XL, best waiter hands DOWN. He really cares about customers having a great time and was very friendly and attentive. I will always request him every time I go to the restaurant. This has become one of my favorite brunch restaurants in the area and I always have a wonderful experience at Essex.
Essex has down bottomless brunch justice with their reasonable time window, entree pricing, and prompt service. I've gone two Sundays in a row now with slightly different experiences, but nothing that screamed overall inconsistencies in the restaurant's ability to care for their patrons. Would recommend for groups. Conversations may be difficult to have given the acoustics and time of day.
An absolutely spectacular find. We walked from 29th and Park to get there. Not a bad walk on a summer’s evening. Drinks were reasonably priced. The calamari was amazing. It came with an avocado dipping sauce that we ordered seconds of because it was so scrumptious. We will return!
Not sure if it was due to 4th of July holiday but, the service was terrible, the dood wasn’t worthy and they ran out of some drinks. Definitely will not go back.
Fun place for an evening out. We had the two course dinner that included our alcoholic drinks. The (dare I say) delicious food was well prepared and served in a timely fashion. We also added the peanut butter pie for dessert, again very tasty. We would return.
We dined here for an early dinner on July 4th with a small group of friends. our experience was not the most pleasant. The floors were sticky, the waiters were disheveled and we paid a lot for food that was poor quality. Our waiter was completely checked out and we even saw him washing his hand using the water from a coffee machine spigot in the main dining area. Would not recommend.
Amazing experience per usual. Even though someone next to us couldn't handle their liquor, our server did an amazing job of accommodating us and making us feel even more comfortable in spite of the situation.
This is my new go to restaurant for when I want to have a little of everything. The wait staff is so awesome. The food is always great and my BF raves about the burger.
They have a happy hour until 8pm as well (check for specific days).
I love this place !! Amazing food and amazing service as well as quality of everything!
food was subpar, drinks were good, decent service,.
Brunch was just ok. We split French toast and an omelette— food just wasn’t that good.
Our Go-To Brunch spot in the lower east side. (GET THE LOBSTER BENEDICT!)
The table max time sucks but everything else was great!
Staff was great!
We have a wonderful brunch at Essex! The food, staff and atmosphere were amazing!!
Super loud with people talking over each other. No friendly staff. They refuse to give us desert due to the bunch menu. Speaking of bunch menu. Not so good for vegans. Table are super close to each other. Unable to get out of your easily/keep hearing other people conversation. Not ever going back. Hope this was helpful.
Food is great and they have a great happy hour. The problem is that you can’t use Open Table if you bought a Pulsed promo deal.
Glacially slow and disorganized service, but the food is excellent, and the space, interesting. If you go for the food alone, and you're ready to wait a long time between courses or seeing a server, it's not a bad place.
Amazing service, wish you could hear the music upstairs. We went for brunch and It seemed like the place to be was downstairs since the music was good down there. Otherwise, perfect !!
This place has changed into a Day time club with an ID check in the front at 3PM on a Saturday. Way too loud and everyone’s screaming because they either can’t hear and/or are drunk.
Our experience was amazing. The food and service was exceptional. I will be back.
My husband and I came to Essex for brunch and weren’t disappointed. We ordered bottomless mimosas as well as the French toast and short rib hash. The food was delicious and the service was spectacular. Every time our mimosas dipped below the half way point in our glasses they were topped off. Our waiter was so friendly and cheerful. We would definitely come again!
Mo was the best
Had such a great time at brunch the drinks keep on magically refillin
Went for my birthday bottomless brunch. It couldn’t have went more according to plan. Although we didn’t get pitchers of mimosas on our table like I hoped, the servers were constantly checking our table to ensure our glasses were full (we didn’t need pitchers at all). They do give a good amount of food along with the brunch package so you definitely get what you pay for. Mimosas were great and food was good. Honestly I forgot the bloody marys and screwdrivers were included, but that’s fine.
I’d say the word “noise” has a negative connotation to it. I actually liked the fact that it wasn’t quiet like a library or I can hear conversations at other tables. You have to talk kinda loud in my ideal brunch atmosphere (we are drinking mimosas after all.) Overall would recommend and would come back again. My party expressed they were impressed with my choosing of the venue.
