Estia - Philadelphia

Went for lunch with my family, it wasn’t busy and we had a beautiful table right in the center of the first floor where we could see the kitchen and fresh fish display which all looked to be very high quality. The lunch menu is a fantastic value, the octopus, calamari, grilled sardines and lobster linguini were some of the best we’ve ever had. The tile fish special could have looked a bit nicer on the plate, but the cook and flavor of the dish was perfect.
We were so fortunate to be seated in one of the booths in the back of the restaurant. We were celebrating my son's recent engagement and he loves Estia and wanted to bring his fiance there (she is from Florida). I made reservations, which were honored, but hadn't mentioned the occasion in advance. I did mention it to our server, and he so thoughtfully brought a lovely dessert. There will be other dinners, but this one will be amongst the most memorable! As an aside, I also like the Radnor location, but there is a different vibe in the center city location - perfect for this occasion.
Totally enjoyed the food and the ambience. Outstanding humus, seafood and lamb chops. Would recommend to everyone. Memorable and enjoyable meal.
The Philadelphia location didn’t compare with my experience at the Radnor location. Our appetizers were good but the fish was not fresh or properly served. We ordered a whole fish and the waiter did not know how to filet it It was presented as a pile of pieces rather than a fillet. He then told us “you want it this way...flakey”. Getting past the presentation, the fish was flavorless and didn’t taste very fresh. I’ve only had positive experiences and Radnor but would never visit the Philadelphia location again.
Over-priced RAW lamb chops. No reduction in the bill even though I had to wait 20 minutes to cook to temperature.
Saki was phenomenal per usual! We tried a variety of dishes but our tried and true is the dover sole and the lamb chops. Excellent!
Food and service excellent. Lamb chops were outstanding.
We had a reservation at 7:45, were promptly seated but did not order until 8:30, after we notified the manager, who was very apologetic. Things moved along after that. Food was mediocre and the pasta was a tad crunchy as if sitting under a heat lamp a while. Ambiance is very nice.
Service, food & drinks are excellent. You have to have the octopus....fantastic!! Great pre-theatre menu!
Everything was perfect as always. The staff handled a very nusy night flawlessly, with a smile and making it look effortless as they did.
We had a fabulous time celebrating my nieces engagement! We had a private booth which made it very intimate. Service was excellent and everything about the meal from appetizers to dessert was amazing! We usually go to Estia before the theater and have never been disappointed. Truly a gem in Philadelphia
Excellent service, Great food, good portion size o main entree!
I ordered braised lamb shank. After a longer than usual wait what came out was a lamb loaf that looked like it was made from scraps of lamb. I would rather they let me know they were out so I could choose something else rather than tried to pass it off. As we had waited longer than we wanted I didn’t say anything. Our last visit was very good. My husbands food was good and the kale salad we shared was very good. I’m ambivalent about returning.
Perfect restaurant for any evening.
We have gone to Estia a number of times before, as we like seafood and Greek food, and it is in the area of theaters we usually wind up in. The service is excellent, the food well-cooked and tasty. It does get a bit too noisy at peek times, but otherwise the ambience and food make the visit worthwhile.
Every time I go there whether in town or in Radnor it is an absolute winner.
Great food, great service, great time!
My third visit. The restaurant was not crowded at all. Lovely atmosphere. I managed to get the table I asked for. The food was great. Why then was the waiter so hurried with our order and had an attitude problem? Then he literally threw the bill at us at the end of the meal . Very strange and totally out of character of restaurant. We will however go back
Beautiful space and ambiance, wonderful selection of fish prepared elegantly, great service. Family owned and operated highly recommend for business, for family or special ocassion. Great experience!
This is one of my favorite restaurants. I would not recommend going on Mother’s Day. The waiters were way too busy to attend to our table in the manner they normally do. We asked for lemon for our water and never received them. The wine prices have increased considerably so we did not order any which is a first for us. The food was a bit dry and over cooked but we will return because we know they can do better; just not on a holiday. We still love Estia’s
Food was average, service was excellent.
