Amazing service, food & ambiance!!!
Wonderful meal, comfortable and yet lively! Very attentive service without being intrusive. For seven people we ordered lots of appetizers and starters. All were delicious and would order again. For the main courses, our table ordered the filet of soul (excellent), the sea bream (very fresh), lamb chops, the mousaka (scrumptious), I was the birthday girl and ordered the filet mignon. It was the only main I would not recommend…a little over cooked. Loved the Valhalla dark chocolate dessert! The experience was such a treat! Will definitely go back and not wait for a special occasion to do so!
We had the tasting menu and it was superb. The spreads, the grilled octopus, prawns in a divine tomato-based sauce, the Mediterranean Sea Bass, lamb chops, beets, baklava and rice pudding were highlights. Loved having the “seafood sommelier” walk us through all seafood options. The only entree that we didn’t love .was the sole. Every other dish was exceptional for all four members of my table. Even the special cocktails were wonderful.
Unfortunately, we did not have service matching the extraordinary food. We were not offered clean plates between the courses. We asked three times to see a dessert wine menu. Coffee was not offered with desserts. There was awkward timing of plates being cleared. These are pleasant service-oriented people who need more training and experience to match the exquisite menu. The front desk and bar were both very well staffed.
A personal note— I think the lighting is too bright. The decor is lovely and bright so perhaps the lighting is intended to accentuate the Mediterranean feel. But for me the lighting is too bright and illuminates the entire room so we see everyone every minute. I prefer lighting to focus my attention on my table and my party.
Overall, it is a wonderful dining experience. I highly recommend this terrific new addition to the restaurant scene in downtown San Francisco!
Went for my bday with a friend. The new look on the old space is refreshing and bright . Service was great. Food is always a Michael Mina signature yumminess. One negative, the table for two had literal 4 inches between table so no intimate dinners at all hahahah till here and be able to share meals with your neighbors . We got lucky our neighbors where super nice . Also luckily everyone in the restaurant is vaccinated so social distancing not a problem .
Booked for a party of 6. No mention made of time restrictions. Most restaurants allow 2 hours for parties over 6. We were rushed throughout the meal/staff asking if we were done. We ordered a la carte so there were many plates. Eliminate the fish som. Takes up too much time and creates confusion throughout the dining room. Food quality was excellent and general service was very good. Wine list was very expensive/corkage fee $50.
We did have a problem using InKind/house account for all Mina’s restaurants. Delayed our departure. No fault of the restaurant.
You won’t find a better example of how to run a high end restaurant without being stuffy. Warm ambience, the finest trained staff, and the tastiest food. You will actually have fun while enjoying a wonderful assortment of Greek cuisine.
Poor. The loud music was unnecessary as the din of the place was adequate. Had difficulty in conversation. Lamb chops were fatty. Moussaka was very rich. Waitstaff kept pushing drinks.
Food was awesome. We had the Ornos Experience. My favorite dishes were the fish disk, grilled octopus and the pita bread with lots of dips. The venue is lively and the staff were very attentive. It was a wonderful experience.
Excelente atención y la comida súper!!!
Every dish was a tad too salty - except the salt crusted sea bream. The Spanakopita salad was especially so. The Astakos lobster pasta was overwhelmed by the tomato sauce so i couldn’t taste the freshness of the lobster. Service was very good and i loved the decor which was modern and bright.
The food was fresh & prepared beautifully.
Wow just an incredible experience, I did the tasting menu, fantastic experience, sat at the bar, the bar tenders were awesome, got to try so many different items and flavors I felt like I would have the best experience going that direction with a wine pairing as well.. service was outstanding
First impression: Carts being pushed around. So many cart pushers …servers and guests trying to get out of the way, carts maneuvering around each other clumsily….maybe they should hire a choreographer. The “fish somm” roams about with the biggest cart, repeating his spiel over and over about each fish and its preparation, which, if you could hear him through his mask and over the music, might be mildly interesting, but makes no sense whatsoever in terms of making your dining experience better. Just put the info on the menu. The whole thing reminds me of the cringey Morton’s Steak House cling-wrapped meat displays from the 1980’s. Servers and staff are terrific but the whole concept does not work.
Further impressions: it’s a fairly formal dining room with pretty formal service and very high prices serving you extremely simple fresh fish preparations that require you to spit out fins and bones. I’d much rather eat this type of food in a rustic setting for a fraction of the price…and I am someone who is generally not price sensitive when it comes to dining out.
One further note: I booked a table weeks in advance noting it was for a special occasion. Our table was just outside the service station with high traffic backing up beside our table. The whole experience was dispiriting despite the best efforts of the truly professional staff. A failure of concept, I’d say, and a surprising one given Chef Mina’s years of experience.
I never write bad reviews but this restaurant was a complete joke.
Anything you can find at TJ for less than $10 was sold to you as fine dining at this place. Hummus, Tzatziki, naan or pita bread was there. Nothing was made from scratch. only because this is Michael Minna - thats what name does. Whoever provides a great review for this place and thinks it delicious and unique is very obvious never had a real shish-kebab or an authentic Mediterranean food which is so rich, and flavorful. This is probably "unique" for people who dont travel dont have middle eastern friends or just go after the name.
Very business or merchant approach to sell cheap product for a high price. I expected it to be more luxurious with high end Mediterranean dishes. Very disappointed :(
Michael Mina never disappoints. Tasting menu was spectacular, as was the service.
