wonderful meal, service and experience. well done!
elegant ambiance and cuisine, easy access and parking
Ambiance is impeccable!
Food flavors great as usual
Octopus appetizer fabulous
Wine/champagne service great
Incredible desserts as expected
The food and service were impeccable. My first time there and will going back as soon as I can. The salad was fantastic. Seared tuna entree was one of the best I have ever had. And the apple fritter was tasty. To top it off the entire waitstaff was first class, notably the server. She was amazing.
It is a beautiful restaurant but the experience this time was quite disappointing.
Hi. This was my husband's favorite place, so I took some family there for a special occasion. Wow! I didn't remember it being so expensive. Food, venue, service all outstanding, but the cost was surprisingly prohibitive (and I dine at places like One Market, Boulevard, Waterbar, etc.).
Good service, good food. The bar is small but the restaurant is large.
I had not been to the restaurant in a long time. I forgot how fantastic the food was and all the recommendations were spot on!
Love the variety of foods. Great service. Pricy but worth it.
Seafood was awesome!
Excellent service, very accommodating
It was ok. The inside of the restaurant looked about 50 years old but the food was ok, just pricey for the entire package. I think the main thing that factors into the price here is the location (union square).
Overall, food and service were good. Nice for a small dinner or bigger group.
One dish that was exceptional was the pork belly.
We love Farallon and come almost every time we visit San Francisco! The freshest of fish and shellfish that you will find. Beautiful interior design and decor as well. The service is also amazing. Would definitely recommend Farallon for a delicious and delightful dining experience!!
The service was really great. I preferred my dining partner's choices over mine, but the food was beautifully presented and quite good.
Front part of the restaurant ( bar) at happy hour best.
Dinner service needs lessons in class. For those prices it should have been a very high priority!
Our Petrole Sole I think, it wasn’t.
Tough as well. All 4 of us agree.
After a play good for a drink and oysters or cavier. Happy hour was reasonable.
Don’t do dinner.
Awful experience. Our bad we didn’t check the menu and we thought we could eat the large shellfish platter they used to offer. Just to find out that it wasn’t on the menu anymore. We decided to choose an entree.
I am dairy allergic and I asked if they could do the swordfish without dairy. The server answered in a very condescending tone that it would ruin the experience. So. He told me to get the tuna or the beef. I ended up getting the tuna although there was a side of risotto. Didn’t you hear what I said about not eating dairy.
I didn’t eat the side. Just the tuna which was ok. Overall experience and service substandard. I used to love Farallon. Most likely will not go again.
Farallon has returned to its former status; excellent food and service. Over the years we have had average meals but our most recent experiences have been great.
The custom cocktail list was very impressive, and the one I tried was awesome, the service was top notch and the dishes were all above our expectations. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a great seafood restaurant with good choices!
Nice dinner a good setting for s productive meeting!!
Fabulous service and everything on the menu was fabulous.
Great food and fun atmosphere! The crab chowder was outstanding and the filet was delicious. Great service as well. Highly recommend.
I’ve been wanting to try Farallon for many years and finally had my chance Saturday night with two other couples from out of town. I’d heard and read so many good things that maybe my expectations were too high.
We were seated promptly to a table next to the kitchen which was extra noisy but kind of fun to watch the staff.
It took nearly 20 minutes until a waiter showed up and took our drink orders. Then another 20 to take our food orders.
Once the food order went in, it came out pretty fast. Surprisingly fast! I ordered the pork belly appetizer that was fantastic. Almost melted in your mouth. Everyone else had the Uni Ceaser salads that they enjoyed. The dressing was creamy and buttery, not too salty.
Three of us ordered the sword fish and the cook was inconsistent on each. Mine was over and a bit tough. Didn’t expect to cut it with my knife. The sides were an odd combination of flavors. Baby turnips and mushy gritty cabbage.
My husband loves seared tuna but this serving was grey, barely visible sear marks and a 1 1/2” thick slab of raw tuna.
We took a chance in dessert and this is where they really fell down. Pear tarts were small and dry. The snicker doodle pana cotta was flavorless and my bignets (3) were a little smaller than the size of a tennis ball and just a lump of cooked dough. Not light and airy like you’d expect. It was served with a tablespoon of each of three different sauces. Grape jelly, Carmel sauce and chocolate sauce that was not melted. They must have poured the sauce earlier in the day and it congealed.
Tax and 20%tip came to just over $800 for 6 people. (Only ordered 3 bottles of wine) and almost 4 hours time spent.
Sadly to say, I was disappointed and won’t be going back.