We came back to Estia for a Mother’s day brunch. The regular menu was offered and we chose the prix fixe lunch at $20, 2 courses. Food was great and our server was friendly and attentive. My wife especially enjoyed her cocktail called the Fig N Fizz!
perhaps the best lamb chops ever
sardines were just ok
“sesame crusted tuna” was good but no crust.
The food was lovely as was the atmosphere! Some dishes could be priced a bit more modestly, but this was not a major concern and we enjoyed the food! I was at times disappointed in the service, as we approached the menu in an unconventional way by sharing a few appetizers and entrées as a table— our waiter seemed uncomfortable with us not ordering full entrées (and instead eating family style) and this made us a bit uncomfortable.
Great food. Great table for our party of five. We celebrated a birthday and also enjoyed the theater dinner menu ! It was delicious. We will surely visit again
Estia in Philadelphia is one of our favorite restaurants and never disappoints!
It was our first time there. We wanted to celebrate our daughter's graduation. She had heard of your establishment, however, never had gotten there yet. The hours of operation worked well with our plans. Making a reservation was easy with open table. When we found we needed to change our time on the same day because of our event ending much earlier than expected, Sarah, who answered the phone was so pleasant and so accommodating. I was very happily surprised at the lovely decor inside!! Very comfortable and beautiful. Our waitress was very professional and pleasant and answered all our questions. The food was very good. We will definitely be returning!!
Thank you for making our celebration special!
I really like this restaurant and have been there a number of times. The food is excellent and the pre fix lunch menu is a great value. The service is normally very good but during this visit it was poor. The server was very nice but disappeared after taking my order. Someone else brought my salad and I had to wait a while for it to be cleared. I had to ask for more water. I was not asked if I wanted ground pepper. The server did not check up on me and was not in the dining room attending to tables like the other servers were. Once I received my dessert she stayed in the dining room but more of her tables filled at that time. I was disappointed but this isn't usually the case.
We had two guests who have not been to Estia for a few years. They both had beautiful and big salads for their entrees. One had the seared tuna, the other the octopus. They enjoyed them immensely.
We had our usual prix fixe. The fish of the day was cooked to perfection as always.
Two of use for lunch. Her: halibut soup.excellent with generous pieces of tender fish. Mediterrian sea bass perfect size for lunch. Me: calamari cooked in white wine sauce, tasty & relatively tender. Two skewers: one shrimp which were perhaps a little overdone, the other chunks of tender chicken with a small salad. A glass of wine each. Enjoyable. My second visit...I’ll be back!
always love lunches at estia. addicted to the chopped romaine salad and mixed seafood kabobs. the swordfish is dreamy — the shrimp perfection. service is invisibly attentive. and quiet enough to sit and chat as if you’re in your own home. my always favorite go-to lunch spot.
Fantastic food that is delicious and so fresh that eating a large amount doesn't make you feel bloated or stuffed.
Lamb shank was tasteless and overcooked. Tuna tartar was not so good either.
Utterly delicious! Perfect dining option pre-theatre.
Absolutely a recommended restaurant in downtown Philly. The seafood is amazing. Try the lamb chops as well.
Estia is and as always been a reliable place to eat well. They are accommodating and appreciate if after dinner reservations are made one has to leave at a certain time. We had fish and it was delicious, not overcooked. The salad and the spanokopita were fine. The walnut cake delicious. It is a wonderful restaurant for good food, accommodating staff and time considerations.
It seems that whenever I use Open Table to make a reservation at Estia we are always seated at one of the worst tables in the house. This time we were seated at a table for 4 located at the top of the stairs to the downstairs rest rooms (a very high traffic area).
Perhaps we hit a bad day. I didn't get what I ordered, by husband's meal was pretty dismal. One chicken skewer with some sad french fry type potato. Our service was pretty spotty. We had to get out to make a show, so accepted and moved on. We will try again in the future.
