It was good. Nothing to write home about- ok food, server was nice, prices were on the higher side. Our table was very wobbley and I brought this up several times to different employees of the restaurant and they didn't ever address the issue.
Very good meal at Farmer and the Fish. Solid quality and taste. Prices a bit high for what you get but always a pleasant experience. Desserts are just average.
Admittedly it was late but the waitstaff made it clear that they would have rather been anywhere else other than serving out table.
I’ve been here about 5 or 6 times. The food is always fresh and delicious no matter what we order. This time we came early for the happy hour before dinner. The $1 oysters are great and a huge deal! So worth stopping in for. Staff is friendly & helpful. I would recommend visiting for any meal they offer.
Beautiful restaurant with an amazing menu! One of my favorite places!
Food is equally as good as the restaurant in Purdys. Prices are about the same too and the wait staff excellent.
Amazing food and service, but EXTREMELY loud and difficult for a date for talking.
Although we arrived near closing time, Schuyler was friendly and efficient in getting our three entrees onto the kitchen quickly. The summer gazpacho was refreshing after a long hot day. The Icelandic Cod was prepared perfectly and the accompanying broth was so delicious, I had to ask for a spoon to finish it all. The burger and salmon were well-received by my dinner guests and although after closing time we were permitted to enjoy and finish our after-dinner conversations and not rushed out of the restaurant. A thoroughly enjoyable end to our day on World Pride Day 2019.
Food was mediocre. Although the restaurant was not in the least bit busy the service was horrible. They brought the wrong food to the table and could not get our drink orders correct even after the third round of drinks.
Probably the worst salad I’ve had in NYC in a decade. The grilled chicken couldn’t be chewed. The greens were wilted and pathetic. It was supposed to have bleu cheese. I found one crumble. The saving grace is that we were looking at their specials board and were planning on returning some Weds for their clam bake. At least I know if can skip that in the future!
Little bit too pricey, would definitely go again but not often at those prices
I was disappointed and my group of 6 left after appetizers. There was no air conditioning and the service was very slow.
This place was a real disappointment. When they say “farm”, that is true to the extent vegetables grow in a farm. As for “fish” it was a slim selection and nothing special. The place was too hot and the service horrendous. There were 2 waitpersons for the entire place. When I asked the waitress if they were understaffed for the evening, she said that 2 waiters were normal for a Monday, as they don’t expect to be as crowded. As a result, service was incredibly slow. Add to that $20 for a glass of wine. I will not be back
Love the menu here! Peter was fantastic with offering menu suggestions and being on top of everything.
Seated right away but it took a while before someone came to our table. After getting water, we waited again. After ordering drinks, we ordered appetizers and entrees and were asked if we wanted everything at once??? Despite asking for the 3 appetizers first and then entrees, we got 2 appetizers - the third came as we were finishing the others. Asked for bread 3 times before getting it shortly before the entrees. Had to ask multiple times for more water. Appetizers were good but small portion for crab bites and Brussels sprouts. Calamari was average size. The big eye tuna dish was excellent but needed more curry sauce. The sea bass was also good but the portion was small. S’mores brownie for dessert was OK. Service improved when a different person took over our table. They certainly don’t rush you - we were there for over 2 hours. Overall the food was very good but the service was lacking as mentioned.
My friends and I (group of 6) visited The Farmer and The Fish for dinner to catch up and enjoy great food. This place does a great job of creating the kind of environment where you can simply focus on your dear friends because they take care of everything else. Friendly and helpful staff. The food was incredible, grounded in very carefully sourced ingredients. Awesome wine to accompany that food. Finally, a great vibe, especially when they open the front windows fully (which basically makes it an open air restaurant). Went for the first time for brunch for my team of 10 people. Caught a peak at their dinner menu and booked it for a gathering of friends. Can't wait to find my next excuse to visit!
