderful!
Thanks Dawn! We appreciate it and hope to have you back for another visit soon. :) -Amy
I would recommend this restaurant to a friend; only during non-peak hours. Our experience wasn't very seamless, but our server was excellent, and definitely redeemed our visit.
There is a reason I keep coming back here over and over again. Every aspect of this place is great. The staff, the food, the service and the experience is A+ in my book. I took my mother for her birthday and she absolutely love the restaurant. She was super happy with everything. Thank you for making first experience so great. I will always come and back and now she will too.
If you want an expensive, stressful brunch experience... this is the place for you! I booked this restaurant for a birthday brunch for my 24-year old daughter and a few friends expecting to be served a hot meal. I was not aware I couldn't order from a menu! It was a scrum at all the buffet tables. New dishes would be put out and quickly gone. We asked for pancakes upon arrival and had to wait and then ask again. Instead of the relaxing, fun brunch I imagined it was a series of people getting up to get more food and trying to find the waitress. And no, the table wasn't ready when we arrived. Admittedly, the food was decent. But I would not want to repeat the experience.
Service was v poor! Server failed to inform us of availability of cocktails. We had to specifically ask for items that were advertised as part of the Sunday buffet menu but server did not clue us in. The buffet items were empty and not refilled quickly. Part of our table side order was so late that it was finally brought out as we were paying the bill! The drink order was wrong and then the server said he wouldn’t “charge us” for the drink we didn’t order as if he was doing us a favor.
Disappointing; since the rest of the Farmers restaurants are all so good.
Thank you for sharing your review with us. I am very sorry to read that the service was considered poor during your brunch experience and also feel badly for the mishaps with your drink order. :( Of course, our team would love to have you back for another try and I will send you a PM to connect. -Amy
Unfortunately our waiter didn’t explain the process of the food we did the Sunday brunch and you could order food from him included in the brunch and by the time we figured it all out it was annoying so we just left.. there were more options to choose from when you ordered from the waiter be sure to ask
Thank you, JoleneR for sharing your review with us. I am very sorry for the miscommunication with the Market Buffet Brunch offerings and feel sad that you left annoyed with your experience. That said, we do hope to have you back for another try and I will send you a DM to keep in touch. -Amy
We visited while in town on vacation and had such a good experience we came back the very next night. Food is amazing. My entire family loved every single thing they got (ages 12, 17 and 2 adults). Service is extraordinary. The manager recognized us the second night and saw we had returned, and he sent over a special treat to thank us.
You don't often find homemade food this good in combination with excellent service. Farmers & Distillers cannot be recommended highly enough.
