Farallon is a feast for the eyes and usually the mouth. A couple misses tonight. We allowed 2 hours for an early dinner. Apparently our entrees had an accident and had to be redone. The swordfish was hot, but way oversalted as was the sauce. We asked for still water ( the only options given being sparkling or still) and instead of tap water were charged for bottles of spring water at $17). The table next to us later was offered tap water as an option. Our waiter disappeared just into dinner service although one of the floor managers provided attentive service. We ended up literally running for an 8pm show, due to the delays. A 5% health surcharge was added to the bill. With entrees upwards of $42, you'd think that could cover employee costs. Tonight was a miss.

Spent Valentines Dinner w/ theater after. Wonderful atmosphere, wait staff, food, ambiance. Let our server know we had theater tickets and she timed our meal perfectly. Will be back when we can spend more luxurious time. We loved it!

Had a wonderful dinner at Farallon in honor of my father’s birthday. The service was outstanding and I really appreciate the custom vegetarian entree from the sous chef.

It's a nice place to have dinner, with an eccentric decoration. Food and service were excelent, but a little expensive. It was a little too noisy for me.

Farallon was great, as always. My abalone chowder appetizer and sablefish entree were outstanding, and the service impeccable. I try to have dinner here at least once whenever I am in San Francisco.

Chose it for the fish, and didn't lose in that. Started out with happy hour in the bar, with perfectly created mixed fish ceviche. Daquiri fixed to perfection, red wine nicely poured. Didn't forget about us, and came to get us when table ready. Service nicely personal, not overwhelming, recommendations solid, and food very, very good. Will go back, and recommend to others.

I went to the Farallon for a business dinner based on a review from an executive dining guide and I was disappointed with the quality of the food. For the price, I expected more of a fine dining experience but the Farallon seems to be more on the quick production side of things. I had the Ceviche for an appetizer and the fish was very good but the dish was a little bit on the spicy side and it was served with pork rinds, which I thought was odd for fine dining. I had the sole for my entrée but the sauce was very overwhelming. My colleague ordered the Oysters for an appetizer and the Swordfish for the entrée and she seemed to have better luck with her meal, which is the only reason I gave the overall experience a good rating. But for me, I felt like I just didn't get the value for what I got.

The appetizers were excellent. Table service was spotty. The yellowtail was the fishiest piece of fish I've been served in decades, if ever. It was just this side of disgusting. The room was nothing short of spectacular, with those sea-themed vaulted ceilings. I'll give them a mul ligan on the fish, but not on the service.

Anniversary Dinner for 2 was excellent. Responsive staff relocated us to a quieter, more romantic table at our request. Outstanding sommelier offered great wine selections. The food service was timed well. The food was delicious and with unique flavors. Outstanding ambiance with memorable room decorum. Highly recommended.

Really enjoyed our delicious meal. Smaller menu which was power packed. Only issue was we asked for an extra ounce of tuna and they charged us for a double order without saying so.

Dependably wonderful seafood and elegant ambance for our early pre Ballet dinner. Oysters perfect, abalone chowder and baked cod recommended. Nice wine list, and attentive, helpful service. A favorite place for special evenings in the City.

you should have more control over the sitting at the Oyster bar. We tried to sit there while waiting for our reservation to be ready but a lady was sitting there and had about 4 sits reserved for her friends while we had no place to sit to get a drink and order some oysters before our dinner reservation was ready. I did not appreciate to have my wife standing waiting on our Anniversary.

Not as impressed as many of the reviews that I based my selection on. Rather limited menu that I would have thought meant they had optimized each dish. Salad was overwhelmed with dressing and fish was partially under cooked. Not what I expect from what is billed as a high end restaurant. I would not revisit and could not recommend.

We were very disappointed having eaten here many times before. Our fish was over cooked, we sent it back and our scallop appetizer was not great. The manager was very accommodating, paid for our drinks and took the entrees off the bill. We left and ate perfeclty cooked trout at Bluestem Brasserie.

The waiter could of told us the lobster was going to be served cold. He could of said more about the selection of food before and not after we ordered. The menu selection was very limited !! We were celebrating a bday and thought our dining experience with the food and service would be a memorable bday dinner.

I selected Farallon as it's close to the hotel where my out-of-town friends were staying. I hadn't been there for years, but remembered liking it. It definitely didn't disappoint. My friend commented on the ceiling and the waitress explained the history of the building and that the ceiling was the original ceiling above the still operating Elks' Club pool and spa. She was also very attentive, explained the menu, made great suggestions. Overall, a great dining experience! I will definitely be back!

Previously liked this place
Unhappy with this visit
Appetizer labeled Maine lobster was actually gnocchi with little bits of lobster
Swordfish worst ever- mushy rather than steak - likely frozen and thawed - tasted lousy

As usual, Farallon offers an excellent dining experience. The staff is friendly and helpful. The menu changes frequently so each day could be a different experience. They do not have a large variety on the menu for the above reason but the meals are prepared and served in an excellent manner. Farallon would be a great place to dine for any occasion.
