A bit pricey, but expected as much. Very good service very good food. Well presented. Staff all very polite and professional. What you expect with a fine dining experience. It’s all here.
Farallon is a very special night-out: It is far from cheap but its quality in every aspect one expects of a fine restaurant makes it a "bargain."
Farallon is, quite simply, my favorite restaurant. The service is incredible and very caring. The food is delicious and lovingly prepared. And, they have my very favorite butter in the world. My friend and I dine there every couple of months before attending plays at the SF Playhouse, which is just upstairs, and never tire of it. Plus, they have valet parking, which makes life easy. The ambiance is incredible and the perfect place to go for a special event or date.
I’m a repeat customer. It’s just a great well rounded venue: great menu selection, beautiful decor, friendly and attentive service and reasonably priced. Finally, parking is never a big issue.
Service gets worse after 7 pm. We had a take out of two different dishes, steak with bone marrow and the pork pasta and they had it to go in one box and threw out the sides (very good wild mushrooms)
We love the place and always get our favorite table. Mahalo, from Hawaii
Food and service were both excellent. All seafood were cooked to perfection, exactly the way we like seafood done. Service was very attentive but not overly bearing. Their Acme bread is out of this world. Made us want to go out and buy some right after dinner. I would recommend this restaurant to our friends and family that has a budget for this quality of seafood.
Fabulous meal, great service. Good special occasion place.
Beautiful Restaurant!! I love the ocean... so the ambience is amazing and the food is exquisite.
Excellent seafood. My wife ordered the butterfish and she thoroughly enjoyed it. The taste was light and savory. I had the lobster and it was cooked just right, not the usual overcooked lobster at other restaurant. The desserts where heavenly. The pistachio ice cream tasted just like fresh pistachios and the cheesecake had just the right amount of sweetness that didn’t make it too rich. Overall it is now one of our top restaurants to go to when we decide to have dinner in the city.
As always the food was delicious. Excellent fish, well presented. Outstanding deserts. Service was attentive and a lovely booth was quiet and good for conversation.
If I lived closer, I would eat here at least once a month. As it is, I try to stop in every time I'm in San Francisco. The food is consistently great, but it is the decor, ambiance and service that keeps me coming back. Truly a beautiful restaurant and always a special experience.
Fantastic layout and decor. Prices were high but in SF, not shockingly high. The service was top notch.
The fish was underwhelming. The Sommelier was awesome as was the wine. The interior is stunning. Probably more value in the happy hour.
Farallon remains a San Francisco favorite for fish. With an ever-changing innovative menu and a reasonably priced wine list, Farallon is my "go to" place for a business dinner or a romantic dinner. Located just off Union Square, great location. Happy Hour food and drink from 5-6 offers an inexpensive way to sample the tasty cocktails and food without spending a fortune.
Had gone in the past. Took clients two nights in a row, cancelled reservation for the 3rd night.
Poor service /not enough staff
Food was cold
Steak was terrible.
I used to like going to this place.
Sablefish was tender and not fishy at all. Wonderful flavors that it was marinated in. I’m not a huge fish fan due to fishy flavor but I’d have that again in a second. The sides were equally delicious.
The tenderloin had the most amazing flavor and was a tender as butter. Great sides again.
Be sure to eat the bread with the cultured butter and Hawaiian clay salt (we literally asked what is was because it was so delicious and the wonderful waiter brought us the butter in it’s wrapper so we could buy it at home)
Would be my first place again when we come to San Fran. Thoroughly impressed. Beautiful ambiance and service.
The sommelier directed us to a lovely wine that was a nice in between of a Pinot and trialing. Sweet enough for me but not too sweet for my bf. No bitter aftertaste. (Heidler was the wine)
Food is so so excellent, we brought nice bottles that they corked for us at the restaurant and the food and all of the desserts were delicious. It was my sister and I's birthdays that weekend and they brought out two complimentary desserts for us that were also delicious
Birthday celebration! Hi
Small food portions that were over and under cooked.
Still find Farallon to be a wonderful experience, but the food was not that warm and lacked a bit of flavor. While the underwater theme is what makes the restaurant special, it could use a bit of an upgrade. The service was excellent.
Great food beautiful restaurant fabulous service
Disappointed by food. Ordered Lobster that was served cold. Mashed potatoes were lukewarm. Husband's steak was rather tough. Money paid did not justify the quality of food. However, our waiter was top notch and the ambiance is awesome.
Jesse our waiter was awesome. Knowledgeable, friendly and patient!
Good but for the price, not a standout.
Exceptional atmosphere with great wine list and food. If you haven’t had the experience you are missing something.
I sat up at the bar and had wonderful oysters, a mixed green salad, and tender perfectly cooked burger. I also had a wonderful happy hour cabernet and a glass of champagne on the house.
The service was impeccable and I could not have had a better experience.
Excellence in seafood, with friendly helpful staff from the sommelier to the busboy who talked cooking with us and gave us a sample of Hawaiian black salt. A perfect dining experience. Highest reccomendation
A worthy splurge. Everything on the menu challenged me a little to step out of my comfort zone vis a vis my “usual suspects” ingredients. And Farallon made it SO rewarding to take that little step! The abalone chowder was out of the world delicious; a bowl dense with texture, flavor and a little heat. And the griddled sable fish! My new favorite fish in a brilliantly tasty layered, textured presentation. The restaurant is beautiful, OTT confection, a dreamy marine fantasy. The cuisine and the setting merit special occasion status so I will definitely be back for special occasions.
This was our anniversary dinner. The Kumamoto oysters, sablefish and the crab Louis salad were excellent. We appreciate the happy anniversary card from your staff too.
Food always interesting & pretty & creative & yummy...BUT once home, 45 mins later, quick stomach RUMBLING started & then strong CRAMPS, then maximally explosive D - - - - - - -. After a few minutes, the VOLCANO ended. Long hot shower calmed as well, then to sleep. Now 24 hours later & still alive & no reoccurrence. I guess it passed through. No SF DPH report I guess?
Was it their calms or mussels...?
Haven’t had anything like this in 20+ years since my Mexico & Brazil jungle trips...
It is always a pleasure to dine at Farallon. When I am staying near Union Square I always make a point of dining at this restaurant.
Great food - beautiful surf and turf. The wait stuff was awesome. Overall, great experience.
Food was pretty average.
this is the first time I have been to Farallon. All three of us thought it was superb, beautiful restaurant
Grilled octopus and nori wrapped tuna was delicious!
Food was outstanding. Service was noticeably bad compared to what we paid for the meal.
Beautiful room. Outstanding service. Really small portions. Really expensive. Noisy.
Great food but our female server was unfriendly and so mean ... the wait staff who got our water and the sommelier were wonderful. I actually saw our waitress roll her eyes at us when we said we weren’t going to order dessert and I’m not sure why she was so unpleasant. She made a point of asking us if we were from the MidWest (which we were, here for a conference) but not sure why that made her suddenly treat us so poorly.
Food was great, seafood was fresh, and the experience would have been excellent if not for our server. So if you don’t mind a server who has an oyster shoved up her butt, Farallon is decent.
