The food was amazing! We were late for our reservation but they were able to get us in anyway. The waiter was great. Everything was wonderful EXCEPT when we were paying, the buser (guy in a spiked vest) came over and told us our table time was up. We were gathering our things and he came over lifted up my drink, cleared everything off the table, reset it and told the next guests that they could be seated AS I WAS GETTING MY STUFF TOGETHER. So rude and unnecessary!!! I don’t think I’ve ever felt so disrespected by restaurant staff in my life! I wouldn’t go back after that. There are plenty of amazing restaurants in NYC - no need for that kind of treatment.
Douglas was our server and he was incredible!! With a packed house, he still made sure to check on us 4 girls every so often - keeping our waters full, and checking on our drink status for the unlimited drinks 1.5 hour brunch. Good times!
Very weak service from beginning to end. Multiple things charged incorrectly on our check which added another 15minutes to get sorted out.
I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. We booked a reservation on Friday for Saturday and it quickly became apparent why they had availability at prime time on a Saturday in LES. The first drink I ordered was a margarita which was obviously made with lots of sour mix and tasted like a $6 drink rather than the $10+ it cost. Then we were brought the wrong wine, the wrong food and when the correct food was brought out, it tasted mediocre at best. I will say that the waitress was very nice and did her best to resolve the issues, but we will never go back.
Food was terrible. Service was friendly but the meal was greasy, poorly seasoned, overcooked- really inedible.
Service was great but the only one person enjoyed their food (steak and eggs)
I work in hospitality/the service industry so I understand getting people in and out. However a man (maybe the manager) came up to us at 4:27pm to remind us of the policy. I went to the bathroom and came back. At 4:33pm he came back and aggressively told us it was time to go. Meanwhile the three tables next to us were seated before us and were not asked to leave. I had not sat down because I knew it was time to go. I was not in inebriated so I was fully aware of everything. The approach was just a bit much. It honestly just left a bad taste in my mouth. Going forward perhaps the approach can be a bit lighter.
My gnocchi was burnt and we didn’t get food for an hour and a half! I called ahead specifically to confirm if the hole table was required to do the open bar and they said no. When we got there they said we had to. Very Confusing.... ive been here multiple times but seems like they get very confused with large parties bc it was a MESS.
They definitely push the open bar option. It’s a great value, but we had some people who just dont drink enough for it to be worth it. I will clarify that I think that’s when they get more flustered. I’ve never had a problem when I order from the prefixe menu. This time was just a different experience.
We were a little skeptical at first given a confused hostess and being seated next to a very loud group, but the meal and our server were amazing! Pork belly tacos were to die for
Noise from the bar travels up to the dining areas, making it a bit hard to converse. Drinks were reasonably priced ($12 for a cocktail). Manchego mac n cheese and the fries were the best parts of the meal. The kale salad had a nice lemony dressing.
Food was great but the only downside is seating people in the bar/waiting area. We had to ask to move because people were just all over us and not respecting personal space. That’s my one complaint - after a certain time they shouldn’t seat people at those two tables. I must say the hostess was swift in moving us so that was great and the waiter was great too. Love this place!
Something for everyone, even picky eaters! We ALL enjoyed our delicious meals and the yummy cocktails too!!!
$1 oysters for happy hr...I had like 15 myself.
I was very pleased with food and the happy hr food menu.
My birthday celebration at Essex was perfect. We had a small wait for our table but the hostess was quick to get us drinks while we waited. Our waiter Nick was fantastic & on top of our bottomless brunch never letting us run out of drinks. The music gave us a cool vibe and made it feel like a fun upbeat brunch without being too wild. Will definitely return.
Service was excellent. Lobster Mac and cheese was A1
We came on a whim for Brunch one Sunday. We waited a few minutes passed our reservation time for the table, which we didn't mind, and the host was very gracious and communicative, so we were off to a good start. Then we sat down. I said I would do the bottomless brunch, my friend told the server I will just have one drink, but was charged anyways for the bottomless price (even after being told one drink is $7). Our service was pretty inattentive from start to finish. If we wanted more coffee or water or a drink or syrup, we always had to look for him and ask for it. The other server seemed pretty busy, too. Then, they tried to seat a large party next to us with, I'm not kidding you, 4 inches of space between our table and their's. Luckily a manager saw and came over and repositioned everything for a little more space. What saved the experience was the food. I was, at this point, expecting mediocre at best brunch food, but the duck hash, though quite fatty, was quite delicious, and the banana chocolate chip pancakes were fantastic! We ate every bite. Then had to flag down our server to pay.
Food was good but atmosphere was more like a loud night club, not a restaurant. Management failed to control several large groups who were out of control thus the noise level was excessive.
