Jason, the head chef, was very polite and out going talking to us while in full dinner service!
Big disappointment. I happen to enjoy good food and looked forward to having a delicious seafood dinner This restaurant did not meet expectations. My husband and I had the three course meal. Only three choices of fish, one of them it was necessary to pick out the bones, according to the sommelier. Extremely noisy with patrons wearing jeans tee shirts and hats. What has happened to fine dining?? In all fairness, it was the holiday season so some of the noise, dress and noise was to be expected but why not at least a good meal??
Wonderful dining experience! From the time we walked in we were well taken care of. We enjoyed a couple bottles of wine from their extensive wine list along with the four course menu. The food was delicious and well presented. The abalone bisque was unbelievable! I would highly recommend this restaurant and we look forward to dining there again.
everything was great but the noise was rather loud. couldn't really have a conversation with my friend across the table. overall was a good experience.
Had amazing night with my future wife 14 years ago. Nostalgia brought us back and really disappointed.
Service and food was bland and distracted. Much louder than I remember. And a hot plate with my steak is not much to ask. Basic courtesies of fine dining were completely neglected. Whole experience was a let down.
The portions were tiny, the waitress kept interrupting our conversation, we were placed at a table that was at an odd angle at what seemed like an isle, even though the place wasn't busy. The bathroom mirror frame is huge, and it was filthy! It was a dingy place, and over priced.
Incredible experience. Food, service, sommelier, atmosphere...all top notch. A beautiful evening.
Great meal! Great service! Great evening!
Very elegant, nice for special occasion. Service was impeccable
Very good meal. Chose the 4 course fix. Selection was enough. The portions area generous so could have done 3 course. Had the 1/2 glass wine pairing and Luke was great. Did a wonderful pairing. Didn't feel rushed and the services was great.
Farallon has been a favorite of ours for a decade. Alas, no more. The restaurant is moving to a prix fixe structure, which we don’t like. We don’t typically eat 3 or 4 courses. You are allowed to order a la carte, but the portions have been reduced in size. Also, there is a smaller selection of fish. Additionally, we ordered Turbot on our last visit, but weren’t advised that it was on the bone. Actually, it was mostly bone. To sum up, Farallon is changing in ways we don’t like. And they were off their game that night.
Arrived using a cane, and they took us up a long curved stair way to an empty room. Arrived at 5:30 telling them we had 7 o’clock theater tickets. By 620 we still had not been served. Asked for check and dessert to go since we had to pay for. We usually would not order dessert but was not aware they only have a fixed-price menu. Another minus! First time we have been there since it first opened over twenty years ago. It will be another twenty years, if ever, before returning.
Too expensive for the quality. The waitress was very cold and not friendly. I expected better for the price.
I won't come back.
The seafood options and ambience are definitely something you want to share with friends and family. Yes, it’s expensive so be prepared to drop some dough.
Great flexible menu. Each dish had complex flavors. Wonderful ambiance and service
We did not remember spending nearly this much the last time we went to Farallon a couple of years ago. True, this time we had 2 glasses of champagne instead of one, and two mocktails, and we spent $70 on the addl caviar starter which wasn't anything to write home about. But after a 20% tip, we had a bill of over $400 for the two of us. The food was very good, but not over the top amazing. So if we went again, no caviar for sure, and we'd be careful about only one drink... even if it is our anniversary. The sable fish was very good, tender, delicious sauce and good accompaniments. I thought the scallops were not as good as the ones I make at home (seared with butter, vinegar and mushroom sauce) so was glad I didn't order them, but my husband enjoyed them. The lemon tart was a perfect ending. Even though tiny, I took half of it home because I was already stuffed. The Acme WW sourdough bread was to die for but you can buy that locally. Service from Hana our server was top notch. Atmosphere in the back room is always fun.
It was wonderful - servers very attentive and knowledgeable. Fun ambiance!
Fish was outstanding and starters delicious ,
It’s a fix prix menu so 3 courses are required or the raw bar
Lovely dinner with good service. It was a little pricey, but quite good with beautiful interior ambience. Close to theatres and shopping in Union Square.
We went to Farallon for an anniversary because it was close to our hotel and looked to have the ambiance we wanted for a romantic evening. The food was good (but not inexpensive) , the service was excellent, and the ambiance was exactly what we were looking for.
Wonderful staff, incredible food, insightful wine list, and uniquely lovely design
Cost was $80 PP+all SF fees. Had 3 glasses of wine and cost for 2 people was over $300. Delicious but a bit pricey.
Waiter and especially the wine staff was very attentive, even though this is known as a seafood restaurant I had one of the best filets ever. The ingredients were all fresh and the salad was innovative.
Quite possibly one of the best meals I've had. Highly recommend the Chanterelle and Truffle risotto.
I haven't dined at Farallon in a few years and I have to say I like the Prix Fixe menu concept.
Dined on Saturday to celebrate my friend's birthday. We were seated in a spacious booth and my guest was presented with a welcome card from Farallon to acknowledge his birthday. That was a very nice touch. Our sweet server was extremely patient as we were busy catching up.
The courses were amazing and I can't choose just one as a stand out because they all were!
Must try - for 1st course the Bolognese with housemade spaghetti and the handrolled gnocchi with champagne poached oysters. The Mains were filet of beef with escargot! and the sablefish with red crab!
We were quite full with all the richness and the only dish we could not finish is the desserts.
I would recommend the lounge but not the primary dining.
Great value for a quality meal. Perfect place for theatre meal. Excellent service and nice variety of menu.
The restaurant design is still one of the most interesting with the fantasy chandeliers, handrails & decoration in SF but a little old looking & dated. Food was interesting & creative -totally an awesome dining experience.
Third time being here and this place never disappoints. A great elevated dining experience!
Although we had to have help understanding the menu, everything we ordered was super good. The waiter was very helpful and knowledgeable. Reservations a must
The food is Michelin Star Fantastic! Unassuming. High quality. Excellent Sommelier. Excellent Bartender. Highly recommend for foodies, wine lovers, and those seeking chic setting.
Inventive and delicious. And they are very accommodating. We were celebrating my husband’s birthday and they made us feel very special. It’s a riot seeing the engineers in jeans and t-shirts at this elegant eatery. And it’s drop dead gorgeous!
Fantastic fine dining, great service and wonderful atmosphere
Service was superb! Our server was so attentive, knowledgeable and anticipatory of all of our needs. The bread and herbed butter combo was yummy and the martini was terrific! We also chose unusual dishes and were amply rewarded with new, complex and wonderful tastes.
Excellent service and food in a unique older setting with numerous semi circle booth options. Love the menu style of selecting a 3 or 4 course meal or a variety of seafood options. Also love that they have a sommelier. Food was excellent and dessert was extra special. The chef’s presentation style and mix of flavors was top notch.
Our dinner was phenomenal. They didn't rush our pace and the raw bar appetizers were just divine. Please try the deviled egg... amazing balance of creamy and savory. I had the risotto... delicious, rich and sumptuous. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Our Farallon experience generally was excellent. The only hiccup was that the server did not process our OpenTable reward coupon properly and told us that the coupon was expired. We had to talk to OpenTable later to find out that the reward coupon had not been entered for processing. Otherwise Farallon was outstanding.
Excellent food and great service and great wine we will return anytime
Incredible ambiance and amazing food. The only thing that I could see being better are the desserts, but I would not hesitate on coming back. Outstanding place!
