Fable & Spirit
Best atmosphere and such delicious food! Loved that we could walk there and around the village. Beautiful interiors! We were a party of 10 and our service was awesome!! We will be back soon!
I love this brand new restaurant in Lido. The decor is beautiful and modern and the large window where you can watch the cooks scurrying around preparing the meals is a nice touch. We ordered a number of plates for the 4 of us so we could try many things. I particularly loved the potato dumplings--I was hungry and we got them first so maybe that weighted the evaluation. Shrimp, fish, pork, the 2 deserts, all good. We waited a little long for our first drink order but, hey....they are all getting it together and I know from this owner's other 2 restaurants that the food and service will continue to improve in any areas that need training. Free parking around the corner...pretty handy for this area so close to the beach. I give this place a 5* and will return soon.
Their signature cocktails, although small, were amazing! Had the salmon with a side of Brussels sprouts...highly recommend. The interior decor is fabulous but unfortunately, neither the hostess or server knew the designer's name. Would love to know!
Went for a birthday. Drink service was very very slow. Halibut was over cooked and dry. Didn’t care for the grilled prime ribcap, too much smoke flavor. Mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts, Kona kampachi crude and potato boxty dumplings were fabulous!! Morrigans Dream cocktail was good and the Irish coffee definitely come back for!
Food was good. However no bread or rolls are included with salads. We asked for a roll or bread with our salad entree. We were told that we needed to buy a whole loaf of bread that was on their menu at a cost of $12. We were told that their was on other dish that came with bread and we could add it to our bill. We decided to do neither. Shortly after that we were served foe pieces of toasted bread free. Apparently the cooks made this happen. We will probably not go back because of this rule.
Great time on our first visit. Great food and service. We were there EARLY Sunday, though - the place might get awfully noisy once it's further into the dinner hour, as the bar and dining areas are one and the same, and the space isn't THAT big....
Our server asked us about bringing the food out when its ready versus in a specific order. We opted for when its ready to have it freshest and it all ended up coming at the same time.
The short rib and beet ravioli were by far our favorite. The atmosphere was a bit loud and hard to carry on a conversation, but the overall decor of the restaurant was nice.
The waiter should say that the bone marrow takes a long time. Or at least wait to fire the dinners till the bone marrow comes out. We got the bone marrow and 15 seconds later our main entrees came out. Also, the floor is super slippery and sticky. Everything else is good though, you guys seem to be doing well.
Food absolutely scrumptious and service impeccable! It did get noisy as it got busier.
Great food and service. Tables too close together. Felt like we were dining with strangers next to us.
Great food, first class service, and the cocktails where outstanding....really enjoyed the look and feel of the restaurant...also thought the open view into the kitchen was great....
Our third time at Fable & Spirit as we love this lively, neighborhood restaurant! The food is fresh, delicious and innovative. We’ll be back again and again!!
Fable & Spirit is a great addition to the Lido Village! The owner was circulating among the tables the night we were there to welcome everyone and get feedback on the experience and food and he truly seems to care about making a meal at F&S a great experience . The space is beautiful. The attention to detail and layout is very conducive to conversation while still feeling very open. Every little detail has been well thought out with the decor which is unique (dark colors, soft upholstery, interesting and beautiful lighting, etc). Our table of 4 shared several dishes including the brussels sprouts (perfectly cooked and very flavorful with nice crispy edges), the citrus salad and kale ceasar (both good, very different salads - I prefer the citrus salad as being the more interesting of the two), porchetta (VERY rich but tasty, the portion should be shared among at least 4 people as a little goes a long way!), mussels and fish and chips (perfectly crispy and tasty pieces of cod) and very artfully stacked 'chips' (fries) that were also delicious (and I usually don't eat fries). I'm not into mussels but my tablemates raved about them and the flavorful broth they were served in. There are many other items on the menu I want to go back and try so will add more in future reviews. The only suggestion would be to give the server more direction about what order you want food to come out. They did ask us which we wanted together for a 'first course' and we said, 'just bring them when they're ready' which resulted in all of our dishes coming nearly at once which made for a crowded table and I would have enjoyed everything just a bit more spaced out. That's on us, will provide more direction next time.
Great decor, Great food, great service...
Too loud, choice of music was not appropriate.
Like to see more choices of food at lower prices..
a bit “spendy” for a Lido Lunch !
For sure to come back
Food was expensive, over salted and mediocre at best! Hamburger so flavorless( except for overwhelmingly fake smoke taste!) that we took one bite and left it.... chicken confit had zero flavor and was so dry I had to gag it down.... we won’t be returning!!
terrific vibe and wonderful food...
They are still working out the kinks of being a new restaurant. Awesome decor. Slow service. Small portion size. Limited menu. Nice waitress.
Great choice for a special occasion or just a dinner out with a friend. Fish and Chips is fabulous.
Our server, Jessica,, was very attentive and friendly. The prime rib and the Brussels sprouts were delicious Wines by the glass are very pricey.
Outstanding!! May this restaurant have a veryyyyyy long stay in our city!!
The moment you walk in you can see the attention to detail in everything they do. Open and airy with a very cool bar-
Five stars for the customer service! Bravo to Darren for being a delightful owner and for being over the top kind to offer a glass of bubbly while I waited for my late lunch guest:)))
The food is terrific. The menu is one of a kind. You can choose from several unique small plates, salads or entrees/large plates--all are expertly prepared. Cocktails looked delish and the bubbles were yummy!!
