Always good, always fairly priced, and not so noisy that you can hear an actual conversation without screaming. Douglas the head waiter is great.
Excellent restaurant, with friendly staff and wonderful food. Every course was flavorful and cooked just right. Looking forward to returning to try out other items on the menu
Great menu, seasonal, delicious. Service is warm and extremely professional. Really good spot for locals who don't like to feel like they're caught in a tourist trap. Dining room is small, intimate and quite chic. Hard surfaces make the noise a bit bouncy, so if you're hearing impaired, may not be the spot for you. Our 2nd visit and will be back.
Such a quaint restaurant with amazing food. The ingredients are fresh and prepared to perfection. Service was impeccable. I can't say enough about this restaurant. Hidden gem.
The restaurant ran out of bread and quiches
Interesting breakfast menu, many different items. Good service to go along with the good food
Cute restaurant with good service, but it appears that the owner-chef has lost interest. Twice we've been there in the last two weeks. Once for breakfast, where the food was ok, but the eggs benedict was overly lemoned. And once for dinner (Sunday). Both times the owner-chef was missing. The dinner food was too salty (I tend to like salt, so go figure). My wife's first steak was gamey but they replaced it with another that was too salty. My beef bourguignon was more like pot roast, good for pot roast but not really bourguignon.
I compliment the waiter for how he handled the issue, including comping the flourless chocolate cake.
superb french bistro cuisine in a rustic setting with highly personalized service. highly recommend!
My wife and I were looking for something interesting around Monterey for a late dinner. We managed to get a 9:30pm reservation and had the place basically to ourselves! Service was great and noise was pretty much just us. Unintentionally spoiled :) I can fully recommend the prosciutto baked brie, the charcuterie and cheese board, and the venison was fantastic. Couldn’t pass up the flourless chocolate cake, paired with coffee. Can’t wait to go back
Our meal was wonderful. The food was excellently prepared. There was a small error in what we were served and the restaurant more than made it right, which was appreciated. It was really an outstanding evening.
all together it was fine, but not worth the price they charged for french cuisine .
Great quality of food & preparation!
Owner Operators are plugged in throughout the guests! A keeper for sure!!
Delicious food, fabulous service,
Love the menu. EVERYTHING!
Great spot for lunch. The oysters were amazing.
Amazing Service and an amazing meal. Highly recommend trying the French onion soup.
Fantastic local French restaurant! Authentically French in food and atmosphere. All delicious. Have returned many times and try new things each time. Chef Soerke Peters is a perfectionist, using all organic ingredients. Wonderful!
It was a great overall experience-service was attentive and professional. Food was excellent.
The French Onion soup was amazing. Cheese
platter was generous with a nice variety. Cozy
atmosphere-ask for a table near the fireplace.
A very cozy restaurant that serves authentic french cuisine. Some dishes may be too much for American palates (venison, rabbit), but others like deviled eggs and duck pate were excellent. Dessert crepes were delicious.
This was a birthday dinner in a restaurant we had never visited before. Food and Ambiance were French country. Service was excellent. The casulette(sp) was different than any I've had before but it was very tasty. Prices were reasonable for a French restaurant of this quality.
We had a lovely lunch and will return for dinner
Very friendly staff and cozy atmosphere. My husband and were seated near the fireplace. I ordered beef chicks - amazing and well balanced dish with a glass of merlot/ cab blend - and my husband ordered black ink pasta - same dish at the The Basil is much richer in favor and with more seafood. Some of the guests received complimentary dessert or glasses of wine, we didn’t although it was my husband birthday as I explained in the notes when making reservations.
My girlfriend would kill me if I didn't mention the escargot and steak frites. Truly amazing.
Charming French bistro that felt literally like a cozy bistro on the left bank. Terrific service and they are very true to their French roots, the menu was fairly traditional French fare done impeccably well. We will return to this gem for sure.
The service was top notch - they were so friendly and kind! The Brie with the prosciutto was also unbelievable!
Delicious dinner from beginning to the end. Wonderful wait staff that made excellent recommendations on the wine and extraordinary food. Will be returning the next time we are in Carmel.
Wonderful host and great atmosphere. Food was tasty and interesting, in particular the salads.
My only small disappointment was the handheld device used for settling the bill. The suggested tips were calculated using the post tax amount, not pretax. It’s not a material amount of money but it’s poor form. Also the text description or a 20% tip was a bit smug. I would reword.
Food was delicious, service was very good.
A lovely place with a charming atmosphere and good food. We sat near the fire on a rainy January night and felt cozy. I had the French Onion soup and goose liver pate appetizer and it was more than enough. Delish. My husband and daughter enjoyed their entrees very much. The establishment was new to offering dinner and didn't have a very wide menu, and not everything was available, but we were happy. It was near impossible to find, though, because buildings are unnumbered in Carmel and there was no sign (I think because they are changing names as they expand to dinner). Worth the hunt!
Being a Carmel local, you see restaurants come and go. You see Chefs, move around from restaurants. It doesn't take long to figure out who can really cook. Chef Soerke Peters is on of those Chefs. Wait staff pleasant. Chef always around. Just received another Green Award. He is a "hands on Chef" with a smile.
It is truly a gem in Carmel. It is a must Try. The reason we love it, it is a restaurant, That has gone back to the Traditions of Old Carmel. Food, Service with a smile, and ambience. The Chef wants your dining experience to be special. When someone orders the charcuterie platter, Chef comes out and personally slices and arranges the platter for you! If you don't give it a try, you are missing a true gem of Carmel!
Awesome chef. Friendly service. Uncomfortable wooden seats.
Food was wonderful, great taste and good menu variety. Service excellent. A great place
Amazing and cozy little French restaurant. Douglas made the experience great!!
Our first time there. What a great place. We are returning there for dinner tonight, New Years Eve !!!
Authentic and delicious French food served in a cozy, intimate setting
Hard to find
It was great in every respect.
Everything was superb.
Six of ate here Christmas weekend. The owners are very attentive to customers and the food is amazing. We all agreed that we can't wait to come back and enjoy another meal. I had the bouillabaisse. Others had the french onion soup, steak frites, boudin, pates...everything was fabulous!
Charming new local spot. Still don’t have a correct sign, and all the menu items, but quite good and fairly priced. Service is consistently attentive. Always a nice evening.
A nice, fairly priced neighborhood spot. Food is well prepared and the setting is vintage Carmel. Service is consistently good and friendly.
