Estia - Philadelphia Ratings and Reviews
Absolutely the best place in Philadelphia to get salmon! It was perfectly cooked and was a generous portion. Estia has so many special touches - incredible lemony hummus that comes with the bread, amazing almond cookies and a deliciously prepared arugula salad to name a few
I had the lambchops, my girlfriend had the chillean sea bass. My lambchops were amazing but oh my god the bass was one of the best dishes ive ever tasted. We had CJ taking care of us, and he brought 5 star service to our 5 star meal. Id recommend Estia to any one of my friends and will certainly be back myself.
Have often enjoyed the fish preconcert dinner special but not this time. The portion while tasty was extremely small and even with a small trio of appetizer salads (pikilia) and baklava, not worth the “special” price.
My companions did like other choices on that special menu, but it is disappointing that the fish special at a fish restaurant would leave a reasonable person hungry.
I would have ordered off the menu had I realized this. Please offer more a la Carte fish ( not by the pound)
Food, wine, and cocktails all delicious. Pricey, but fair given the high quality of ingredients and exceptional execution, just like dining at a great restaurant in Greece. Location is perfect for pre-theater dining. Also, reservation staff went out of their way to accommodate a last-minute increase in the size of our group, so that was a huge plus too. Estia is under the radar of hip places to dine, but the food and experience is on par with anything else in center city.
Preconcert special lunch is a good value. 1st course soup needed more fish and less potatoes. It wasn’t as good as usual. Pan fried fish perfectly cooked, good portion. Yum! Potatoes were flavorful with a nice taste of lemon. Good bread and humus. This is one of the best lunches for the price. Keep up the quality!
Service was horrendous, food was good. The restaurant had about 10% of its tables filled when we came in and our server somehow still found things to do other than serve us. A couple times we'd see him standing in the corner talking with the other servers, doing absolutely nothing. Snobby attitudes and not worth the money. Food was good but when you spend $200 you expect good service, especially for the meager ration sizes. For one of Philly's premier restaurants, I'm pretty upset I gave up reservations at Del Frisco's for this place.
The ouzo was good though hehe.
Dined 2/3/18, night before Super Bowl. Had reservations for 7:45 and we arrived 7:40. Table was ready upon arrival but asked if we could have a drink at the bar before dinner. They obliged and said take your time as they’d hold our table! Nice gesture! Had couple drinks at bar but annoying that neither of our drinks were served with a napkin? Had to ask AGAIN, when we received our second drinks. Annoying x2. There weren’t any napkins on the bar either. Annoying x3.
Had 3 appetizers, the stuffed calamari (to die for), the grilled sardines ( very good), and the dolmades (to die for) along with warmed crusty bread served with smooth and simple hummus. All the apps were amazing.
She requested the Chilean sea bass w/o the tomato purée and they accommodated! Hers was perfectly grilled and buttery and flaky. I had lamb shank and although it had good flavor, I found it to be somewhat dry and barely room temperature. Not a big deal although had the bar tender been more attentive and the lamb shank been perfect, I would have given 5 stars all around.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in the city and we’ll undoubtedly be back.
Ps—they did away with the live Greek music. Bad decision on behalf of management!
Estia is a large, but well laid out restaurant that was really hopping when we got there. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable and accessible, despite the frenzy around us. The octopus was fabulous, as were the lamb chops. I was disappointed in my White Snapper, but that was the problem of the fish, not the restaurant.
The variety of fish on the menu and the quality of preparation are the hallmarks of Estia for us although this trip we indulged in lamb chops and lamb shanks, both of which were perfectly cooked as sauced. The tables are close together and the lighting dim so score 'meh' for ambience. Despite a crowd on Saturday evening our server was prompt, friendly and helpful. It is not inexpensive compared to other Center City options, but they staff works hard to make it worth the cost.
The food and service were fabulous. Attention to special needs could be better 9those who cannot eat seeds or nuts, for example0 and entree portions, ofte 1 pound each, could be smaller, especially for theater-goers who cannot take fishy doggie bag to their next stop.
Still my go-to restaurant!
This was our second time at Estia. I order the exact same thing each time--Estia chips and octopus for appetizers; then the fresh snapper, spinach rice and greens for dinner. My husband had the fish with me this time (we had picked out a 3 lb snapper), but he had the lamb the last time we were here. We both agreed, this is one of the best meals we have eaten since living in Philly (for three years now). Absolutely love this place! Pricey--$278 (with tip) for the two of us, but worth it.
Atmosphere and location very good and service was just fine. But we expected more for the price. Fish definitely fresh but nothing special, and few trimmings. Disappointed with the wilted greens we ordered since there were so few vegs with our fish. Chocolate dessert fabulous.
We have dined at Estia many times. . It is one of our favorite restaurants to visit, when we’re in Philly. . This last time, however, while the food and the ambiance were excellent, the service left a great deal to be desired. . We told our waitress that we were on a time clock, but, to no avail. . The timing of the service didn’t allow us to finish our meal, and we had to rush out the door to make a Philly Pops concert. . We allowed an hour and forty five minutes to have dinner. . We’ll return, however. .
Outstanding food, service and ambiance. I really enjoyed the meal. But unless you do the theater price-fixed dinner, which is a great value, the rest of the menu is quite pricey. The appetizers, salads and side dishes are fully priced with no lower priced options and you want to order a side dish if you order the whole fish entrees which are not served with any accompaniments