Choose this place and you are in for a dining experience with a great atmosphere!!! This is a do not miss in Lido/Newport------
Everything from the food to the service was exceptional!!
Great food and ambiance. Love that they offer Guinness on tap!
Wonderful in every way
We arrived at 6:30 on a Saturday night. It was loud and hard to hold a conversation between two couples in the middle of the room. Service was good, fast, attentive and appropriate. Heirloom carrots were great, so were our cocktails. Chicken confit was so dry, it was inedible. We went home hungry. Bill for four adults $300. Most like we will not be going back.
Beautiful restaurant, top notch food. It would have been a 5 star but for 3 small reasons:
1) The cocktails are good but not special... certainly not elevated to be on the same level with Social or some of the best cocktail-making establishments in the area.
2) Service was tragic: the first round of cocktails took nearly 25 minutes to arrive after ordering them. Worse, our server was literally impossible to find throughout the dinner. At one point, we thought maybe she had gone home sick or something.
3) Tiny food. The full plates are of a fair size but just be warned: the starters are small -- in some cases, ridiculously so (in particular, the sugar snap peas dish).
All that said, you should go. The place is really cool, the kitchen is on full display through a large window, the vibe is good and the food is tasty. At a more established restaurant, I would have taken the stars rating way down on service alone but this place is new... they have enough good things going on that we're assuming they will get the service issues ironed out.
The restaurant is super cute. Loved the decor and the color scheme. The service was excellent. The cocktails were pretty creative. I went with a girlfriend to celebrate her birthday. We ordered several small plates and they were all delicious.
Great food and great date night. Guinness bread was fantastic! The owners sat us and were very friendly. Highly recommend checking this place out!
What a wonderful gem in the heart of Newport Beach’s Lido! The ambiance, service and food left nothing to be desired. And an added bonus was the personal touch from the owner himself.
They have been opened for just over two weeks now, and I have been there multiple times because I am so impressed with everything about this fabulous new restaurant.
Already one of my favorites in town‼️
I know they are in week 2 and still working out the kinks but I wanted to rate as it was when I visited.
Upbeat people but not sure if genuinely friendly. We ordered a sparkling rose at the bar and was given the wrong drink twice. When we sat down, we ordered the bottle of the same and was brought a white sparkling. We had to explain it wasn’t the one we ordered. When he came back apparently they were actually of that sparkling rose. We made a joke about how we were going to leave and the managers response was “don’t worry I’m sure someone else will want this table”. I’m assuming he was joking but his body language DID NOT say so.
Our server was smiley and kind. She seemed to still be learning the menu and seemed newer to serving. service was a bit slow on parts where you wanted it fast like getting your drink order or coming back pour your win/water but fast in the food delivery.
Once they work out those areas I think anyone would feel good about the price point of their food.
Ambiance and decor is a nice treat for the Lido village. Johnathon Adler-ish with velvet benches and yellow door.
Good and can be great
We had the bone marrow but it wasn’t cooked all the way through. I’m used it being charred and gooey. It was a little too solid for me
Halibut and prawns were good as well as the Brussels sprouts
Worth another try.
It was great! The food, drinks, dessert delicious, and the waiter was awesome. I love it
Great restaurant! We had the best food and great service, from the greeting at the reception to our server...we will definitely be back, hopefully soon. So nice to finally find a restaurant with great food at a reasonable price.
Food was delicious. Love the restaurant. Strange thing happened as waiter took orders from 2 of our 6 people and the other 4 were still deciding. Food came for those two people and the other 4 had never ordered. That shouldn't happen. Thanks!
Will be back. Food is GREAT. Restaurant is beautiful
Although open only 9 days this restaurant felt like an establishment that belonged at the heart of some of the best in Newport.
An extensive list of creative craft cocktails along with fairly priced wines are inviting.
We started with the shrimp, fantastic, and the brown bread which could have been dessert.
I had the fish and chips, two had the halibut and the forth the steak, finished with bread pudding.
A must try.
Absolutely outstanding!!! From the wine list which has 45 different wines by the glass- to the inventive and wonderful menu- this restaurant surpassed all my expectations! The octopus was especially good as was the dark bread and the cauliflower - we can’t wait to go back!!!!
We dined at Fable and Spirit twice last week! The food and drinks are creative and delicious. The decor is absolutely beautiful, comfortable but with posh touches. The owners Darren and Jeanne Coyle who are known for their Irish hospitality with their two successful restaurants in Mission Viejo have taught their staff to be attentive and friendly Darren and Jeanne have hit it out of the park with this new restaurant!
Carefully crafted menu famous American entrees with an Artful and perhaps a French Flair. Roasted cauliflower as well as the brussel sprouts are a must-try on your first visit. Bartenders trains in incredible craft cocktails to compliment your menu choices
They just opened and everything was perfect!!! Will go many times
My greatest fear is that I may never be able to get a reservation here again - at least on short notice. What a fantastic addition to the Lido community. The food is interesting and wonderfully prepared. The service was top-notch, and the ambience was fresh and inviting. A new fave!
