Fable - SF
Food was nice , Mac and cheese was awesome !
Excellent place for brunch. Great food and drinks.
We started our evening here (bachelorette party) and it was the perfect place to begin!
Delicious food, great wine selections, and a beautiful restaurant with friendly and attentive servers!
I was so impressed and cannot wait to return!
I found this tasty place on Yelp and I am glad I was able to try it out while I was in San Francisco. I was visiting a friend who lives in The Castro, so we were able to walk to this little spot from his flat. He wisely asked for a table on the outdoor patio. It's behind the interior and looks like someone's outdoor garden. There are fountains and greenery. It's quite lovely. The orange juice here was so fresh and my friend got pomegranate juice and loved it too. He ordered a benedict of some kind and I ordered French toast with a side of bacon. The crème fraiche that came with my French toast was smooth and decadent, but not too sweet. It was the perfect addition. The service was prompt and overall the food was excellent. It tasted good and the presentation was lovely. The only downsides: out of nowhere, it began to rain. We ended up having to move tables, because the canopy didn't quite cover our table. We were then seated underneath an outdoor heating silo and it dripped rust onto my friend's new jacket. They also only had one bathroom, so I had to wait and wait to use it.
Was great the girls next to us loud but not the restaurants fault
We were pretty underwhelmed by Fable relative to the expectations from the reviews online. The setting is great, but the food and service were below what we've had at other restaurants in the area at similar price points.
It was good overall.
Our food was excellent and made for a very enjoyable evening. Servers need to pay a little more attention to details and the restaurant could use some refreshing, though I understand that profit margins are often thin.
The food was overall excellent. Everyone loved their starters and main courses. Three people has the Mahi Mahi, 1 person had the duck and I had the vegetarian dish which was outstanding. The dessert (a pear crumble or some such) was good but not great.
The garden is lovely and outdoor seating would be fabulous on a slightly warmer evening, 3 of our party of five were warm enough and two of us were a little chilly throughout dinner - so it depends if you run hot or run cold. They did have heaters and blankets, the latter helped quite a bit.
The only thing that really pulls down the overall review is that the service, while efficient, felt oddly condescending and indifferent. We had an absolute minimum of interaction with our waiter. It felt more like we were an inconvenience than delightful dinner guests and, for the price, one would like to feel more welcome and attended to.
We had another delicious meal at Fable. It was the perfect place for a chilly winter night. The bread pudding in particular was outstanding!
Great Castro staple that provides a great meal service. Lovely outdoor patio for dining.
Yaaaassss, Guiseppe! The service was excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed the food!
The food here was better than the already high expectations we set. My father commented that it was the best chicken he's ever had in a restaurant in his life. High praise from a man who orders the same thing everywhere he goes.
It was a bit cold, even inside, as it was January and the breeze's path from the patio hit us directly. I wish they would turn the heaters on as soon as they open. It was warm by the time we left, but I wore my scarf through the first half of our meal.
Always friendly service and consistent quality.
I had the burger this time... juicy and delicious. Perfect crispy bacon, and crispy fries with it. Server was professional, helpful, and inobtrusive.
We ate outside in the pretty patio in the pouring rain, and were still cozy! The heaters work wonderfully, and there's a "ceiling" made of waterproof material. Outside was great for talking, but inside was fairly loud and crowded, so outside was a real treat. I loved the French Toast. And the staff were great.
Maybe better for brunch. Dinner was OK, service was OK, good neighborhood option.
The ambiance was beautiful in the back patio. My boyfriend and I enjoyed all the plants and the fountain! The back patio was well heated even in January! The servers were attentive and food was prompt and delicious!
Nice! The tartine was just two pieces of toast with the toppings on it, so a little weird. But the quiche was tasty, and coffee good.
Really disappointed in the food. Hard carrots in the pot roast that has a bland and uninteresting sauce, pear “jam” was the consistency of applesauce and tasted like chapstick. Salad was sloppy and over dressed with a horrible dressing and definitely not little gem lettuce as the menu suggests. I hate hate hate giving bad reviews to restaurants because I know how hard everyone works as I’m a restaurant owner myself. We ate what we were able to stomach and went somewhere else after.