The restaurant was selected primarily because a guests accessibility needs. Other potential options either had stairs or involved too much walking. As a New Englander my standards for fish and chips is high. The coating had crunch and was not doughy. The slaw served with the fish and chips lacked any dressing I was too exhausted from the restaurant negotiations to care. The tarter sauce is very good but the dish comes with small amount and more was desirable. Others had the black Cod which lacked a side dish so the small amount of Cod stood out. Another guest had the $45 ribeye steak. I can't say how good it was but half of it went home with her. We ordered a selection of vegetable starters. The greedy guests left me only one carrot and it was fine. The Brussel sprouts were nothing special. I can't even remember the third dish so obviously not memorable. I did enjoy the smokey old fashioned and the four stars are due in large part to the cocktail, the fish and chips and comfortable chair.
Great time very good meal!
The food was delicious and we loved the ambiance! The restaurant was perfectly able to accommodate our party of 6. My only two critics are:
1) The meal was slightly rushed. As soon as our entree plates were taken away, the waiter asked us about dessert. We had to ask him to slow down.
2) The restaurant was very loud (even with the street side wall open). Since we had a later reservation, the got more tolerable as the meal progressed. In the beginning however, we had to talk very loud just to hear across the table.
I would come back here, but most likely for lunch or on a quieter night.
Great service and food!
Best fish and chips ever!
THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!! I'VE BEEN HERE 5 TIMES AND HAVE NEVER HAD A BAD MEAL
I wanted to go to Farmer & The Fish for a long time and was very disappointed.
Variety on the menu, which I thought would have a lot of fish dishes, did not.
My friend had chicken which was red (it looked uncooked although the waiter assured us it was cooked) and didn't taste very good. Same with my fish sandwich.
Like I said very disappointed.
Server barely came by my table. I ordered a whole fish and she said she would filet it for me. When my meal arrived along w my husband’s meal, a different person brought it over. And when I asked him to find my server to filet the fish as promised. He said he would find her. She never came by; my husband’s food was getting cold as he was waiting for me to eat together. Finally some random person came by to filet the fish and he BUTCHERED IT.
Consistently, great food every time we visit this restaurant. Good salads and fish dishes. Always good service. The only mild disappointment was the noise level was too loud. Make reservations!
We came for our annual blue crab feasting. Unfortunately, they did not have them and did a courtesy call to let us know. That was nice. But we still went 2 less people but we like the restaurant. We had monkfish tacos and fish and chips. The tacos were good. Fish and chips a little bland it was hake fish. We will be back for crabs.
Sat in the windows. Close enough to feel outside air and freshness. Still inside to be shielded from hot afternoon sun
Great seafood bites. Salads amazing. Chefs was a little heavy handed with the fresh chopped dill tho
Starters were boring. I had Ree fish tacos but other than three soft small taco shells, it hardly met my definition a taco. Deep fried monkfish (chewy), raw vegetables and no salsa or taco sauce. Fried polenta sticks were fine but the dipping sauce tasted like thousand island dressing, right out of the bottle.
We arrived for happy hour and stayed for dinner. Great daily specials and $1 oyster happy hour.
Just a beautiful restaurant and the food was delicious!
Plenty of great seafood options however, service was just ok. Pricey dishes for the portion size.
Beautiful atmosphere delicious and creative menu.
Feel transformed in this bright fresh restaurant.
I have eaten several times at this restaurant, each and every time , it was delicious. They must have been having an off night, because the food was not even edible.
Good food, friendly service and a homey interior design make this a recommend. Went for mother’s day and though it was loud, the various fish dishes were excellent. Loved the branzino, served whole. Our friendly server cut the fish at the table for my kids who preferred the filet. I had the cod, served in a broth. Yummy
Lovely atmosphere, attentive service.
Cocktails (The Farmer, Smokey Pineapple Mojito) very good.
Oysters fresh, food good.
Went for Mother's Day brunch. Brunch food seemed pre-prepared, hollandaise was set, Bloody Marys were underwhelming, waiter seemed overwhelmed and service was slow. I've had dinner here many times before and it was excellent, but this was pretty underwhelming.
We went for a Mother's Day meal and I chose this restaurant because the menu looked right up my wife's alley! The service was very good, food was fine but nothing really stood out. Unfortunately the place is really LOUD...we had a difficult time talking to one another.
The restaurant offers an imaginative menu, pleasant decor, and friendly service. But the noise level is a little too high.
Food was meh. Brussel sprouts were overloaded with cheese. Caesar salad was drenched in dressing. Much better restaurant options similarly priced in the area.
