Farmers & Distillers
I came specifically for Restaurant Week. I chose F&D because approximately 70% of the items on the menu were available for RW which was awesome! Brian was our waiter - I think he was new, but he was GREAT! Very attentive and nice. I know in time he'll be even better waiter. I'll be sure to ask if he's working when I return. Which I'm sure I will because this is one of my favorite restaurants in DC next to FFB. Also - loved the chocolate coconut cake! I made room for it and I'm glad I did.
I was definitely looking fwd to eating here but I felt the restaurant was a little unorganized and was lacking. The prices were a bit high. The food was good but not great. My eggs benedict were delicious and also the homemade donuts but our group of 9 weren't over excited about their dishes. The server was very kind & friendly but we waited for long periods of time overall for everything. The ambience was ok. We are from the NYC area and have high expectations comparing to similar restaurants in our city
The vibe was great. The food was just ok for the price.
went for restaurant week summer 2019 and ordered the salmon. it was pretty good.
Took my parents and oldest to lunch for restaurant week as this is a favorite of mine. While I usually love their food and service, it may have been due to the restaurant week crowd but it just wasn’t up to it’s normal standards. Food was meh, service was slow. Not counting it out tho...
I was on a time crunch so needed everything at a decent time but service was a little slow unfortunately. I ended up having to box everything :(
Food overall was good. The portion was small and no kids menu. The soda was not what we expected.
Ate the corn bread and riblets as an appetizer and that could have pretty much been the meal for me. Both were really amazing.
Dinner was the salmon which was cooked perfectly, the mashed potatoes and sucatash was excellent and tasted fresh.
Dessert was vanilla bean cheesecake with creme brulee topping and it was real cheesecake and it is huge. So much food and was full early n often.
I can't really review the food because it never showed up - we alerted them to the fact that we were on a bit of a tighter timeline - 35 minutes later, still no food - then 45 and we couldn't then enjoy the food even if it did show up - so had to bail out on this. Restaurant seems nice - food is.. who knows, never got any.
Went for restaurant week. Excellent menu choices as part of restaurant week promo. Food quality was great. Service was subpar. Took two hours for just a table of two to get our three courses. And our server never came back to ask if we wanted another drink after our initial order. They didn’t even replenish the water (I took a water pitcher from the server stand near the restroom so we had something to drink). Fun cocktail menu; wine was overpriced ($25 for a glass of red wine - seriously). I would recommend for take out - skip the dine in experience.
Made a reservation for a Tuesday evening at 6:15 before a concert at the Capital One Arena. We were seated within 5 minutes. Our waiter was very nice and explained everything about the restaurant and food as it was our first time there. Everything in the menu sounded so good it was hard to decide. We ended up sharing the shrimp dumplings and the bread basket. The dumplings were really good, you could tell the pasta was fresh. The bread basket was amazing!!!! Came with a variety of bread along with butter and strawberry jam. The cornbread was to die for. We both ended up ordering the Cacio E Pepe with shrimp bc of the fresh pasta and it was amazing. Everything we ate we kept
Saying omg, this is so good. For dessert we were eyeing the donuts of course. We got the Bananas Foster donut and the Maple cinnamon donut bread pudding. Both were soooo yummy!!! We were very pleased with our experience and can’t wait to go back and try more.
I've been to Farmers & Distillers a couple of times. The Atmosphere is a good, people are friendly, and the food is tasty. First time around the service was great. Second time around the service was more than a bit slow, a one hour lunch break turned into two. Hopefully this is a one time occurrence...
Always tasty, well-prepared food and excellent service. Great variety of offerings for DC Restaurant Week. Super restaurant for small group lunches or dinners. The only issue is with the music level. Our small party had to raise voices over the high volume of music at our small table -- not so pleasant. I asked about the music level the last time I visited F & D, but nothing has changed. Overall, a very good dining experience, though. Will return.
Great place to dine down in the DC area. Great food and drinks. The only drawback to my experience was the time it took to be seated and the location in which we were sat. I had a reservation, yet it took a good 10 minutes for us to be seated (and we were the only party waiting at the hostess stand) and then once we were seated, we passed several open booths located in front of the large windows and were placed in the far back corner of the restaurant where it was dark and empty. Really odd and not very welcoming.
Loved the vegetable appetizer! And the doughnuts!
Hi Westchester: Thank you for sharing your kind praise for the food you enjoyed. :) We appreciate it and look forward to welcoming you back soon. -Amy
Best pace to eat in DC
The food was pretty good; most of our table was satisfied, however I got the 'homemade' sweet potato ravioli which was more like a fried pot sticker, so that was disappointing. The wine selection by the glass was fantastic, although a bit pricey (it is in DC afterall). Our server had half the dining room (not sure why they had him take so many tables) so it took him a while to not only get to us initially, but get our drinks then get back to us for the order. The food came out right away as they had runners bringing them out, so that was good. The noise level was also really high (music more than anything) so we all were hoarse after the meal (it was a Sunday evening so I'm not sure why the music was so loud). I would go back just to make sure it wasn't a fluke kinda night and I would definitely order other items on the menu, as those were good.