Restaurant it is beautiful. Service was less than spectacular for the prices they were charging. We received our salads before we received our cocktails. Noise level is so high that it is difficult to hold a conversation. Food was fresh and beautifully presented on the plates, so this is a mixed review. Love the decor, loved the food, did not like the service or the attitude of the waitstaff. Restaurant is beautiful. Service was less than spectacular for the prices they were charging. Initial delivery of starters was slow... nearly 10 minutes for a drink and then 50 minutes from sitting down to delivery of shrimp and oysters.
Rest of the meal was pretty quick after that... strange to be so slow at 7 pm.
I eat a few times per year in this restaurant when I’m on business trip in SF. The food taste and quality is diminishing over time. Not sure whether it’s because of turnover of kitchen staff or just optimizing profit. Service is though very good and waiters and team is very friendly. Restaurant WAS one of my favorites.
Amazing seafood, great service, excellent wine! Go!
First time here. Took a business client here at the referral of a business partner of mine. Very impressive.
It was a great anniversary for us. Food was exceptional, service was friendly and ever-present. Management was also very visible and present to us. We were glad to go back to one of our favorite San Francisco restaurants and have already told others about our wonderful experience.
It was a 35th anniversary and the experience was special from start to finish. Food was wonderfully prepared from high quality ingredients and well presented. But the service was especially good as Tim our server and all support staff did a great job! We would definitely return if back in the SF area.
Fantastic food and knowledgeable staff. Would highly reccomend a visit
We waited over 1 hour for our entree after having our appetizer. And when the food arrived, my date’s risotto was luke warm. We sent it back & it returned the same because they heated the tuna instead. I was finished with my entree by the time my date’s entree finally appeared. Our waitress was very informed about the options & had a great personality. I was very disappointed , considering the price tag associated with the meal.
Well. Very disappointing. took my friend for her birthday. They gave us nice table on the top floor, although the prettiest part of the dining room was far away. Food started off good. Oysters delicious. But our server was pretentious and condescending from outset. Kept trying to upsell us on to get highest priced wines and food items. And was pushy and not trying to make it a special experience by saying that we needed to decide what we wanted all at once because he was very busy (!). Busboy was gracious and attentive. And to top it off, I told waiter about my serious (deadly!) allergy to cashews and pistachios and he actually served cheese that we ordered at end with cashews all over the plate!!
When I called him on it, he was snooty and the presumably manager tried to rectify by bringing us an additional cheese plate . Honestly, for the cost of the meal, it was entirely over-rated. There are so many great restaurants in the city who actually care about food & customers service. This is not one of them. I did not want to make a scene, but in retrospect, they should have comped the meal, given the potential extreme health risk they put me in, rather than offer us a “complimentary” cashew-free (!) cheese platter. We eat at many fine restaurants in this city where we I have ALWAYS been well-treated. I specifically chose this one, where I haven’t been for awhile, because of the beauty of the place in celebrating a dear friend’s birthday. Honestly, I am completely put off by the whole experience and lack of genuine concern for my well-being.
We had a great experience; unique space and very pretty! Our food was amazing and the service was top notch! We went for our 15th wedding anniversary and they gave us a card and nice anniversary dessert. We will be back for sure!
Excellent, fresh seafood. Food is cooked in a simple, honest way and tastes delicious. Portions are perfectly sized and the ambiance is convivial
Although I don't live in SF, I've been going to Farallon ever since it opened. I always found the food to be excellent and interesting. This time we were disappointed. The crab cocktail was quite plain -- picked crab on a lettuce leaf -- but the crab meat was superb. The petrale sole, however, was under-seasoned and boring.
One of my favorite restaurants in the union square area. Nice decor. Good (though not outstanding) service. The food (primarily seafood) is generally quite good, though on this occasion, we were not bowled over by any of the dishes we were served. Nothing bad; everything done acceptably; just nothing noteworthy. A little disappointing since we have been impressed by the quality of their food in the past.
Eclectic renovation of an old building that used to be a swimming pool, with a barrel vaulted ceiling for a historic and yet modern ambiance. Very attentive staff, and a knowledgeable sommelier who assisted with our wine selection for the oysters OTHS appetizer, and the swordfish and the tuna entrees that we selected. Great food combinations made for a very enjoyable meal.
An amazing experience! Everything delicious and prepared to order-from steak to seafood and in between. We also had a wonderful server.
Great sommelier and wine list, too.
The interior is charming. We were presented with a taste of a cold soup upon sitting down. It was extraordinarily. My Sole and my husband’s tuna were just ok. The Tiger Shrimp were wonderful. Our server was the absolute best! I wish I knew her name to properly acknowledge her. She was available but not intrusive but appeared just before you realized that, “ yes, you would like that second glass of wine”.
