Eugene's Gulf Coast Cuisine
Join us in celebrating the flavors and traditions of the Gulf Coast in a charming, casual-fine dining atmosphere. All our dishes are made from scratch (except the Ranch dressing and Blue Bell ice cream) and our seafood and steaks are grilled over a wood-burning fire of oak and hickory. The freshest seafood, certified angus beef steaks, delicious sides, daily specials, decadent desserts, wonderful wines, best martini’s in town and genuine Southern hospitality are a few of the things that will keep you coming back.
This is an old school Houston establishment, and the clientele reflected the restaurant’s rich history. This was a business dinner, but I could see bringing my grandparents here for a special occasion. Every dish was delectable and rich. Nice experience!
High quality diverse selection of seafood in a nice setting, but very pricey.
Seated promptly with reservations fortunately. Server did an excellent job, great recommendations, both our fish dishes were wonderful. Not the place for an intimate or romantic date though. Very loud and busy all around.
Just delicious as always and service is wonderful
I love getting the ice cream/pecan ball but it is always frozen hard so that I need an axe to cut it. I wrestle with it to keep from slinging it to the floor.
I liked the neighborhood, somewhat old fashioned atmosphere, and the fact that we could converse comfortably without shouting. Food and cocktails were satisfying. They need to do something about the wine list. I am not a connoisseur at all, but it was pretty feeble for a expensive restaurant in a big city.
We loved the whole experience. The food was superb and our server, Pablo, was tremendous. Throughly enjoyed our evening!
Very busy and service a little slow but everything else was outstanding
Thank you. Sorry about the pace, we are working on that.
Very glad that Eugene’s is open ! Love their Gumbo, the design of the restaurant and the wonderful fresh fish
The meal was outstanding - we shared raw and cooked oysters, a fish special and the stuffed shrimp for dinner, and shared a bottle of white wine. The new space is great, and you can talk to your party without being forced to scream above the background noise and other diners.
Our food was great, pecan crusted snapper. Our friends’ was not good. Blackened snapper and one of the crab dishes that was “dry and hard”.
So sorry about your friends food. Next time PLEASE let us know if anything comes out that's not satisfactory and I assure you we will remake or substitute something else. We pride our self on quality and need to know if we fall short. Yours, Kyle
Great lunch today. Love the Kyle Salad with lump white crab meat, sweet potato strings and bacon. We'll be back for happy hour soon.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a nice review!
Very similar to Danton's, the predecessor restaurant. I am glad they kept the favorites, but I would like a listing of daily specials with prices as I remembered at Danton's, instead of having the server list them without prices. That said, very nice evening.
Thank you. We really appreciate hearing from our guests. We realize it takes time to write a review. Especially a nice one! Cheers!!!
The ambiance is so nice for a conversation. The food is good. I had the salmon salad and it was great.
This restaurant is a must try. It is beautiful inside, the service was a-one and the food excellent. I will definitely be returning here. they also have a happy hour with happy hour prices that are worth going to. Make an early dinner reservation and enjoy the happy hour menu and prices.
Thank you so much. It means a lot to us when one of our guests takes the time to let us know we met or exceeded expectations.
New Years Even dinner
One of the things we love of Eugene's is the ambiance and the waitstaff. Our waiter on New Year's Eve was not as personable as other's we have had. Maybe it was just a stressful evening because it was busy.
Best snapper menuiere I've ever had! Excellent food and service.
Excellent food, somewhat slow service, extra tables were a challenge. Eugene's is not quite ready for large events.
My husband and I had dinner at Eugene’s on New Year’s Eve 2019. Excellent food and service. Highly recommend Eugene’s.
The food and service was outstanding. Ask to set in James Baker’s area. He’s the very best.
Had a amazingly outstanding New Year's Eve dinner at Eugene's with 2 other couples. The food was incredible and the service was super attentive, helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend for any occasion. We look forward to going back and ordering off their regular menu.
Same delicious food as Danton’s, but didn’t like the place they sat us near the walkway by the bar. Sat literally in the doorway :-(
Wish could have ordered off reg menu....... they ran out of johnny's cheesecake. Otherwise all good.
We had a fun New Year's Eve at Eugene's. The food and service was excellent. Food presentation seemed a little old school.
Great place. Service was excellent. Dishes were presented well and tasted great. Large portions well priced nice relaxed ambience. A great new addition to the area replacing John Sheely's
Mockingbird. Very gulf coast very well done. We will be back--
Our first visit to Eugene's. Had read a lot about the restaurant and had high expectations. We both had soup for our first course on a cold rainy night - both were very good - small portions, but filling. I had the rainbow trout - it was smothered in sauce, but was very well-cooked, so I scraped off quite a lot of the sauce. Ordered broccoli which had practically no taste - all white with a little green on top. We shared an "extra-large" twice baked potato, which wouldn't count for extra large in most restaurants. Still it was plenty, if it had only had ANY FLAVOR. Most bland twice baked I've ever had - maybe the forgot the seasonings/salt? My husband had stuffed redfish which he liked, but neither of us were impressed like we'd hoped. If we try it again, I'll definitely order differently.
Are waitress was sweet but it didnt seem like she had it together. I had to ask for bread, she didnt seem to know the menu well, i asked for no bacon on my potato but still recieved i, i asked for fried crabfingers but recieved sauteed, i asked for extra bleu cheese dressing and i had got olives in my margaritas. As first time guest i probably wont be back.
Eugene’s is a lovely place for dinner. The food and service is always outstanding.
Thank you. It's so nice to hear when we meet or exceed expectations. Cheers! Kyle
I love the food and the employees are amazing!!!
Great food better service!! One of my families favorites!!
Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a nice review. Cheers! Kyle
I was very dissappinted for the hype - almost start to finish things were off. I asked for a dirty martini which was pretty much straight vodka and then the second martini was straight olive juice after I asked them to correct it - so cocktails bad. Our server was very knowledgable about the specials but when I ordered the shrimp cocktail (one of their signature dishes with pictures on the website and many other guest had ordered it) it came out as a couple slices of tomato, five plane shrimp on a bed of lettuce with cocktail sauce on the side. Not sure if something got lost in translation but this deconstructed appetizer cost almost $20 ?!! (It was basically a broken down side salad). Then it took 1 hr and 15 min to get out entrees - mind you this was not a packed restaurant. I ordered the red snapper special which was cold and my dining partners entree was hot. Also I was literally chewing huge chunks of sea salt in my dish - so salt on entree was too much plus a pickle juice chaser in the form of a martini - over salted! Food was like going to Laundrys or Joes Crab Shack but cost twice the price. The atmosphere is great, building is nice and its a good concept but the staff were definitely undertrained and the food was not good. Probably just try some other seafood restaurants before I ever come back here
Good po boy
Out first visit to new location. Food in the past was 5* but this visit was a 3. Crab claws were dry, pecan crusted snapper was dry and pecans burnt. Not sure if a different chef now. We have always loved dining with this establishment and food was always on point. Not the case thus time.
The food and service was outstanding.
How can you complain that my only negative is that the serving sizes are LARGE. But the quality & the freshness - and of course the deliciousness - are great.
Thanks so much for taking the time to let us know we met or exceeded your expectations. Its really important to us to hear the positives. Yours, Kyle
The service was fine. The white wine was not what we ordered and it was warm. The food was subpar.
We will not return.
Get together for holidays
Hurrah! I was afraid the restaurant would lose its quiet sophisticated ambience in the relocation, but all is well. Same great food.! The museum district was closer, but I will come to Welch St. So glad to have you back.
Thank you. It takes time to write a review. Especially a good one and we love to hear when we do well. Cheers, Kyle