Delicious seafood focused Greek Michael Mina restaurant. His places are always great. Our server Jaumaelynne is so friendly and helped us with the complicated menu for the first time. She made it a special evening. I didn’t much like the pink booths (I guess it is coral colored) Aqua would be better
Fancy schmancy and expensive, but the food was good and the décor innovative and pleasant. It's hard to gauge at this price point. It was an interesting experience and no regrets about experiencing the haute end of dining, but I'll not go again.
While the ambiance and service were nice, the food was really lacking. The lamb was fatty and raw. The taramasalata tasted like salted mayonnaise. Everything else was at best meh. For a Michael Minna restaurant, it was a disappointing experience.
Wonderful experience! Mel is there now and the service was excellent. Delicious meal!
Anniversary!! We had a great time, staff so friendly! Food delicious
We did the tasting menu, plenty of food, very good. The food is classed as Greek but there was not enough actual traditional perfectly Greek food on the menu. Nonetheless, high quality food & nicely presented as well.
Great dinner all around, large portions, delicious food and excellent and attentive service.
Restaurant was impeccably decorated, service was attentive, friendly and informative. Food was good but not great. For the price we paid didn’t get the ‘wow’ factor. Will go back again, but not high on our list
We loved the new soft look of the dining room which featured white candles in jars and willowy white draped cloth. We were warmly welcomed.
Our server was professional with a buoyant personality; and in fact, the entire staff worked the floor with care.. We ordered the tasting menu and never experienced a tasting menu like Ornos offers. Michael Mina and his Greek chef have produced a monstrous hit, serving fine food in an unstuffy atmosphere.
Opening night was great! Delicious food and very attentive service.
The dishes were a bit disappointing- nothing really stood out to us. We left unsatisfied after the meal.
One of the best dining experiences we have ever had. Spectacular food, amazing service, and overall an excellent experience. Highly recommend!
Gio, the General Manager is a great host and Elliott our server was gracious. The Waitstaff team knowledgeable and friendly. Dinner was great and tasty and the experience was wonderful!
One of the great meals of recent times, expensive but worth it. For serious foodies and a special occasion. Truly elevated cuisine, excellent service, lovely place. We loved everything. My only complaint is that the Egyptian music (the menu has an Egyptian tilt) is intrusive, overly loud, and unpleasant. Even the waitstaff said they didn't like it. I know they were striving for an integrated experience but it didn't work.
The food was unique and delicious. The atmosphere was quiet and service top notch.
This was the most expensive meal my husband and I have eaten - tasting menu for 2, wine pairing for 1 - for about $600 before gratuity.
Food was competent, but not the best we've ever had. Servers were fantastic. Ultimately, though, considering the price, and that it wasn't one of our Top 10 dining experiences, I wouldn't advocate that others go.
The Hostess was stunningly beautiful, unfortunately that was the highlight. I had the noon tasting menu with my brother. The two of us ate at 5 Michelin rated restaurants in the San Francisco area in 2 days. The tasting menu is served family style for a lot of it which I really liked we paid extra for the tuna tartar to be added, we had an amazing layout in front of us the waiter described the food..then one dish after another we thought lacked flavor, lacked seasoning, so disappointing since it looked so good. I wish it tasted as good as it looked like at atelier crenn or Manresa ..I wish I got photo taken with that hostess instead of with chef David Kinch at Manresa..I reviewed Michael Mina on another sight and they called to apologize that I was not blown away by the food which is a nice gesture I would like to try them again
Service was outstanding. Environment was excellent as well. 9 out of 10 dishes we had were perfect, with only 1 not as expected. Staff was amazing at all levels.
My first experience in Dining on this level. It won't be my last. The service was impeccable as well as the taste of the food.
Extraordinarily expensive for what was provided. Quality of food was good. We asked for advice on a circa $100 bottle of wine and the server acted offended. When sommelier came over (15 mins later after second ask) he kept guiding us to $250 bottles that were typically 4.0-4.2 level on Vivino. Ended up with an $80 half bottle. Prix fixe menu was $165 but several items had $25 up charges per course. Vegetarian prix fixe for my wife was $135 for essentially vegetables on a skewer. Total bill for two with 1/2 bottle of wine over $500. If you care about value for money this is not a good option.
My wife and I attended Michael Mina to celebrate a major milestone in business for her. The meal was excellent and quite possibly the best lunch we’ve both had in San Francisco.
Exceedingly lovely restaurant, wonderful food, overwhelming service. Max. expensive and intimidating at first. If you are able to overlook all the over-the-top descriptions of the food and focus on the main ingredient it's much easier to pick out what you want. The by-the-glass wine list is also very over-the-top price wise.
I was surrounded by various aged 'millennial' couples and, so, was completely 'invisible'. And, they had no difficulty ordering all the extremely high priced extras! Most were ultra casually dressed, no jewelry, expensive but minimalist dresses so, being 'elder' and not a San Franciscan, I was overdressed and felt uncomfortable. These are just FYI observations.
For quite awhile, there was a loud, younger, group at the bar that was intrusive. It's a smallish restaurant so that sort of thing is impossible to ignore. My husband would have hated it! (again, just an FYI)
Went for Valentine's day and it was an incredible experience! Great food, amazing presentation, and phenomenal service. You really get what you pay for - an unforgettable experience with a great meal! If you ever get to try their Hokkaido Snow Beef - don't pass it up!
