Estia - Philadelphia Ratings and Reviews
We had dinner prior to the Nutcracker and our server timed everything perfectly. The romaine salad alone is reason to return but everything we ordered was delicious. The atmosphere is elegant but not stuffy. I had forgotten how much I love this place - we will be back soon!
The food was outstanding. We had the lamb shank (fantastic, hint of anise in the marinade?), the lamb chops grilled over open fire and the crab cake...best I’ve had in years. So food was top-notch. The service although friendly was not so attentive and food arrived slowly. For ex, we were asked about dessert while our plates were still full, asked about drinks after we were asked to order...but whatever, it was delicious.
This was our third visit to Estia both prior visits were with larger parties and the food was excellent. We decided to celebrate my wife’s birthday after the Philly POP Christmas show. We started with the fried cheese and grilled Octopus appetizers they were excellent the Octopus is my favorite. We both had the branzino for the main course. I know this can be a challenging fish to fillet but there were many small bones left in the fish especially my wife’s. Just a poor job filleting the fish, unfortunate as flavor of the fish was excellent.
Our server chose out a nice white wine for us, we enjoyed it so much we purchased a bottle to bring home. The problem was he gave us a Red Bordeaux which we did not realize until we were home. The visit this time was a bit disappointing , It was an off night for sure.
We especially like the 3-course concert/show meal, always with wonderful choices of appetizer, entree & dessert. Food preparation & presentation are excellent. We had difficulty paying with combination of cash and credit cards (probably our arithmetic issues). We will request separate checks next time which I hope our waitperson is willing to do.
The ambiance is warm, and the food is superb. I've taken a friend there who grew up on the Greek island, Crete, and she said her meal was delicious and authentic. The restaurant is close to the Kimmel Center as well as many other theaters, so this spot is a smart choice when you have a show to get to. The servers ask if you're going to a show to be sure you get there on time. Estia has a wonderful theater prix fixe menu with many options to choose from.
The menu offers a little bit of everything and mostly fish. My dinner companion is allergic to all fish and seafood so that was a bit of an issue. I had the crab cake which was very good as was the arugula salad. I loved the atmosphere and the service was great. I thought it was more expensive than the quality of the food warranted.
Another fantastic meal after the theatre. We all enjoyed the theatre menu offering 3 course meal for $35. We all decided to order 3 unique appetizers, entrees , and desserts and shared them all. It was a wonderful experience! Especially enjoyed the Greek casserole and the fish of the day which is always prepared nicely. Love coming here before or after the play! Service is also top notch!
My family ( two adult children , husband and myself) went to Estia for a pre- theater dinner this past Saturday night. The restaurant is lovely and though it was full, the noise level was very low and we could talk comfortably through tour the entire meal. The table service was excellent. We all had the pre theater three course meal. Each of us had something different and all of us loved our food and desserts. The country salad was very fresh. My husband loved the boneless lamb and my daughter enjoyed the lamb chops. I had the fish of the day which was very good. My favorite was my son’s shrimp skewers with tomatoes and onions. We always take notes and vote on the best dish of the night and three out of four voted for their own.( l voted for the shrimp instead of the fish. Mine was good but Little plain). The absolute highlight of my night was manager. I didn’t get a cookie on the way in and went to take one on my way out. Unfortunately, they were gone. The lovely man went to the back to check if their were any cookies left. He was gone for a while and we had to leave for the show, so we left. He cane running after us on the street with a little bag of three cookies for my family and myself. Yes, there are still good people left in the world. Thank you for reminding me of that Estia. Kisses to that lovely, kind gentleman.
This was our first visit in many years. We didn't come back because they didn't know how to make Saginaki and it seemed over-priced. We are glad that we did because the Saginaki, along with the 3 sauce appetizer was excellent; the Hendricks Martini was made well and the entrees were very good. ( European Sea Bass and Lamb Chops) It is still pricey but well worth it. The service and seating could not have been better. A great prelude to a Philly Orchestra concert!
Ambience and service was great. Food was pretty decent but wasn’t really worth the price. $21 for a small crab cake? A small piece of crab cake $21? The crab cake was extremely good though. The grilled stuffed calamari was fair and so were the lamb chops. Service was great was really impressed by the service. Meal wasn’t filling at all but overall it was a pretty good dinner.
We had a pre-theatre dinner for my husband’s birthday. The restaurant is beautiful, and quite elegant but not fussy. We had the prix fixe menu, and even my teenaged daughter found an entree to her liking. She had the roast chicken and we had fish-all delicious. Service was great. Literally across the street from the Academy. I would definitely go back.
The service was exceptional. The three-course pre-theater menu was an excellent value with a wide variety of choices. Our selections were delicious which included the calamari, octopus, fish and lamb. Would definitely recommend and return to sample the other entrees.
I have had multiple great meals at this restaurant, which is why it's such a shame that this meal on my wife's birthday was so bad. We ordered a 2.5 lbs whole fish in salt crust and a larger order of their lamb chops medium rare. The fish which is usually shown to you and fillet'd in front of the table was just brought out plated and it was dry! I have no idea how a salt crust could possibly create a dry fish, so I assume that we never got the salt crusted fish and were given some other fish, done poorly. The lamb was on the well side of medium. The appetizers were all great, including the whole grilled fresh sardines. They were nice enough to remove the entrees from the bill, but I'm still disappointed with the experience given that it was my wifes bday.