So good! Excellent service, wonderful high quality food.
This was my third time here — and I feel it has only improved over time. The food was delicious, and the service was very good. It was a busy night, but they handled it well.
Beautiful atmosphere and amazing food! Loved the location as well.
We had a wonderful brunch at Fable. The patio was lovely and the quinoa salad with poached eggs and bacon was simply amazing ! It was the main reason why I chose to have brunch there !
Delicious food, aceptable price and good service
Our server who we have had many times in the past but maybe only a few times a year, remembered us and what we liked to drink! Great place with great service
Some of the best pancakes I’ve ever had in my entire life! We adored the fresh, local flavors, kind service, and gorgeous patio space.
Food is amazing. The pork chop is not heavy and full of flavors. Staff is friendly and made our experience unique. It's a gem in the neighborhood.
Very cute place and good food. Needs more vegetarian and vegan options.
There is little nuance to the flavors of the cuisine here. Dishes seem to be adequately prepared to meet the food you expect as described on the menu and by the server. Flavors are bold and dishes are unsurprising. Some kitchen ideas are misguided, such as using mashed prose sweet potatoes smeared across the plate as a base for the seared tuna. If prices were 20_25% lower, this could become a regular neighborhood place to go for a solid dinner and good selection of wine.
I've been going to Fable since they opened and I still love it. While a large portion of the menu changes seasonally, they have a few perennial dishes that are always available. I'm an omnivore, so I appreciate that Fable always has menu items to suit my appetite of the moment, whether it's for meat or veggie. When I went the other night, I ordered a seasonal favorite: Beetloaf. Don't scrunch your face up like that! It's so delicious! It's done meatloaf style, but it's vegan and is made with shredded beets to mimic the consistency of meat. It's quite a filling dish and I look forward to it each fall. My friend ordered and loved the Sesame Crusted Seared Tuna.
Fable is one of our group's standing brunch spots on a Sunday. They've got a great patio space out back with a mix of sun and shade to sit back and enjoy a carafe of mimosas with friends.
Wonderful! Love all. The back outside deck is a Gem :-)
Food and atmosphere was fantastic. A bit pricey, but worth it!
Chose Fable to celebrate my husband’s birthday and we were not disappointed! Beautiful patio seating, ambiance and food were excellent. Loved that they listed good wine pairings on the menu as well for dummies like me. :) Server was good, but a bit distracted with a very loud table with kids nearby. Still, was very polite, attentive and made our night memorable. I would absolutely recommend this place for any special occasion!
Hands down top five restaurants in San Francisco by far. The food was delicious, the service was phenomenal, and the warm patio seating makes a world of difference. It truly was a fable, or a storybook turned magical. Five stars.
Great ambiance on the back patio. Food was solid. My fiancé had the Vegan lasagne, which they are famous for, and it was amazing (something I don’t usually find myself saying about vegan food).
Enjoyed a great brunch on a really nice and cozy patio.
Our server (Adria) was awesome!! Super knowledgeable about wine- and was able to match our tastes to meals perfectly.
We had the mussels as an app, and the pork chop and chicken as entrees. Both were PERFECT.
Outside seating is gorgeous. Amazing vibe.
The only negative thing was they sat a family (with a kid) next to us mid-way through dining and that took away from our quiet date night atmosphere we had going on prior.
Would DEFINITELY go back. Interested to see how it is for brunch.
Love eating here!
Every time that I have been here, the food has been outstanding! I am pretty picky with my eggs and being a pescatarian, I have found not many places know how to make flavorful veggie omelets. However, Fable's eggs were absolutely delicious. I also had the pleasure of splitting entrees with a friend and can say their pancakes were worth the splurge -- such a treat. The exceptional food, combined with the lovely garden setting (and the fact that they take reservations), makes this one of my top brunch spots in the entire Bay. My only request is to PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add an espresso machine to your armamentarium. That would seal the deal for the #1 spot... because brunch, no matter how delightful, just isn't the same without my (non drip) coffee :)
