Had dinner there on 9/18....food was horrible. Very limited menu. Shrimp chowder had shrimp WITH the shells on them.....the sole was oily and was returned as was both of our meals.
Manager tried to make things right.....we ended up splitting a fillet mignon....was just fair.
Last time here. Rediculously expensive.

We ate our anniversary dinner here and we couldn't have been more pleased. The oysters were amazing and the salmon perfectly cooked. Their wine and champagne list is extensive and our server was helpful. We came back the next day for their happy hour oysters. Worth it!!! Best seafood around and the ambiance is amazing.

My fourth time this year! It never disappoints. We took a family friend from Carmel who, of course, loves seafood. And she loved her dinner. And we loved ours.

Good food overall, but the average price is not justified. The service is impeccable, atmosphere great and the decor is outstanding. A meal with wine will set you back at least $100 per person, so unless someone else is picking up the tab, I'd probably look for other options in San Francisco.

Excellent service - highly attentive without being overbearing. Food was wonderful, though there were not many choices on the menu if you did not like seafood. That said the food was excellent and the environment was very nice, and service was exceptional.

My fiancé and I had just arrived in SF and it was our last night together before I flew back to Australia. We admit we weren’t dressed as nicely as some in the restaurant but my fiancé was looked up and down several times and made to feel very conspicuous. My fiancé wanted some lobster and online reviews said this was the place to be. The food was very good. Not outstanding but good. It was expensive but the interior of the restaurant has to be experienced. I wouldn’t go back but must make it clear it was the attitude of some of the waitstaff rather than the food

Overpriced wine list even for this type of upscale restaurant. $75 for a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc?
Our main courses took 70 minutes from ordering till they were served. One was ice cold, another, crab, was mushy.
Their apology was that too many diners ordered at once!
They need more kitchen staff at prime time.
They apologized and only charged us for drinks, but our special evening was ruined.

My wife and I have eaten at the Farallon many times. We were really looking forward to it the night of our reservation. Our waiter was terrible. He was not friendly. He presented as if he was forced to be there. He would disappear for great lengths of time. Where we are use to having our drinks either refilled or replaced, wine, once we are done it took flagging down a busboy to do so that evening. I felt we got better service at a chain restaurant than yours. We visit San Francisco a couple of times a year. I really don't plan eating at your establishment again. This was a very disappointing visit!

Every time I am reminded of just how special Farallon is! I don't think I've had better service in any other SF restaurant. If you are looking for a fine dining experience that specializes in exquisite presentation, fresh seafood, and excellent service....THIS is the spot! But above all, what makes me want to come back again and again is how genuine each and every person working there is to make it your best meal...from the manager to the waiter to support staff...they get an A+ for authenticity!

This is sad to write - have been coming to Farallon 3 or 4 times a year for 10+ years and it looks like this restaurant is past its best now. Until this visit, we have always enjoyed great service and really good food - but this time was pretty bad. Firstly, its noticeable now that the decor hasnt been updated in quite a while - things are looking a little tired and shabby. Secondly, every course I received was lukewarm temperature at best - I put that partly down to there being few staff on this night, and Im guessing our order sat on the pass for some time after cooking. Even so, I had a steak on this occasion that was overly charred on the outside, tasting of fuel, and over cooked for a medium. My sticky toffee pudding had plenty of sticky, as the sauce was glutinous and (again) lukewarm but completely lacked taste. The manager came over and apologized - they took some items off the bill, which was decent of them, but it was my wifes birthday and the occasion was pretty much spoiled by now. Will be quite some time before we venture back, if ever.

Excellent food and service in a beautiful setting - a Kuleto-renovated early 1920s Elks Club building. The main dining room is under a painted ceiling with arches, formerly the swimming pool. Lovely ambience - and you can actually have a conversation. Great location in the theater district.

It was my birthday dinner that a friend of ours suggested we go to. We felt that for the quality of the food we could have gone elsewhere and saved a lot of money. The staff was great and on top of it when we found a long piece of hair with the filet. They went above and beyond but still feel we could have made the meal ourselves at a fraction of the price. No wow factor.

I've been coming to Farallon since it opened in the 90s. At first, I thought it was just another San Francisco trendy restaurant. But over the years, it has grown into an exceedingly excellent place to eat for almost any occasion.

The menu is seafood focused, but has options for almost any food preference.

The Fruits de Mer platter is always excellent. In my most recent visit, the smoked muscles blew the table's collective mind/palette. It was outrageously good... and totally unexpected.

The wait-staff is always ready to make a recommendation... and the recommendations have always hit the spot.

During this visit, we enjoyed a martini with blue cheese stuffed olives. It was possibly the best martini I've ever had.

Farallon is priced competitively with other high end San Francisco restaurants... but below the absurd prices that the "experiential dining" places change. Cost per person including wine, cocktails, tip, tax, etc. was < $200/person... far less than we paid at Nightbird the following night.

If you're going out for a special occasion, a high end business meal, or just need some relaxing/pampering, Farallon is a swimmingly good choice.

Farallon remains one of San Francisco's best fine dining restaurants. The cooking and service are excellent, and we very much enjoy the ambiance of the main dining room. Our gnocchi and pork belly appetizer was outstanding and perfect to be shared for a wonderful taste to begin the meal. As a seafood restaurant, I would have appreciated more seafood offerings, however. My wife ended up ordering duck while I had the scallops, which were not the best I have ever had. Wine prices are quite high and the selection by the glass offers little to explore. Overall, Farallon remains on my list of SF restaurants but I was disappointed with several aspects of this recent meal.

I've been to Farallon many times and you can always count on a great meal there and until now, an outstanding overall experience. This time, I brought my nine year-old daughter, who I had been pumping- up for Farallon. We were both disappointed when we were sat upstairs. My daughter didn't understand all of my "hype" and commented that it was too dark. She was right! In addition to the extreme darkness, the environment is bland and benign. Prior to this experience, I have always sat in the main dining room, where the vibe is exciting and robust. Now I'm concerned that I can not rely on a main dining room experience in the future, even with my husband. I will definitely clarify this when making future reservations.

Other than having to sit at a very small table, we enjoyed the restaurant. Several bigger tables were open but we were seated at a very small table. The other tables were seated with two or three people only. I just wondered the reasoning as to why we weren't seated at a regular table.

The Black Cod was wonderful. Fully melted. In your mouth. What happen, however, was that the kitchen brought out one dish not ordered. That ment, even though I had eaten a bite of my cod the waiter insisted that he take back then cod till the order was correct (the other order should have been sea bass) not a problem. We waited and then the food was brought out again: to my surprise it was my partially eaten Cod. Not replaced for their error but just reheated. Not acceptable. The oysters were fresh and sweet. Prices on the high side and friendly waiter service. The breads were wonderful.

Our server was non existent. Got order wrong and still paid for the error. Poured our own wine. Food was good but sitting next to the chef while he spoke down to his crew with the occasional foul language was not the what I had planned for our birthday dinner. The busser at our table should have been a waiter, as he was super attentive.
