We meticulously brew, package, and test all of our beer at our historic brewery in Des Moines. Exile is available for distribution throughout, and only in, Iowa.
Everything in our Beer Kitchen is locally sourced and made from scratch.
Large party and the waitress was no where to be found. We couldnt order dinner for over 30 minutes. After plates were cleared we didnt see her for another 30 minutes. When she cane back she asked about drinks and dessert and then disappeared for another 10 minutes before actually being interested in taking our dessert order. Because the service was so bad we decided to leave and get dessert somewhere else. It wasnt busy and other large groups that arrived after us and had a different server ate and left well before us...
We used this service to reserve a table knowing how busy it is. When we got there it wasn’t busy. They put 6 large sized adults at a booth in the bar. Even before we sat down I knew it wouldn’t be good. 4 of the 6 have never been there so excited for them to eat there. There were currently several open tables in the other room so asked if there was someone else for us to sit. It was 8 o’clock at this point and the blonde hostess said no they were taken. So we crammed into booth with no room. I kept watching for the several tables to be taken cause of our comfort and they were never taken. Very disappointing.
Food and service was good. I’m glad they’ve added more beers-especially the sour beers. The one downside to this place is the parking. Parking is so hard to find and makes it less worth spending 15 minutes to find a spot to eat there.
Great patio and an interesting selection of house brewed beers along with wine and cocktails. Wide variety of dishes ranging from cheese curds to fresh fish. Great place to spend a summer evening.
Great brewpub! Good beer, good food, good service.
Friends in town
Was disappointed they didn't have a beer on tap that their website said they did.
Great food, drinks and service! We will definitely return the next time we are in the area!
Always good food, and great beer! Patio seating with downtown views.
Always a great beer and great food! Will be going again soon!
Great dining experience at Exile! Our reserved table was ready when we arrived. Lucy was a fabulous server and made excellent recommendations for beers. She was just the right amount of attentive and we were never left waiting. The food was excellent, as always. So glad to have this local gem in Des Moines!
Our first time eating here. The lamb sliders were great and the Asian salad was also very good. And the beers were perfect.
Food was great. Beer was good. Service was good until tables started feeling in. Our server was clearly overwhelmed by a large party and it was reflected in her service. I ordered another beer as our food was delivered and never received it and she never checked back to ask us if our food was okay.
Good service. Good food. The menu is not as eclectic as it used to be but still good. I enjoy it, but my wife views the food as typical bar food, just better than usual.
Lots of flies. It was hard to focus on the food because I had to spend so much time keep flies away.
Great food options and always fresh solid beers. Would recommend for any group of people
Very impressed. I can see why it's tough to get an evening reservation on the weekend. Everything about Exile was great.
We were at Exile Brewing for lunch. We arrived early for our reservation, and they were able to take us early which was great. Our server, Fernando, was very nice and always checking up on us. Food was excellent; we had cheese curds, Exile Burger, Sunrise Burger, Crispy Chicken Ranch Salad, and beer of course! Everything was so good!
We always enjoy eating/drinking at Exile Brewery. Since it's mostly open areas, the noise level can get pretty loud which can make it difficult to hear the people with whom we are dining. But the food is always good & so are the drinks and the service.
We have been to Exile several times sampling an array of food and beers. The beauty of this brewery/restaurant is the food is an upscale version of what you would find in typical bar food. So much so it touches elegant on some dishes, but with a more laid back atmosphere. This will continue to be a mainstay for us. Keep up the great work!
Parking in the small lot was a pain. Otherwise, the beer, food and service were very good.
Visiting from out of town. Great selection of house made brews. The beer was the highlight. Food was good.
Our first time at Exile did not disappoint. Food and beer were both fantastic! Great service and loved the atmosphere. Will definitely go again.
We enjoyed our meal and service. Staff were especially helpful with our energetic 2 year old!
We always love Exile. On a Friday night there was a notable difference in our experience this time- my sisters pretzel appetizer was practically inedible because the pretzels were rock solid, and our food took much longer than usual to come out (approx 40 minutes). However, we gave them the benefit of the doubt that they were just very busy and we have never had a less than perfect experience before, so we will be back again soon in hopes that it was a one time ordeal.
This is a bar with typical bar food. Our waitress was amazing considering she had no assistance from any other human. We sat on the patio on a warm night - and so did everyone else. They were a bit understaffed for the patio area. Needless to say, our waitress rose to the occasion and we truly enjoyed our evening.
We have visited before and loved the food and beer. It was great again! First time here with a baby and they were very accommodating and helpful. I couldn’t have imagined things going more smoothly.
Great food and even better beer.
Great local brewery with great food options. Something for everyone! Our waitress was very knowledgable about their menus both drinks and food. Atmosphere is great too! Highly recommend especially if you are from out of town.
Food was not the best and was a bit cold. The beers and service were great.
I wish you still had the Azetc burger. That was my FAVORITE. Our waiter was AMAZING!!
Amazing food and craft brews -- something delicious for every palette! Good for both casual dining and special event meals. If you're in downtown Des Moines, Exile Brewing should be on your short list of restaurants to check out.
We had 8 people in our party and everyone enjoyed the experience. We were seated at a square table upstairs so it was easy to talk to everyone with very little background noise. The service was outstanding; the waitress was personable, informative & prompt. The food was excellent.
Drinks and atmosphere were great. Food was not great (pork cutlet sandwich, in particular).
Excellent beer. Server was attentive and let us know about happy hour app specials just in time to get one. Food was tasty pub grub. Fish and chips, chicken tenders, and pork tenderloin sandwich were all very good and appreciated after a long travel day.
Second visit and brought 7 people for Mother's day. Server was excellent but had plastic left on fish under the fried batter. Brought back two more fish and chips with one still frozen in the middle. Table was done eating while we were picking through fish. They gave us $6 off for drinks. No apology from restaurant. Yuck.
Great food, highly recommend the crab dip! The value on Sunday ($3 beers) is awesome and it’s a great atmosphere. We made reservations for a group of 10 for Mother’s Day and the service was excellent! One of my favorite burger/beer joints in Des Moines!
Exile Brewery is a fun craft brewery. Gigi and Ruthie are our favorites. The food is exceptional. It is high quality and more than bar food. The Italian menu items are authentic and super delicious. One person in our party said it was the best fish n chips she ever had.
The staff was more than accommodating, I called to increase our guest count and we arrived early. The host/hostess were not flustered an seated us right away.
This is a family owned business by a longstanding name in the Des Moines area. Great place!
