Opened in June 1997 by famed restaurateur/designer Pat Kuleto and Chef Mark Franz, Farallon is located in the heart of San Francisco’s Union Square in the historic Elks Building. Recognizing the demand for large parties, Pat and Mark have also created three private dining rooms on the fourth floor.

The experience that Farallon creates is wonderful. Came here for an anniversary and was seated in a cozy booth for two. Service was great, food was great! Would definitely recommend.

Great ambiance BUT lousy food at high prices. What is so difficult about simply serving a nice piece of properly cooked fresh fish with a sauce?

Fantastic ambiance, especially a table on the second floor, overlooking the ground floor. Beautiful decor (lights in shapes of large jelly fish) and excellent service. Delicious food with menu changing regularly dependent on what is fresh.

Unfortunately we did not enjoy Farallon. My wife ordered the saberfish. She said it was a strong flavor. I ordered the yellowtail. Rather than be light, white and flakey, it was grayish brown and rubbery. It was terrible.

They were extremely nice about it, and let me replace it. I then asked for the tuna appetizer (I know I like seared. tuna, and my stomach was a bit upset from the yellowtail). The tuna was very veiny. Certainly not the caliber that I expected.

The service was good (though the waitress appeared a little annoyed imho), and management did what they could to make me happy. I just wish the food was better.

We have been here 4 times in the past 2 years
The last 2 times the food was not up to par
When we pay 4 bills for a dinner for 2 ... we should be floating out of the restaurant in bliss

Farallon is a feast for the eyes and usually the mouth. A couple misses tonight. We allowed 2 hours for an early dinner. Apparently our entrees had an accident and had to be redone. The swordfish was hot, but way oversalted as was the sauce. We asked for still water ( the only options given being sparkling or still) and instead of tap water were charged for bottles of spring water at $17). The table next to us later was offered tap water as an option. Our waiter disappeared just into dinner service although one of the floor managers provided attentive service. We ended up literally running for an 8pm show, due to the delays. A 5% health surcharge was added to the bill. With entrees upwards of $42, you'd think that could cover employee costs. Tonight was a miss.

Excellent as always. Had the sable fish, with several well presented vegetables. The outstanding dish was the thinly sliced scallops. Think twice if you fail to order this.

Spent Valentines Dinner w/ theater after. Wonderful atmosphere, wait staff, food, ambiance. Let our server know we had theater tickets and she timed our meal perfectly. Will be back when we can spend more luxurious time. We loved it!

It's a nice place to have dinner, with an eccentric decoration. Food and service were excelent, but a little expensive. It was a little too noisy for me.
