We meticulously brew, package, and test all of our beer at our historic brewery in Des Moines. Exile is available for distribution throughout, and only in, Iowa.
Everything in our Beer Kitchen is locally sourced and made from scratch.
Took all necessary precautions with covid. Beautiful space, great food and beer. Would visit again!
Moving our daughter to Des Moines from Toledo and 1st comment was ...Why can’t we relocate Exile to Toledo.? Great service, refreshing beer, and delicious food.
Always a great experience. Good food and good beer!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Always the best food and best service! Not to mention the best craft beer!
This was my first dining out experience since COVID. They took temps at the door, the staff wore masks, and we sat outside on the patio at a picnic bench by ourselves, spaced more than 6 feet away from others. We ordered truffle fries for an appetizer (they were AMAZING) and I ordered a sour beer that delicious. The seared salmon salad was fresh and tasty. Great evening. I appreciated all the steps they took to keep guests safe, while still providing a fun and relaxing dining experience. Exile is a gem in our city.
Service was excellent! Food was good- slightly disappointed that the charcuterie board from appetizer menu was missing. We substituted Cuban instead, and we’re not overwhelmed by it. The Cuban was simply adequate. However, everything else we tried was delicious!
Soft opening after the Guv allowed restaurants in Polk county to reopen. Patio and tap room open but dining room closed. Upon our arrival they took our temperature and promptly seated us at a high top. Our waitress was top notch and was there at our beck & call. The beer and food was excellent as usual - my cubano and my date’s chicken sandwich were prepared to perfection. All staff looked like they were making the best of the situation. We’ll be back!
The food was spectacular. I highly recommend the salmon salad. It didn’t even need the dressing.
We had reservation for a table of 8. The room and table we had was really nice and perfect for our group of people. The service was great and the food and drinks were delicious. 100% recommend Exile!
Delicious! Very good waiter. And LOVE the fresh hot Crab Dip!
Thanks for the great meal! Our waiter, John, was also very helpful and upbeat.
We were a party of 8 and our server took care of us—-our food and drinks and anything we needed were taken care of with a smile and without missing a beat. It was a busy Friday night but we never waited long for anything and the food was really good!
Baked pasta never disappoints at Exile! Creamy parm dressing is also a favorite.
We have been to Exile several times and in the past the food was good. When we went for Valentine’s dinner it was truly disappointing. Dry chicken and salmon.
We made a reservation for 5pm. We arrived about 4:53pm and were seated immediately. The hostess who sat us, warned us about Valentine’s Day being a particularly busy day at the restaurant and to please be patient with slow service. However, we did not experience that at all. Our server was timely and friendly throughout our dining experience. The breaded pork tenderloin was huge and cooked to perfection. The pretzel bun was fresh and delicious. And those truffle fries. Everyone agreed, they are the best fries ever. My lemon drop martini was delicious and refreshing. Our waters were never less than half full. We will definitely be returning.
I have never had a bad meal or experience since Exile opened. The food is excellent and rotates seasonally, along with my favorite craft beers. So easy for me to get to and enjoy. Thank you!
In my reservation request I stated that my elderly parents would be with us for for my dad’s birthday. When we arrived the only seating they had available was a booth for 6 people. We were so crowded there was hardly room for the food we ordered
We had a great dining experience and our waitress was exceptional. I would definitely suggest this to family and friends and will be going back myself. The food was done to perfection and our whole group was pleased with the experience.
Cozy dinner with friends on a snowy evening. Service and food were fantastic!
Good food and beer
What a fabulous dinner! Loved the energy of this place and the food was so tasty!
Love their food and the service was great and fast!
Was quite disappointed. Went on New Years, was immediately told by the hostess that the next reservation for our table was in an hour and a half so...? Um, ok. Complained to the manager who seemed to understand our annoyance and comped us a round of drinks. While my husband and I understand the importance of turning tables on a busy evening, perhaps a better approach is recommended! Like I told the manager, tell us that we’re welcome to drink in the bar area once we’re done with our meal, don’t tell us we have an hour and a half to eat as you’re handing us the menu. Seriously put off and most likely will not return. Bean burger was good but nothing “to write home about.” Teach your staff how to appropriately convey a message instead of being rude.
I secured a reservation via open table for 9 people - 2 sets of in-laws, 3 kids and my husband and myself. The table waS ready, the service was excellent - right down to the tactful way of asking about the check!! We love exile and will for sure be back!!! Clearly something for everyone & quality alcohol for the uncomfortable situations!! 😳
Good as always. Great service. Thank you
Great food and craft beer! Lively atmosphere and quality service. Good place for any occasion.
Good burgers, tasty starters, great beer, knowledgeable and friendly waitstaff, but service was very slow.
Had a great time working with Ben on our special girls outing. Tasty cocktails followed by fried Brussels sprouts. We had steak salads, fish and chips and the salmon dinner. All were delicious. The house dressing has a little more bite than expected but was a great compliment to the salad. The only thing disappointing were our desserts. The Creme brûlée French toast was overcooked and the carrot cake was dense and dry in comparison to what we expected. Still a wonderful dinner.
I had the salad with salmon-Would it be possible to cut the lettuce up before sending it out? The salmon was delicious-the lettuce hard to eat.
It's wonderful to be able to make a reservation for 8 for dinner, and sit at the perfect sized table upstairs. Great service, wonderful beer and food, excellent service.
Food was excellent once again, though the fried pickles were a little over battered. Other than that, steaks were great, sides were amazing, and my chicken sandwich was once again one of the best I’ve ever had.
The beer and ambiance are perfect for a casual business meeting. I highly recommend for downtown DSM dining.
Great Burger. Great Service. The atmosphere was great. Overall, it was really good, and we will be back.
Server did a great job with so many people. I'm not sure how she did it.
Large party and the waitress was no where to be found. We couldnt order dinner for over 30 minutes. After plates were cleared we didnt see her for another 30 minutes. When she cane back she asked about drinks and dessert and then disappeared for another 10 minutes before actually being interested in taking our dessert order. Because the service was so bad we decided to leave and get dessert somewhere else. It wasnt busy and other large groups that arrived after us and had a different server ate and left well before us...
We used this service to reserve a table knowing how busy it is. When we got there it wasn’t busy. They put 6 large sized adults at a booth in the bar. Even before we sat down I knew it wouldn’t be good. 4 of the 6 have never been there so excited for them to eat there. There were currently several open tables in the other room so asked if there was someone else for us to sit. It was 8 o’clock at this point and the blonde hostess said no they were taken. So we crammed into booth with no room. I kept watching for the several tables to be taken cause of our comfort and they were never taken. Very disappointing.
Food and service was good. I’m glad they’ve added more beers-especially the sour beers. The one downside to this place is the parking. Parking is so hard to find and makes it less worth spending 15 minutes to find a spot to eat there.
Great patio and an interesting selection of house brewed beers along with wine and cocktails. Wide variety of dishes ranging from cheese curds to fresh fish. Great place to spend a summer evening.
Great brewpub! Good beer, good food, good service.
