It was just lovely! We keep coming back every year around the holidays since the kitchen staff is truly on point with clientele who have performances to get to after dinner. Our waiter was exceptional, as always!
This experience was a letdown vs my last visit. Server was very slow. I had to ask for her to be sent over to our table after waiting over 10 minutes of our drinks being served because she had not returned to take our order. This slow service continued all throughout the meal.
The sole entree was good but the bed of Brussels sprouts was like warm at best. I think it had sat a while waiting for the sole to be prepared.
After a 5 star experience last visit, this was a big letdown. My mistake was not asking for Kristen, the fantastic server I had last time. I did see her and told her next time I come back I was definitely getting seated at her table.
My date said it was the best meal she’s ever eaten! Thanks
Some of the best foods I've ever had! WOW. What an amazing place. Definitely a GO!
Recommended by hotel to visit this restaurant. They have some selection of seafood, but rather limited. Seems they are more into oyster, which may appeal to others. A so so restaurant , sepecially for the price.
Can’t wait to be back
Christmas holiday dinner
This restaurant is in a great location. The building and Ambience are wonderful. The food is just okay the portions are extremely small and it is very very expensive.
Quite simply outstanding in every respect, especially the creative and lovely decor that makes you feel you are in a sea grotto.
Our service was friendly and efficient. The salad courses were well prepared. I had the “sablefish” which was lost in the artichoke dressing. My companion had the other fish dish and said it was very good. Being right on Union Square the prices are on the high side but it is extremely convenient to the theatres so we will be back
Top notch fresh seafood, energetic atmosphere, with polished, professional service. I had indicated we are dining at Farallon as a birthday treat for my wife, and the entire experience felt like a celebration. The memorable experience came with a price, but was worth every dollar. I would highly recommend this as the best seafood restaurant in The City.
Farallon is our favorite Christmas in the city restaurant.
The service is impeccable, oysters are a must, I had duck that was amazing
Great desserts, great wine list.
Always a must. It is a little pricey but you do get your moneys worth.
Had a memorable meal. Tried ingredients we've never tasted before. All great. I recommend the cauliflower sea urchin soup and the scallops with squid ink risotto. Yum.
We were in SF and had been here before. We had a wonderful visit again. The food was delicious, especially the cauliflower soup. The sommelier was knowledgeable and recommended some moderate priced wines. Nice not to be oversold.
We had a very disappointing experience where the restaurant seemed to have forgotten about us. On Friday, November 30, my friend and I tried to fine at your restaurant. Shortly after arriving, our server took our drink order and at that time, we told him that we had an 8 o’clock performance to attend and we’d like to order.. we gave him our 3 appetizer orders and our 2 entree orders. We only received 1 appetizer (flight of oysters) and we got bread - but only after asking for it. My friend and I were engaged with in conversation when we realized it was 7:43 and we hadn’t received the rest of our appetizers, not to mention our entrees. I spoke with the Manager or Sommelier (?) and asked if we could quickly just get our entrees and cancel the rest of the appetizers. He said that wasn’t possible since the kitchen was working in our appetizers( how long does it take to compose your house salad?). It returned to the table to discuss our situation and we decided to leave. If the there was a back-up in the kitchen, the server should’ve relayed that to us given our time constraints. Many people came to our table but they were all different people. No wonder the kitchen forgot our food! It was a horrible experience and not to the expected standard for a San Francisco stalwart restaurant. As much as I love the caviar at your establishment, I think this is the last time I’ll be dining at your establishment.
Great place to celebrate special moments with family.
Chase, our server made the 200 mile drive worth it. We have been dining here for over 20 years and it is as consistent you can ask for. My bride’s petrole sole and my sable fish were perfectly prepared. Chase suggested a Pinot Blanc blend that was scrumptious and well paired. My chocolate torte and my wife’s butternut squash ice cream were fine finishes. Once again we were well satisfied.
The menu is limited, but most of it is very good. Oysters are a treat, particularly if you go between 4:30 and 5:30 and sit at the oyster bar and enjoy happy hour prices for certain drinks, oysters, and certain appetizers. Bread is delicious, but you have to ask for more to get more. The wine list is incredible, but it is too high priced for the quality of the wine. Too many California wines, but good selection of French wines makes up for it.
