Farmers & Distillers
Excellent vibe in this American bistro . A great variety of selections. From the fresh baked donuts to the Asian inspired dishes, dumplings, amazing beef, and a spectacular crab cake. Service is very efficient but not very engaging or warm.
Great food. Slow inattentive service.
This place is amazing!! Wonderful service, amazing drinks, and the food lived up to our expectations. One of my favorites to dine this far💜💜
My husband and I selected the restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. The restaurant was empty when we arrived. The hostess who sat us wanted us to sit in the bar area while we asked if we can sit by a window. She wasn’t happy with our request.
The batter for the fried green tomatoes tasted like a fish batter. I’ve had this dish at Founding Farmers. It was much better there. Our drinks weren’t good either. We expressed this to our server she offered no replacement or anything. The cake was old. It was hard.
Very disappointing experience.
Hi WontBeBack: I am very sorry to read your Anniversary dinner was unsatisfactory and disappointing! :( I feel badly the FGT, your drinks and the cake all missed the mark, and would love to touch base to hopefully make this right. I will send you a DM with my contact info to hopefully touch base. -Amy
Place great as usual. Just wished that we were told when we booked that it was buffet only.
We sat at the bar and was served some of the best handcrafted cocktails. This is a must do while in DC
Absolutely love the Farmers restaurants for their buffet brunch. We visited one in Tyson’s Corner and loved it but I think we loved this one even more!!! Delicious choices, food is always replenished, everything is so fresh - my only complaint is that we live too far away to go more often, but we will always visit when there’s one in the area. Please open up in the NY/NJ area!!!!
The food was terrible. I had the lobster ravioli. The lobster was previously frozen & tasted like rubber. The ravioli was store bought. I could have bought both from Costco. My daughter had spaghetti & meatballs & the meatballs were burnt on the bottom. My other daughter had chicken fried rice & it was bland with fatty chicken pieces. My husband had the most bland plate of drunken noodles. It wasn’t spicy and had a gooey texture. It is on par with Cheesecake Factory. The only thing done well was the donuts. Not even the cocktails were good.
Hi corinne: Oh gosh!! I am very sorry to read that we totally struck out with the food & cocktails during your family's experience this time! :( I would love the chance to make this right, and will send you a follow up msg with my email address. -Amy
Where to begin? I have frequented this restaurant a handful of times. It’s never been extraordinary, but always good. My last visit was anything but. We had a large group, made a reservation...Got to table, water served and then waited a bit for a server. When she arrived, was very polite, had a little laugh, took drink orders and then it all went downhill! Drinks from the bar took 20ish minutes (we bought the “they are slammed” story at first), but then there was an issue with the order. It wasn’t until the first half of the drinks came out that it was brought to our attention. So we pivot and order something else. Apps show up, we eat...still waiting for 3/6 drinks (2/6 had an issue). Ask a couple people for an update, no response. Server MIA. Two drinks arrive (still missing one from original order) and mind you it’s now 45 minutes into meal. Share plates are cleared, we realize that one of the apps didn’t come out, so ask server to cancel it...not abnormal right? She proceeds to say “why, your food isn’t ready, the last app will be out now. So she is telling us our food isn’t ready, we can’t cancel our missing app, all while clearing the share plates. Ask once more for the missing drink, same response, the bar is backed up!!
Manager brings the last app, it’s cold, we told him we cancelled due to time it took, he offers to comp it and leave it....Ask about drink, he says I’ll go check and never returns. Food shows up maybe 2 minutes after all this happens (she lied). Food was fine, some of the meat was overcooked...but we were over it and ate what we had.
*still no drink from original order* 1hr 10 minutes in.
Server is walking by and we ask for her attention, ask yet again if we can check on drink, same story “bar is backed up” (tables around us are being served so we know that’s a lie. Ask for the manager and her response was he was already here! Ask her to get him again...she says fine and storms off.
He tried to make it right, but overall bad taste.
Great dinner with a wonderfully diverse menu. Perfect for the whole family!
Hi VisitToDC: Thank you very much! We appreciate you joining us and for also sharing your kind review with our team. :) -Amy
Awesome food and drinks. Lovely staff, cannot wait to try some of the other menu items....especially the brunch
The Thanksgiving food was great. I just wish the serving of the mash potatoes and stuffing wasn’t so small.
Took me 3 hours to eat the food bc the waitress was so slow. It was thanksgiving day, but you still have to be prepared for it. No excuse for me having to sit and wait there for 3 WHOLE THREE HOURS. The food tastes like it was already prepared as well but bc of this, EVERYTHING WAS COLD. Turkey was super salty; and bread and cake tastes like it was straight outta Walmart. Not eating at this place again bc it’s DEFINITELY not worth $100 for 2 persons
This place is predictably delicious every single time. They have my unconditional recommendation. Expect to be delighted and satisfied.
Great a Thanksgiving dinner
We ate here for Thanksgiving. We arrived early and enjoyed a drink at the bar. Our bartender was great. We were seated on time and our server, Alexandra was great! She had a great personality and provided great service. The portions were great and the food was excellent. The only complaint was that there was too little cranberry relish. The butternut squash soup was great as were all of the desserts. We had a great meal and experience!