Overall, great experience. I would have rated it 5 stars; however, as we were getting ready to leave, we had an uncomfortable and annoying experience. We were signing the check, when a guy in a black vest with spikes, walked to our table and pulled it away from us (as we are sitting down). He said that we had to go because there was a private party and literally dragged us out. We were singing the check and had discussed moving to another section, so there was absolutely no need for that. Even though the waiter was great and apologetic, this was uncalled for and rude (even for NY standards).
We really enjoyed our bottomless brunch at Essex. The place was PACKED but that didn’t faze the waitstaff. They were efficient and pleasant and kept our Bloody Mary’s coming without us having to ask. The portions were huge and each offering was cooked perfectly — an accomplishment since many breakfast places don’t get the eggs right. And the mac and cheese with apple chicken sausage was to die for.
We also received a lovely surprise — complimentary dessert to mark a birthday occasion.
Great as usual!
Love Essex food is consistently good and a great happy hour
The place was dirty.
The front dining area reeked of garbage.
The employee that brought the food out didn’t even tell us there weren’t any home fries left , also unbeknownst to my waiter.
He just put it on the dining table and walked away.
The bathroom has no toilet paper and no hand soap. Food was COLD. Never coming back to place. I used to love it. But they have turned to trash
The place is great .. we got the brunch package that comes with unlimited mimosas, screw drivers or Bloody Mary's . the waitress made sure our glasses was never empty. On the other hand the food was not so good .. it was not hot ...and seemed as if it was rushed. The eggs was watery, the shrimp was bland and the biscuit was very hard. I've been here twice before so I know hey can do much better.
Always a good time here.
So amazing 😘😍😍
We loved bottomless brunch at this spot. The service was phenominal and our drinks were never empty. The Benedict is great, too!!
food was pretty poor, and cocktails were terrible. bar staff looked miserable, and so did the attempts at cocktails. saturday night was busy, but the calamari tasted fishy and of dirty frier oil, and was a little soggy. Lobster in lobster mac was also fishy (not a good sign). Bread for veggie burger was like a little cesars pizza crust - ie tasted of nothing bread. The salad on veggie burger looked like it came from a salad graveyard and was soggy. Food was yelled to our table and unceremoniously shoved in front of us by an angry kitchen troll. Server was nice and tried to delight us, but he didn't have much to play with... So sadly they lost me as a customer.... Good vibe
Sat us right away.
Food took ages to come out. One hour for aps.
1:45 hours for main course
Operationally this place is a mess despite the waitress was nice and the food was good.
They did comp us drinks.
Creative Food at a great price. The lamb chops were especially good. Server was very friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitley be back.
Overall it was chaotic to say the least. The hostesses were not easily identifiable in the sea of people waiting, so it seemed like everyone was confused about who to talk to and how to check in for their reservations. Waiting was ver chaotic. We were constantly being pushed around and asked to move out of the way. I don't think there is enough physical space to support the amount of people who come here during brunch. I understand that Sunday brunch is probably a very busy time, and this is a popular restaurant for brunch, but we were seated almost an hour after our reservation as well. We were offered drink tickets to help pass the time, but there were so many people we couldn't even get to the bar until right before we were seated (and then it was too late). On a positive note, the staff was very apologetic and attentive after we were seated, which helped things, aside from the food being good. They are just lucky that we stayed to be seated because several members of my party were ready to leave beforehand. It was also incredibly loud so very hard to hear everyone talking as we were seated.
Mimosas were horrible. It was Tropicana with a splash of twist of champagne. We were asked to leave our seats after an hr to make room for a party when we had a reservation. Then had to wait 20 min at the bar for a horrible last mimosa. Will not be returning very disappointed
My overall experience was great! However, I did not appreciate the hostess making my party wait 20-30 mins for a table meanwhile I had made my reservations a week in advance. We ended up sitting at the bar and getting not so great service.
Went here for brunch with friends. High energy, great drinks, a great choice of menu & close to the subway. I will definitely be coming back soon!
Came here on a gilt city deal that was well worth it. The food was great, the drinks were really strong, and the service was excellent. Our sever Kaley was funny, down to earth, and attentive.
Essex has a great bottomless brunch deal but that's about all they're good for. $35 for bottomless mimosas, screwdrivers and bloody mary's including an entree. The food was very subpar and there wasn't really a vibe in the restaurant. The servers were good with making sure your glass was always full but if you're looking for a fun environment with good food, this isn't the place.
Great Brunch Spot. Amazing food with quick, friendly service at a great price. Also loved the warehouse vibe.
Needed a last minute reservation for 9. They were so accommodating. Our server was absolutely lovely and the food was delicious! The lobster Mac and cheese was heavenly!
