Eugene's Gulf Coast Cuisine
Join us in celebrating the flavors and traditions of the Gulf Coast in a charming, casual-fine dining atmosphere. All our dishes are made from scratch (except the Ranch dressing and Blue Bell ice cream) and our seafood and steaks are grilled over a wood-burning fire of oak and hickory. The freshest seafood, certified angus beef steaks, delicious sides, daily specials, decadent desserts, wonderful wines, best martini’s in town and genuine Southern hospitality are a few of the things that will keep you coming back.
Eugene's is wonderful. The same great dishes as Danton's with the same outstanding quality. Best Gulf Seafood in Houston. The new location is beautiful -- a big improvement. Great for any occasion. My highest recommendation.
Food was fantastic, but the Teas family has been honing their craft for so long that came as little surprise. What really made our night was the service. Sonya's surprisingly sunny welcome as she happened to usher us inside set the tone for the evening, and Sondra's easy improbably endearing smile and efforts above and beyond somehow made that fantastic food taste just that much better. Hiring that well speaks volumes about an establishment's essential quality.
We live in the neighborhood and were excited to try this one. We went with a friend Friday night, I rarely take time to write a review but our evening was such a disappointment I feel compelled. Our waiter was one of the worst I’ve experienced, slow, unprofessional, unable to communicate the menu. Repeated our order a few times and still got it completely wrong. When the food finally arrived my salmon was cold, spinach soggy; got the wrong pasta and with alfredo instead of “light on the red” sauce- not even close to what we ordered. When he finally brought out penne with red sauce it was mostly sauce... overall the food was just OK. Never came back around or asked how our meal was, etc...
We had to ask for the check, brought us someone else’s. Asked another waiter for our check. Just a real let down.. We won’t be back.
Went for 29 year anniversary. Was not disappointed. Ambience was lovely and we sat in a room that was was “quiet “!!! Service was very good and waiter knew the specials by heart. Pricing was fair and the quality of the food was very good. Will be back again.
Service was a bit slow, and during the course of our meal, we had 4 different servers tending to our table. None seemed to be aware of the actions of the others. I always prefer to have ONE SERVER that takes care of my table. The food was outstanding and the interior of the restaurant was beautiful and very comfortable.
The new Eugene's brings all the good from Danton's, but with a new and updated charm.
Food is so good! Service seems like it’s still in training mode.
Great food and great service!
The crab claws, crab and corn bisque and crab au gratin were amazing. Kyle Teas was ever hospitable. Louis was kind and engaging and took great care of me and my family. The food is amazing and I feel like family at Eugene’s. Thank you!
Eugene's restaurant is AWESOME!
Food is fresh and taste great. My new "Favorite" restaurant in Houston.
Subpar food for the Houston dining scene. Promising menu of seafood dishes but they were poorly prepared. Server was gruff and unfriendly. Wine list of cheap selections you can find in any grocery store. Snapper special was a shocking $43 for a disappointing entree. Will not return.
I expected something special after reading the Chronicle review - but it’s only an average neighborhood restaurant.
Excellent! Menu is the same as Danton’s. The inside is gorgeous and elegant. They were packed for lunch. Reservations recommended — even for the bar. Poblano soup, crab cakes, po boys, oh my!
We've gone twice within the last month and both times the food and service were great! The oysters were deliciously fresh and my husband loves the Kyle sauce!
The old Danton’s menu is at Eugene’s and still wonderful. The space is interesting and has a great vibe going on. Crawfish etouffee is a real Cajun delight. Their specials are exactly that. Valet parking should be used for ease. We are just love their desserts that are large enough to split after eating all that rich food. Our waiter and staff were as friendly and attentive as could be. Only drawback is the ground floor bathroom with more up stairs. Eugene’s is really a treat.
Our first visit to new location of an old favorite. Thank goodness they only changed the name and location. The menu is the same. The food is as delicious as ever. And, our favorite server, Louis, is still there. We ate early and were the only patrons in main dining room and it is beautiful. Louis made some great recommendations to make sure we got just what we wanted. The gumbo is as dark and rich as ever. The oysters Kyle, Jonny, and Rockefeller were divine. You cannot go wrong with any of their seafood.