There was plastic and hair in one of our burgers which we had to get switched. Also, the server refused to give us bottomless mimosas after one hour thinking our 90 mins are up. He wouldn't even come near us to talk. After a while, he came and we had to prove that it had only been 60 mins. He kept ignoring us when we were trying to order something.
Waiter never introduced himself. Have no clue what his name was. Not friendly at all.
Oysters came out and no description as to where they from. The shrimp and avocado salad had the soggiest spinach in it. Lacked flavor. The chicken pops as an appetizer were horrible, all fat and very small.
I ordered the blackened catfish. It was drowning in a sauce that I can’t even begin to describe. The catfish had no flavor at all.
Overall, very poor meal. Never bothered with dessert.
We had great waitress. 5 star service. Arrived 20 early and was seated immediately. It's a must return for us.
Staff was amazing and food delicious!
The food and the wait were AWFUL. The waitress was sympathetic and did her very best. We tipped her well, knowing it wasn’t her fault.
We arrived at 6:00 on a Sunday night - the bar was more crowded than the restaurant. We ordered our food and drinks. And waited. And waited. And waited. We got a basket of dry bread. And waited. And waited. We watched the party of 3 who had arrived later than we had get their food. Because it was appetizers? We were also a party of 3 and had ordered a cheeseburger, a grilled chicken dish, and scallops with risotto - no appetizers. Not difficult dishes.
After an HOURLONG wait - the food arrived. No cheese on the burger. Scallops so over cooked, they tasted like rubber. Plain rice with some veggies tossed in, not risotto. The chicken breast was also dry, with some potato sticks tossed on the plate. There was a very loud (drunk) (Sunday night) (Mother’s Day?) party that moved from the restaurant to the bar and continued to make a scene. We couldn’t get out of there fast enough.
VERY DISAPPOINTING. We live nearby and had high hopes. We won’t be back.
The ambiance is good, the staff was friendly however the food was mediocre.
We needed a table where we can have a stroller next to us because we have an infant, they were very accommodating. We were celebrating mother's day and they forgot 1 omlette, we had to wait 5 mins for one person's food. When the check came everything was priced as bottomless brunch when none of us had a drink. They fixed it and didn't charge us the plate that came late. So mixed feelings about this restaurant.
Great place, fun ambiance and drinks coming in quickly! Would definitely go back.
Yes, there was music, but so much noise was coming from the all around us, we could not even hear it. Many groups with Birthday celebrations. Unlimited drinks is a big plus and service was excellent, but I do not see how this was worth $50 per person plus tip for a group of 11. Its a little cheaper for a smaller group. It included one regular branch dish; not even coffee.
For 11 people we spent $700.00.
Loved the ambiance and the hospitality
Excellent service. Food came out piping hot and well-timed. A bit noisy but generally a nice vibe. Surprisingly good wine list. Overall, a very nice evening. Will definitely go back.
The service was very good. My partner and I dined at Essex to experience their Unlimited brunch. Unfortunately, these days, most restaurant's "unlimited" brunch are very limited. Diners are mandated to 2 hours. NOT at Essex, however! The entire waitstaff was vigilant and diligent in refilling my glass with mimosas. Even when my glass was half-full, there was a server whom suddenly appeared to refill my glass.
My partner and I will be returning to Essex again for brunch. We are also excitedly considering returning to experience dinner at the restaurant.
The food was just okay. We had the rigatoni and meatballs, chicken lollipops, sliders, and avocado and shrimp salad. The salad was bland...there was no acid or salt to balance the fat of the avocado and the shrimp were slightly overcooked. The lollipops we're tasty but room temp when they came out. And the rigatoni was boring.
We had a reservation for dinner at 5 on Sunday, but was told the kitchen closed from 5 to 6 pm and we were not inform even though I received a call before. At that time its only drinks available. But the waitress was very nice and have us sit and inform us we may order dinner a little earlier. This is the only set back and I wish I were inform regarding the above policy or they should block the reservation time slot.
If you're catching up with friends or just need a getaway with no stress this is the place to go. Our server, I believe his name is Raul was very hospitable. I would definitely come back and recommend this place. Thank you for a great brunch!