The food is okay at best. It’s one of those places that rely on the hype of being a five star. If you like over cooked food that’s under portioned with a simi-decent presentation delivered by an waitress who thrives on belittling multiple tables (not just ours), then this is the place to go.
Great place to spend a lot of money on great seafood.
My husband and I had fruits de mer for starter. They were delicious. Oysters, clams, tiger prawns, Dungeness crab. Super fresh!
I had the corvina on risotto in squid ink. Best tasting fish I ever had! My husband wasn't so thrilled with his petrale. Somehow he didn't think it's tasty.
The desserts were great! Had the apple fritter and my husband had the ice cream sandwich!
Our server and the rest of the crew was very pleasant and accommodating!
Will definitely go back!
Farallon is fantastic, beautiful and a must if you’re near Union Square. The food is excellent yet can veer on the bland side, so don’t hesitate to ask for crushed pepper or sea salt. The small starters were excellent and in fact more inventive than the entrees, which I find common in high end restaurants in San Francisco. It’s as if they let younger assistant chefs who might be more creative like an assistant fashion editor Or even an assistant director on an experimental film. Perhaps this is not true at all and only a wild misperception. Be that as it may, if intimate with your dining partner, perhaps try several of the smaller shared/splitting appetizers is maybe the way to go.
Service was outstanding. Food fresh, inventive and tasty.
We had a blast but at same time elegant experience
Nice decor, good food & service.
We had a lovely evening! Everything we ate was delicious!
My overall experience was outstanding. The only hiccup was the wait for a table. I don’t mind waiting a few minutes, but if there is a delay, I prefer to be kept informed. I was notified about the delay right before I was seated, but several minutes after the time I was originally given. Other than that, I was very pleased. The service was top notch and the food was tasty and well prepared; Michelin quality for sure. Brody, the server, was great and appeared to treat each of his tables like family. The sommelier took time explaining the wine and even provided a lesson on the area where the wine originated. That kind of service is equal or better than the Michelin 3 star restaurants where I have dined. When I left, I had enjoyed a fine dining experience and not just a meal! I plan on returning every time I am in SF. Thank you Farallon for a memorable evening.
Everything was perfect!
Not what I expected in celebration of my BIG 50th. Waiters were a bit indifferent. My fish was raw and at the end of the meal was when they asked me how it was. Too late to have it done right. No celebration despite that I wore a tiara with 50 on it. I just got some chocolate truffles on a dish and at the end of my meal and that was it. Honestly...being a tourist in this city, I expected more. Not really too impressed.
My wife and I have eaten at many great restaurants and this ranks with the best!
Enjoyed a fantastic dinner with a few business associates at Farallon. Started with the tiger shrimp appetizer, which arrived with 5 very large shrimp (U10 or U12 if I had to guess) and a nice peanut sauce. For an entree, I enjoyed sole that was cooked perfectly and topped with a huckleberry sauce that complemented both the fish and the brussel sprouts/bacon accompaniment. The great food plus a nice wine list and good service makes this an easy recommendation.
My ABSOLUTE favorite restaurant in San Fran.... and this is weighed against a number of other world class San Fran restaurants.
It is the one and only place I repeatedly go to when visiting San Fran.
wonderful meal, service and experience. well done!
elegant ambiance and cuisine, easy access and parking
Ambiance is impeccable!
Food flavors great as usual
Octopus appetizer fabulous
Wine/champagne service great
Incredible desserts as expected
The food and service were impeccable. My first time there and will going back as soon as I can. The salad was fantastic. Seared tuna entree was one of the best I have ever had. And the apple fritter was tasty. To top it off the entire waitstaff was first class, notably the server. She was amazing.
It is a beautiful restaurant but the experience this time was quite disappointing.
Hi. This was my husband's favorite place, so I took some family there for a special occasion. Wow! I didn't remember it being so expensive. Food, venue, service all outstanding, but the cost was surprisingly prohibitive (and I dine at places like One Market, Boulevard, Waterbar, etc.).
Good service, good food. The bar is small but the restaurant is large.