First time having a bad meal at a Farmer’s restaurant. Thanksgiving Turkey, mine was the only one that tasted like salty brine. Waitress didn’t care, nor did she care about anything except moving us along. Will not come here for Thanksgiving again. Still love the brunches!
This has become our go-to place for thanksgiving dinner. Cost was more and service was way slower than last year.
I bought two other friends to this restaurant that were in town to have Thanksgiving dinner we did not enjoy the smoked turkey the other person who bought it as well as I did the turkey was so salty it was unbearable to eat it all also the punitive amount of stuffing that was given to us was not even enough to really taste you have all this salted turkey but no stuffing and I had to order extra which still is just a little bit like a spoonful the cake that I got after work had no sweetness to it whatsoever was chocolate devil food cake I understand no sweetness with some people like but this cake had no sugar whatsoever it didn't even taste like cake I wasn't very pleased at all and this is the first time I ever went to this particular restaurant
Not for a pre-fix dinner like Thanksgiving. The sides were varied to amazing for the stuffing/dressing, to tasteless for the green beans, which was actually fine for me since I don't like the taste of green beans. The main dishes though were almost inedible. I had turkey that was so salty it was really only edible when I ate a bite with a bite of mashed potatoes which didn't have a lot of flavor themselves so they cut the salt from the meat. My mom's turkey was "slimy" so I am assuming whoever brined the breasts got seriously over excited about it. On the other hand my dad ordered the ham, because turkey is often dry, and it was dry. The music was probably what they would run on a normal dinner service, but it was loud for the type of gatherings they were hosting. It just seemed like a miss all around.
Hi KristenH: I am very sorry to read your family's Thanksgiving was a total miss all around. :( I would love the chance to touch base about the poor meal preparation you described, and will send you a DM with my contact info. -Amy
Fabulous and Ughmaaaazing
We had a very enjoyable experience dining at Farmers & Distillers on Thanksgivings. The food was delicious and the waitress was excellent although she was very busy. We will not hesitate to return.
Awful recent experience compared to previous visits. Beverages ordered when we were seated arrived at the end of our entrees. Had to wave staff down for silverware for soup, desserts. Main course arrived while still eating appetizers and plonked on table. Dessert arrived while still eating main course...food was barely warm, ham was curled as if under warmer for a while.
Very disappointed.
I took my parents who were visiting for Thanksgiving. The pre-fixe menu was good, and I liked the veg/vegan option. The service was slow—it took quite a while to get drinks and bread plates. It seemed that they were understaffed.
Very nice Thanksgiving lunch! Tasty selections. Elegantly casual and comfortable place. Good for family get togethers. I loved the tea service with a beautiful cup and tea pot!
F&S was kinda all over the place with our reservations, seated very promptly then watched the next table seated and greeted by their waitress. The soup and salad were really good, the dinner was an extensive array of savory servings, however the gravy was really salty and that made it difficult to eat anything that I would normally pour gravy on. Not sure the price was appropriate for a single plate of food, salad and dessert knowing that the regular brunch is 20% less expensive.
We have been going to farmers and distillers for the last 4 years for thanksgiving- absolutely enjoy the food- always delicious and spot on !! Service is incredible !!
Hi Awesome: Hooray!! Thank you for joining us for another wonderful Thanksgiving! We already look forward to next year. :) -Amy
Fries were ice cold and Juicy Lucy was way over cooked to the point it was crispy. My wife loved her chicken sandwich but again fries ice cold. Farmers whiskey was great and service was too.
Hi MikeJB: I am real sorry to read the food was only rated 2/5 stars and fries were served cold & the burger was overcooked. :/ I would love the chance to touch base and hopefully turn around the outcome of your experience- I will send you a DM to cont this conversation. -Amy
Wonderful, fresh, unique menu options for every pallet. Reasonably priced for a DC restaurant. Attractive decor. Good location. Great for groups or a date. And, they make their own delicious donuts!!!
I took a colleague out to lunch. She ordered the fried chicken and donut. It was her first time eating at your restaurant and two things were very disappointing:
1. Her fried chicken was undercooked
2. The second piece of chicken was only fried chicken skins. It contained no meat.
The server and especially the manager were very accommodating and nice. They made her another complete meal and did not charge for the meal. She was appreciative of their effort.
Fantastic as always!
Hi Todd: Thank you so much!! Really appreciate it and hope to have you back soon. :) -Amy
We enjoyed our lunch and the atmosphere was great!
The food was fantastic! The service timing was off it's game the whole visit.
Nothing to say it was great
I decided to try this one because I tried Farmer's Fishers Baker's brunch to see the difference. The plates were dirty. Half washed. The food was luke warm or cold. The chicken was tasty. The vegetable eggs were salty. The parmesan grits had no flavor. The chili taste good with the cornbread. They offered corn tortillas but no meat to go in them. The waitress offered pancakes to order. They came to us cold. The shrimp they walked around to tables with were overcooked. The fried French toast was so delicious with banana foster with pecans. The cinnamon rolls were soft and good. Our waitress was wonderful. She made our visit worth while with her exceptional service.
Great Brunch!! Could have gotten the salmon and crab cakes replenished faster though.
