Ethiopic has something wonderful for every taste. The atmosphere and service are quietly elegant and authentically Ethiopian. (From my memory of Peace Corps service over 50 years ago.) Admittedly, the high quality and freshness of all the food is a vast improvement from the authentic but the flavors and the aromas are pure Abyssinian. There are many choices for those with American aversions to spicy foods but there also are many choices for those of us who love the taste of berbere and other exotic spices. Our most recent visit was on a late Sunday afternoon with friends who preferred mostly vegetarian dishes with the distinctive but less spicy taste. Everyone left raving about the excellent experience and making plants to return, soon.

Beautiful restaurant with nice ambient lighting, and wonderful service! The food was delicious, and the portion size was perfect for what we paid. My favorite was the beef tibs, we also ordered the vegetarian sampler, and it was amazing!

Great food!! They have sampler plates to get some variety which is great option as we definitely liked some dishes much better than others. They have Ethiopian beers to try as well. Great ambience, we got to sit in a nook for 2, which made the experience even more intimate.

Amazing food and service. We ordered the vegetarian plate for 2 with fish and it was very filling. We also ordered a bottle of the honey wine - an absolute favorite! I will be coming back here next time I visit DC. Thank you to all the staff for an incredible experience.

the food was delicious but the service was very bad. anytime we needed something, there were no servers to be seen (or flagged down) for extended periods. we were often without drink refills, the server brought part of our food and almost forgot the fried fish for one of our platters, and they said they would bring us little plates and more injera but the plates never came and by the time the injera had arrived we were basically finished eating. it then took a very long time to get the check (at least 20 minutes). they never came back to collect the check and our credit card so we ended up getting up from the table to pay.

Great food! With the 20% service charge, the value goes way down. Also I don’t like the order by app feature. No real interactions with my waitress so I might as well have done takeout or fast food. But again, great food.

The food was perfection. It was our first time so I didn’t know that guests use the so to order. I figured it out. We got the vegetarian sharing plate for two and two hot teas. It was a lot of food but we had good leftovers.

Outstanding Ethiopian food (doro wat and awaze tibs), great depth of flavor and spice level; unobtrusive service, comfortable space. Went for lunch after a big dinner the night before, so we didn't get the kitfo (my favorite Ethiopian dish), but definitely want to try their version next time I'm there.

Service was terrible. Despite ordering on an app right away, it took 20+ minutes to get our drinks….the places wasn’t busy…the bar definitely wasn’t busy. Food then took a long time and then we put in an additional order which we would’ve never received unless we asked for it. Food was pretty good but no better than many other Ethiopian restaurants in the city. Then took 35 minutes to get the check. Overall a really terrible experience, sadly, I would not recommend.

The food was solid but not significantly better than other Ethiopian restaurants I have visited. Mostly we were disappointed and frustrated by the service. The server insisted we order from the app on our phones. We should have read the menu more carefully. Thinking the vegetarian platters had samples of all of the vegetarian items in the menu, we order one for two people and one for one person (how they were listed in the menu). Upon receiving our food, we realized the platter for one had fewer dishes on it and the server who delivered our food (different than the one who seated us) asked why we had ordered this way. He said if he had taken our order he would have told us to order the platter for two and then some other dishes so that we could try more things. We never saw a server again until finally our original server returned long after we had finished and were waiting for our bill. The bill included 20% gratuity or we would have left a smaller tip.

I was visiting DC. I chose Ethiopic because I’d never had Ethiopian food before and Timeout rated as a must try! It was FABULOUS! Excellent food and service. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience! I highly recommend Ethiopic!

Food was fair. The veggie plate was good but the lamb was tough and overcooked. The restaurant was recommended by Time Out as one of the best in DC. I think this was way to enthusiastic of an endorsement. If you are in the neighborhood it is a nice casual spot for a nosh, but I would not go out of my way to eat there (which we did).

I didn't get exactly what I thought I ordered through the phone-scanned menu. The lamb special was tasty, but a bit tough. The cold lentil salad was odd. The two vegetarian side dishes were good.