Gereat happy hour. Love the new place and all the pictures from Danton's on the wall. Same great menu and service. We;ll be back.
Excellent food and service. Went for lunch with a group of ladies, and loved the ambiance as well. The salmon salad was fantastic.
It was great all the way!!!
Waiter was knowledgeable, polite, friendly & professional. Food was excellent & portions were generous.
Loved Danton’s - now Eugene’s is our new favorite!!
Loved our dinner and the fact that we could talk and hear each other. What a nice evening
Food was great. Wait staff is overworked. We were treated as an afterthought once the large tables were taken care of. I will go back but not on a weekend.
Fantastic meal, worthy of 5 stars. Not only is the food top notch but the service is impeccable.
Went for lunch and paid dinner prices. Delicious, but pricy.
Very enjoyable birthday celebration.
Wine list is weak! Disappointing!
Service was slow at bar.
Noise level was good!
Location is great!
Food was good.
Although our waiter was personable and dedicated, he was overwhelmed by too many seats and a disorganized service system. Service was slow and many mistakes were happening around us, food brought to the wrong table, and so on. Waiters, helpers, sommelier, set up and bus crews going every which way seemingly not working as a team, such that follow-up and attention to the details of service suffered. Once the food/drink is delivered the table is abandoned by a crew swamped by more parties. Management needs to review what they have in place and how things get done.
Slow, service was terrible, some food too hot & some was too cold, but most was missing something or tasted burnt
A little too much salt in the gumbo but otherwise very good. Derek was a friendly waiter. Good playlist except ZZ Top not very conducive to conversation. So glad the Danton’s gang kept alive one of my favorite restaurant buildings since the Quasimodo days in the early 80’s!
Excellence ambience and service .. reasonable wine list and wide selection of seafood. Gumbo is excellent if you like dark roux and thin. Wasn’t too fond of the crab cakes _ a bit too much bread . Fresh fish and shrimp were nice .
The food was good, and what we expected, but the service was less than what you'd expect from the Danton's team. Our waiter could not answer any of the questions we had about the food, it's preparation, etc. When asked about the garlic soup, he said "it's very garlicky" and he had not tried it or many of the dishes. He had to ask the kitchen every time we had a question. And once he brought the check, he hovered looking for a credit card, when we had not even finished our dessert. It wasn't like the tables were full and they needed to fill ours. The four tables in our section were empty. The busser tried to take my son's half eaten plate (the $42 special) away when he was clearly still eating. The staff needs to be better trained. Not sure we'll be back. There's too many places in Houston to spend $100 for dinner not including any drinks.
Sooooo glad they’re back! I missed the food and the comfortable and friendly atmosphere. Glad to have it all back.
First of all, the restaurant is beautiful! We started with Kyle's Shrimp and I could've ordered two and made them my dinner. The bread is amazing. Three of us had the snapper with crab and onion rings as sides which were superb. Great Gulf Coast seafood prepared with care and tastes like you expect!
Always a winner and excelent. Pls bring back the Ponchartrain sauce....... really adored the stuffed shrim ponchartrain!
Great atmosphere and Great food!! The menu pricing was very fair and the waiters were very attentive.
We had an early 6:00 dinner reservation and were seated immediately. James was our waiter and provided great service and menu recommendations. My starter was a cup of fantastic dark roux seafood gumbo. I followed up with a nicely spicy shrimp creole, full of fat lovely shrimp with a side of house rice. My wife enjoyed a shrimp cocktail with 6 large shrimp. 6 jumbo shrimp would have been much nicer (similar to Lil’Pappas), but the traditional remoulade sauce kept it nice. She also enjoyed a side of dirty rice. We paired all this with an icy cold Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay. With the Astros game starting we skipped desert, an error we won’t repeat.
3 stars overall. Not much else to say. best thing about the place was the decor.
Birthday quiet dinner
We are hold overs from his old restaurant Danton's. The food is delicious and authentic Gulf Coast and Creole/South Louisiana cuisines which, believe it or not, isn't that common in Houston. This new place is beautifully appointed and has a lively bar as well as sedate dining rooms. Highly recommended.