Hi GoddessAthena: Thank you for sharing your review with us. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and hope for the chance to welcome you back soon! Please call us at (202) 464-3001 for any reservation help needed. -Amy
They had a brunch till 2:00. Reservation was for 2:15. We were not there for the brunch. They sat us a little before 2:00. The person who sat us told us that normal menu would start later but we would be able to still enjoy the brunch until 3:00. So we reluctantly decided to go with brunch. This was a mistake. Food was not being replenished! And I was not happy with selection.
We came into farmers and distillers at 2pm, at which point we could have the all you can eat brunch or order lunch. Our hostess seated us and told us nothing. There wasn’t a waiter anywhere in sight. 20 minutes later a waitress came by and told us all 6 of us had to do brunch or lunch, but we couldn’t choose. Another 15 minutes later a waitress came by and poured us water into some dirty glasses, and didn’t even make eye contact or smile. We waited another 15 min and no one approached us for our drink orders or even came by to check on us. After sitting at the place for 45 minutes with barely any attention from any of the staff we left.
Hi OlgaF: Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. I am very sorry to read that our team absolutely failed to give you & your guests a wonderful start to your experience, and after an unfortunate delay, you & your party left without dining. :( This is truly unacceptable on our end, and I would love the chance to touch base & look into this with our Management Team. That said, I will send you a follow up PM with my contact info. -Amy
It was extremely disappointing that we arrive Sunday for a 1-1:15 brunch and everything is always out. The Salmon, Ham, Bacon, Fruit, sauteed vegetables were consistently out every time we got up over the 1.5 hours that we were there. It seemed like a lot of the stuff that normally constitutes brunch was not being replenished. I wish we were given the option to just order off the menu because that is completely unacceptable to charge $33 for a brunch with very limited options. They even brought out salmon once while i was there and all 15 tiny pieces were gone within 1 minute and then everytime we got back up it was gone. I asked for the fresh fruit and all they said was "it is on the way" It was not replenished the whole time i was there until my group left.
Hi juiceisgood13: I am so sorry to read that the buffet items during your recent visit were not properly replenished during your time with us. I agree this is extremely disappointing and would love the chance to touch base. I will send you a PM with my email address to hopefully continue with this conversation. -Amy
Food and service were very good.
Worst service ever. This is actually the second time we experienced bad service at this location. I thought the first time was just a fluke but seems to be the standard there now. We won’t return, even though they do have the best fried chicken.
Very interesting and diverse menu. Chinese, Italian, burgers, steaks, and more. All tasty and satisfying. The service was a bit slow but not bad.
The service is not as great as other locations.
I have been there for lunch and dinner and much better than the brunch. Most stuff was cold, the service was poor and nothing was that good. It's pricey given that the food isn't great, I didn't get any juice or an offer for coffee, and they didn't "bring" pastries to you.
Thank you, SAJI for sharing your brunch feedback with us. I am so sorry that your brunch experience failed to measure up, and service & the food were not great. :( We appreciate you letting us know these details and our Management Team will address what you shared with our staff that worked this past Saturday. That said, we hope for the chance to have you back soon and please call us at (202) 464-3001 for any reservation help needed. -Amy
Our server was amazing. She offered food and alcohol recommendations, and checked back promptly. She was personable and sweet; and she really pulled the night together. I and my date had the Garlic knots, as an appetizer; and then Imposible Burger, and Cumin Lamb Pasta an an entree. All wonderful.
Mauricio is fantastic! Kenya is good too
One of my favorite restaurants in the city. The buffet offers both healthy and comfort food options. Its amazing. I love their selection.
The menu had a good variety of choices, which pleased the vegetarian in our party. The wine list was also robust. The service was attentive, and friendly.
The check comes on an electronic pad. You have the option of clicking on a tip, like 20%. It's easy; but beware. The tip is calculated on the total bill, not the pre-tax amount. (In DC the tax is 10%.)
We really enjoyed our dinner. The food was outstanding and the restaurant has a great atmosphere. The waiter provided excellent service.
Thank you, Colleen! We appreciate your review and hope to have you back for another outstanding visit soon. :) -Amy
We made a reservation through open table for 9:30. When we arrived the hostess responded “its 9:30 you do know we close at 10:00pm” and then rolled her eyes. Very very rude
Service was outstanding. Our server totally took cues from our table and tailored service to our exact needs. Every single dish was absolutely exceptional! We ordered dumplings, spring rolls, meatballs, All-American Burger, Drunken pulled noodles, salad, and cheesecake for dessert. Drinks were amazing. A truly wonderful evening out. Can't wait to go back!
Hooray! Thank you for your awesome review and we can't wait to have you back!! :) -Amy
Amazing food and service
The Southern Fried Chicken with their signature mac n' cheese exceeded my expectations, and their servers are very friendly and helpful! Highly recommend this restaurant!
I Love the ambience in this place! The yellow seats by the window is a must for us. The plank Salmon was moist and tasty. I tried the strawberry, chocolate glazed cheesecake and boy was it fresh and delicious. Service is great 👍🏾
First time at this location but The founding farmers brand did not disappoint. The food was amazing. Please try the pancakes, the glazed grapefruit and the Chinese chicken. All fantastic.
I’ve been there twice before and the food has been great, this time however they were out of two things I wanted and what I did get, Ravioli and lobster tail had a watery flavorless sauce and raviolis were too al dente
We found a bone in our dish that should not have been there.
