Opened in June 1997 by famed restaurateur/designer Pat Kuleto and Chef Mark Franz, Farallon is located in the heart of San Francisco’s Union Square in the historic Elks Building. First time here...we will definitely be back! First rate food, atmosphere and service. Very knowledgeable and helpful Sommelier!
It was an amazing experience and the staff was wonderful.
Awesome atmosphere, a change on our special day with more on the Seafood side, food was to the point!
Always outstanding food and service. Great wine selection and sommelier (Luke).
The seafood here is divine. Everything is delicious. Flavor pairings were amazing. The atmosphere is fun & unique.
All about the great staff they all were great. Wonderful recommendations
David is great! Thanks to the team!
Fun, original, local food, thematically connected to the unique restaurant design and the SF Bay Area. A personal favorite for years.
The service was very good. Our waitress was most attentive. The food was presented well and had good flavors. My wife's swordfish was just a bit over cooked as it was a little on the dry side. I would recommend Farallon.
Fantastic choice! Kristen and Freddy are outstanding servers!!!
We had a lovely meal. The busboy (Fernando??) was very attentive and friendly , but our waiter (David) was very condescending and full of himself.
I always enjoy coming here. It’s my favorite restaurant in SF. The decor, service and food is amazing. Every once in awhile they mess up. Tonight the presentation was great but the trout and steak was heavily salted. I had to drink a ton of water to get it down. I’m relocating out of the Bay Area and I made it a point to visit Farallon before leaving. I’m a bit disappointed in tonight’s dinner being it’s my last for a very long time. However, I still totally recommend Farallon to anyone.
Una decoración muy especial, buen servicio y ambiente.
Great seafood as always , but really WEIRD & SLOPPY Host & Hostess once again.
Make reservation on OT for romantic anniversary dinner & cozy quiet 2-top, they then TRY to sit us at an abandoned mega 4-top...I make a OT reserv for a cute table away from others at the front of the restaurant, they TRY to unload a noisy way too big table at the back of the restaurant. Hello....
Host boy/man without nice dinner coat on (unlike all workers inside restaurant) NEVER communicated to me that HE was NOT gonna give us what he promised or said or what we agreed upon...we even waited 10-15 mins on the side of chilly entry for that table type, then he NEVER gave it to us, like a SNEAK, girl hostess with poor English (? Russian) says Host told her to put us at mega 4-top in rear dining area, JUST the OPPOSITE of my OT request & our verbal agreement upon checkin. My gf had to suggest an open booth on side not in main DR as Host "lost"...
We enjoyed a sampling of oysters, fresh fish dishes, and a great bottle of wine. The service was impeccable, our waiter even worked with the chef make a change to the preparation of my entree. Highly recommended.
Was there for Happy Hour. Oysters were tiny and probably not even worth their package deal of 6 for $7. Margaritas good and cheese plate fine. Not a bargain but not a rip off.
We loved every minute of our dinner here.
Anniversary dinner night.
I have been in the Food and Fine dining restaurant business for over 20+ years and Executive Chef Jason and his team did an outstanding job on the menu and pairing of flavors as all as the Wine Sommier and wait staff.
Congratulations on an amazing Menu and restaurant !!
I won’t give a bad review, it’s not fair to the restaurant. It was my first tome there and while I enjoyed the ambiance and restaurant very much our food was over cooked. He had the cherry wood grilled steak and and I had the Ling Cod. We didn’t complain because I feel like if it’s edible it’s fine, I’m not a complainer. I will go back to give it another chance. I always give a place the benefit of the doubt.
Dismal. It was honestly disappointing. Cold food, long wait for drinks, poor service.
It was fine. Food was good and we sat at a cozy booth which was great. I don't think we would have been as happy at a table. The restaurant is a bit noisy.
Dinner was absolutely spectacular. My wife and I were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. The Farallon team gave us a first class experience. We can’t wait to return.
Took forever to get food. Food was decent. Won’t go back.
Fabulous service, great meal, local ingredients. Definately worth it. Allium soup was original & delicious, & Petrale sole baked to perfection.
The food and service was wonderful. Pricey but worth it for a special occasion. Especially well suited to sea food lovers. I would highly recommend the sea food platter, either to share between two, or as an entry for one person.
Amazing food and service. Beautiful interior. $250 for dinner for 2.
Great setting, excellent food with emphasis on seafood and supporting wine list. Lots of booth seating encourages good conversation. Still my favorite in SF.
Excellent! Lovely ambiance, wonderful food and great service
We had our wedding reception and chose to go back for our one year wedding anniversary because Farallon and their staff always go above and beyond! The attention to detail and just warmth of every single person who works there is just unmatched with any other restaurant we’ve ever been to. We’ll always go back for our special occasions! They left us a nice card wishing us a happy anniversary, and brought our dessert with a little note written in white chocolate as well, so great!
Our first time to Farallon and it was a fantastic experience. From the host who promptly greeted us and accommodated us as we were about an hour early for our reservation (after freezing watching the Chinese New Years parade), we were seated at a very quiet and intimate table where we could overlook the entire restaurant. Apparently it is the table that the owners sit at when they dine there. The wine selection is a bit overwhelming so both our waiter and the sommelier, Luke were able to help us pick a reasonably priced wine that was superb. The General Manager Dale, who we met at a Chef's Holiday at Yosemite, greeted us and treated us as of we were family. The food was amazing, not pretentious, but very delicious and memorable. My wife ordered the swordfish and I ordered the sablefish. Both were cooked to perfection and accompanied by a great side and unique sauce. We topped off the evening with the Butterscotch Bread Pudding which was prepared by the new pastry chef to perfection. Overall it was an evening to remember for both me and my wife. Highly recommend for an evening near Union Square.
One of the most beautiful interiors of any restaurant that I've been to. Their specialty is seafood, but the steak is very good, also. If I had a criticism, it would be that they didn't have a very deep cocktail menu. The cocktails we had (Mariner's Martini) was good, but I'd like to see more cocktail choices. The service was very professional and not overbearing. We stayed a long time, but never felt rushed to finish. A great special occasion restaurant.
I am Vegan and was sweating looking at the menu. I asked my waiter if there were any vegan options and he brightly answered YES! Appetizer and entree. I ordered both. They were so delicious, I sent my compliments to the chef. My waiter answered that it helped to read my comments on Open Table reservation. Thank you so much for an amazing, wonderful experience. xoxo
This restaurant served fresh local seafood in a plush, comfortable dining area that was uniquely laid out with chambered ceilings and decorated with piscatorial scenes. The dishes ranged from simple to imaginative, and the staff was well informed and helpful.
Our evening was magical. Our server was both warm, and elegant. His especial attention to our daughter (11 y.o.) made our evening a memorable one. The meal was lovely, delicious, and prettily arranged. I highly recommend a meal here for a special occasion.
The experience that Farallon creates is wonderful. Came here for an anniversary and was seated in a cozy booth for two. Service was great, food was great! Would definitely recommend.
The selection oysters is wonderful to start. The breads are tasty and the entrees are to die for.
Great ambiance BUT lousy food at high prices. What is so difficult about simply serving a nice piece of properly cooked fresh fish with a sauce?
