This place is amazing! We felt like we’d entered a time warp, and were dining under the sea in this incredibly elegant and timeless setting. What a special, unique place - don’t miss the chance to experience Farallon!
We loved being able to make our reservations online with OpenTable and not having to call to talk to someone! Pleasant surprise to find much lower priced valet parking compared to hotel next door and parking garage down the street! The staff were all very pleasant and the food service attention was perfectly timed.
The beat meal I’ve had all year. Absolutely outstanding!
It was a great experience as usual. I had an appetizer and the kitchen brought out a stuffed blossom for my father. The food was spot on and the staff was friendly. I can’t wait to go back again.
I love to eat at new establishment and to try new foods. The food was amazing and the staff makes you feel at home. The wine selection, food and service where 5 stars! I highly recommend Farallon to others who want a special night.
Experience was absolutely perfect! I reserved for a bachelorette party and we were stunned by how wonderful and delicious the food was. I highly recommend this place.
Food: phenomenal! We ordered pretty much the entire menu to try various items. The beef was absolutely insane! This is a must get item! For dessert, get the coconut layer cake.... soooo good!
Service: our waiter Chase was very prompt and available at all times. Ordered a bottle of wine and was provided the utmost service. Not to mention the pastry chef, Eric, came by and provide us with complimentary desert items to celebrate the special occasion. Thank you to everyone for one of the best experience We’ve experienced.
Ambiance: nice low lighting, white table cloth, clean, and provided the special occasion scene we were looking for.
Valet parking is available on
Great food and ambience. Extremely friendly and effective staffs.
I have been coming here for trade show related special customer dinners since 2011. Never disappoints. We had a larger party this time, 7, with a vegetarian and a Texan who is a very picky eater (beef and more beef). There were super accommodating to our guests and of the course the decor/ambiance is as impressive as the food. Super service by Kirsten. Our whole party was really awed.
Even better than expected; ambiance, service, food and ability to get to the theatre on time!
We have enjoyed several meals here over the years, all great. The meal this week was spectacular, and thoughtfully presented.
As one of my dining companions said - I don't think we've ever had a bad meal here. It's pricey, but so good.
Architectural features incredible. Took international guests and they very much impressed from the jelly fish lights, the caviar staircase, and sea urchin chandeliers. Beautiful. The fresh seafood -crab, oyster, clam and smoked oyster incredible. The halibut dish was over cooked as were all items on the plate. Desserts unique & tasty. Service was outstanding. Truffle risotto was excellent but would have enjoyed a bit of cheese in the risotto.
It’s a Prixe Fixe menu for $75. Good value if the halibut dish had been prepared properly.
Shall go again for cocktails.
Fabulous!!! Great menu, cool secluded booth and amazing sea creature lights!
We went to Farallon for my birthday. We first looked online at reviews and menu and both were good. I had been once before but my husband had not and I thought he would enjoy the decor and seafood. When we arrived we were given menus for a fixed price, three course meal at $76 each. This was not indicated on the website so I asked our waiter and he said it was the new style they were using. I didn’t want three courses but there weren’t really any other options. My appetizer, abalone soup, was bland. The number of entrees were very limited with just two fish choices. We both ordered the New England clam bake as entrees and when they arrived, each consisted of a small over cooked lobster tail, two nickel size pieces of sausage, two clams in the shell, some potatoes and kernels of corn floating in a very unappetizing brown broth. The dessert was mediocre. When I returned to our room, I checked the website and a typical menu was still shown. There are too many great restaurants in San Francisco to ever return here.
Excellent food and exceptional service! Beautiful restaurant!
We had another fantastic dinner!
We ordered a $50USD seafood platter that contained 2 oysters, 2 clams, 2 mussels, a small sea urchin and a small cup of Dungeness crab with lots of ice. We ordered along with that bowls of clam chowder. The waiter only brought us one order of the soup in two bowls I believe because he thought we were in a sharing mood (?). We also shared a sundae as dessert. Finally, for drinks we ordered sparkling water and a cappuccino. Our dinner came to $175 CAD without gratuity. For this price I would expect to be eating in a Michelin multi star restaurant. The food was excellent for what we had as was the overall service. It’s a beautiful restaurant with a wonderful history. But I cannot condone the pricing so I would not recommend this restaurant to any Canadian as there are so many more viable options in the city.
We’ve been to Farallon several times in the past and the food quality has always justified the price. This time the flavors were just so so and the portions were tiny, so the prices were way too high for what we got.
We have been going to dinner at Farallon for years every time we visit San Francisco. We were extremely disappointed with this experience. Not only were the portions minuscule, the pricing for those portions were outrageous. In addition, at the table behind us, a woman was obnoxiously loud, laughing alike a very loud calling chicken nonstop\op throughout our entire meal making conversation to have.Even the staff shook their heads at the situation , but nothing was said to the customer.
