Everything was excellent except for one thing: I ordered the half Dungeness crab. They delivered a few small distal extremities, no body, lots of work cracking and slopping with, very little crab meat. I complained. They deducted the item from our bill. That’s fine, but one doesn’t go to a high-class restaurant to be disappointed and subsequently compensated...

Farallon is a top-notch restaurant with a beautiful environment and stellar food, which is, as my teen said, "The best I've ever put in my mouth."

The raw dishes are always on point. The tuna carpaccio was excellent. Your octopus is always cooked right. Very good seafood.

Very good restaurant. The food was good but I would not say great. The John Dory was overcooked and the lobster was drowning in water. The ocean trout was amazing. Overall service was good but again, not great.

Had a fabulous pre-theater dinner. For starters, we got the shrimp chowder, grilled octopus and the tuna tartar - all were excellent, the weakest being the chowder, but only because the other apps were so delicious. For mains we got John Dory (cooked perfectly, with skin crispy and fish succulent); ocean trout (pumpkin puree added a hint of sweetness) and the sole (perfectly cooked). Desserts were also special -- trio of sorbets (light and refreshing), chocolate & blood orange crepe (need I say more), and affogato (wonderful). Can't wait for our next meal at Farallon!

Three of us began our meal in the bar prior to the restaurant portion's opening. The wine by the glass list is exceptional. A Manhattan was well-made and flavorful. We also had a cheese plat and, while good, the cuts of cheese were a bit small.

Dinner was exceptional. Each of has lobster stew from the small plates section. The lobster claws were tender and flavorful. The baby potatoes were perfectly al dente. The star of the dish was the lobster bisque. We also ordered the red abalone and gnocchi. I often find abalone is bland, but this lightly crusted slice had full abalone flavor. The kale caesar salad was fairly large, beautifully presents layered on a rectangular place, with the perfect amount of dressing and topped with shaved parmesan cheese and anchovie fillets.

I found the manager to be lacking in social graces and the host at the front desk incredibly rude. When I asked for a table I was told I would need to wait an hour and twenty minutes as they were all filled up for the night. I was directed to eat at the loud bar. I sat down and booked a reservation online using OpenTable. I found a reservation open 15 mins later. The host didn't believe me and was very rude about the entire thing. I alerted the manager who could careless and likely rewards the man for his rude behavior. It was as if they wanted to create an exclusive feel to the place.
The food was nothing special either. I ordered the Dungeness crab which was burned and overcooked. It tasted awful. My wife had a great meal and really enjoyed her food. I was happy about that.
Dessert was weird at best. It looked great but tasted odd. It was some sort of marshmallow pop-rock walnut thing that the server recommended. It was not worth it...
I would not waste my hard earned money here again.

What a huge disappointment! We have a timeshare on Union Square and have had dinner here 4 times thinking it must be good having survived for so long. Nope it just isn't, the food is just, "ok", the service was awful and the menu selections are terrible. It just is not worth the money. Plan better go right down the street and eat at Morton's they never disappoint

Farallon is celebrating their 20th anniversary and they clearly have earned their success. The dining room decor never tires, the food is truly delicious and the wine list is excellent. Farallon has long been a favorite of ours whenever we visit San Francisco

Started with an Oysters sampler and then ordered 6 more of the Komodo's as these were extremely fresh and delicious! We shared a house salad and then went to our main course. The dinners were perfectly prepared and with the excellent service, 5 stars all the way! Great place!!!

Too expensive and limited menu. I was told the pork dish was served "medium well" What? Who would recommend that? Perhaps the server didn't know the difference. I ordered it medium rare and it was still overcooked.

Steps away from Union Square, Farallon benefits from its retro elegance: sinuous booths spread across an expansive dining floor lit by marvelous jellyfish lamps. Some may rightly complain that the menu here is unduly limited, with only a handful of appetizers and entrees on offer, but the preparation is startlingly good. The ubiquitous petrale sole arrives as a kind of pyramid of fish and vegetable complements, while the lobster stew is a tasty variation of traditional cioppino. Service is pleasant and the restaurant as a whole refreshingly unpretentious, but prices conform to the usual too-high San Francisco standard.

Slow service. Had to make multiple requests for water and bread. Pork chop was tasteless and had difficulty cutting it with a steak knife. My duck may have expired of old age, that was one tough bird. Place could use a face lift-- replace worn upholstery, replace battered looking bathroom fixtures. The lighting is magical. It truly is one of the most beautifully designed restaurants in SF, I would go back for the atmosphere but not the food.

My business colleague is from Australia. It was his birthday and he loves seafood, so I chose Farallon. I told them in advance that we were celebrating a birthday. Upon arrival they presented him with a birthday card, and Happy Birthday was written in chocolate on the desert plate with a candle. Amazing service and attention to detail. Great evening.

The service and the food were outstanding. The “Happy Hour” - which lasts for two hours - is one of the best food and drink bargains in the city - 6 oysters for $7! The maitre de has put together a great list of reasonably priced wines.

Read a lot of mixed reviews but decided to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt. We were told to wait at the bar when we arrived. I ordered two alcoholic drinks and a water and soda. Was told she had seven drinks ahead of me and I would have to wait. When we were shown our table, I mentioned we had placed an order for drinks as a courtesy. When the waiter arrived and asked, I told them I had placed an order for drinks as a courtesy. Half an hour from when I ordered the drinks, they arrived. After our bottle of wine for the evening. The waiter however was spot on and his service was excellent. But it felt like he could only juggle so many balls in the air at one time. I grew up in San Francisco and know it well. The food had a few hits (charred abalone, octopus) but overall lacked any impressive nature to the dishes. We were not shy to experiment ordering half the appetizers on the menu, half the entree's, and half the desserts. but the gnocchi with the abalone was just mush. The dungenous crab far from fresh. The pork belly, kimchi, and dungenous crab combo confused me. Love the idea (why I ordered it) but for me the experience was a piece of fat, pickled vegetable slices, and crab that had no firmness left. Except for our waiter, the whole experience felt like everyone was going through the motions. At a price point of pushing 200 per person, the walkaway should be one of "Bravo".