We, in all probability, will never return to the restaurant.
The food was just marginal, I am sorry to say!
Our dinner experience was really good with the exception of one thing - the Platter for Two was a total RIPOFF! I almost laughed when it was delivered. It was $49 and included two small shrimp, two oysters, two clams and a little portion of crab. I complained to the waitress and she didn’t do anything and no manager came over to speak to me about it. Everything else about this restaurant was positive but I left feeling like I got ripped-off. I am in SF for business every 2-3 weeks and doubt I will return. Too many other dining options in this city.
I was disappointed - the restaurant is overpriced and overhyped in my opinion. Decorations felt cheesy, food overpriced for what it was, service a bit snooty ... I wouldn't recommend unless my mother, grandmother or elderly aunt was in town... it might feel fancy to them.
We haven't been to Farallon for a few yrs, only b/c of our busy lives, and happy to say it's still as good as it ever was. As a matter of fact, I think it's even better. Although Farallon clientelles are more adult couples, we had our 2 tween/teenager with us and we were treated just as wonderful. The service from our waitress to the rest of the staff was attentive but not intrusive. We didn't feel rushed or had to wait long for our next course. And the food...phenomenal. We'll definitely try to come back more often than we have been.
This is a beautiful room with high curved ceilings. The service and food were both excellent. Can't wait to go back to Farallon!
After 21 years Farallon keeps operating at a higher level then most restaurants. Service, food decor and overall experience was superb
A beautiful restaurant with friendly talented servers and always fabulous food@
It was a lovely Saturday in San Francisco. We went to a play at the San Francisco Theater upstairs at The Kensington Hotel. After the play we had reservations right downstairs at The Farallon Restaurant. We were seated at one of the tables in this most interesting restaurant. We enjoyed some cocktails and then dinner. We each had a Dungenss Crab Appetizer, mine was a louie which was excellent. We both ordered the Halibut, which is our favorite, and we were a little disappointed in the presentation and my husband's was undercooked. We advised our server and she immediately ordered him another serving which was cooked well. The manager approached and presented a complimentary cup of their abalone chowder which my husband thoroughly enjoyed. To top off their hospitality they comped my husband's cocktail to say they were sorry. I think they demonstrated incredible care and for this reason would probably go again.
superb dining experience - they don't miss a detail
Excellent food and ambiance !
It was a wonderful experience celebrating my friend's birthday dinner there. The environment feels excluded from the outside world where we can relax and hear each other talk. The waiters were attentive and very knowledgeable about the dishes. We just feel very comfortable after a day of work. I would recommend for anyone to unwind and enjoy their evening there. Thank you!
Great food and great staff. Best experience in San Francisco
Wonderful birthday dinner. Staff was excellent.
As usual Farallon was exactly what we hoped for. My husband and I eat there fairly often and took a leisurely stroll through the menu. The chefs are always willing to accommodate my dietary restrictions as well. Perfection
I ate here a while back and didn't really recall whether it was good-bad-or amazing. It's neither...it's "just OK". Yes, the decor was amazing. I recommend just going for the Happy Hour 5-6 PM and ogling the underwater decor. Very interesting (soon to be outdated though). The food: +/-. Oysters were good but overpriced. The fish carpaccio was lacking something to give it zest, flavor, life! My halibut was a tad dry (that's pretty bad, serving dry halibut in a seafood restaurant). The $200+ bill was definitely NOT worth the food we were served. For the same underwater ambience, the Academy of Science in GG Park is a better value. I won't return to Farallon...
We have dined at Farallon many times. We found the menu uninspiring....salmon and halibut with lesser quality fish. We shared shrimp and grits...difficult to eat and almost no shrimp. And gnocchi....tough. Service was superb. Unfortunately this visit disappointing.
My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary and we couldn't have been more pleased! Next time, we'll probably just sit at the bar and eat oysters since they were that good. We were able to be seated earlier than our reservation and our waiter, Nancy, was well versed with the entire menu so you can comfortably ask for solid recommendations. While I mentioned earlier that the oysters were worth eating on their own, the rest of the seafood was delicious. Food came to us quickly, our glasses of water were never empty, and they were quick to offer refills to our wine. Only minor complaint is that it can get quite loud, but we admittedly came during Memorial Day Weekend so that might not always be the case. Would definitely come again if I feel like some fine dining in the city.
Fabulous food, service and ambiance. A must if in San Francisco
Magnificent aquatic themed interior. Preciously prepared overwrought seafood cuisine. Always enjoyable, always too expensive.
Excellent as always, creative & delicious. Loved the goat cheese salad. Simple but so good. I ordered something entirely not me. The pork leg. Off the chart.
Farallon as usual was all around wonderful! What a gorgeous gem of a restaurant. The food was not only delicious , but also beautiful. Our server was on point and made us all feel so welcomed.
