I lobe Essex. Great spot for brunch.
Enjoyed everything about this place. Definitely returning!!
Ambience and food was good, but our waitress was somewhat unhelpful when we asked for recommendations when ordering. My friend asked about the gnocchi and the waitress flat out told her it was good and she should get something else. On the other hand, my other friend made a special meal request to basically mix parts of two different dishes and she was happy to do that.
We needed a delicious, nearby, warm spot where we’d be in and out within an hour to catch a band a few blocks away. Essex delivered! There was a gaggle of ladies seated next to us so obnoxious other patrons had left without ordering and the hostess and servers made every effort to make it more bearable without causing a scene. Props to the folks who work at Essex on a Friday evening!!!
My favorite brunch spot in NYC.
Food was good but drinks were a little to the weak side, I guess because they are part of the bottomless brunch. The staff was dressed like they came from a rock concert or something like that but our waitress was attentive.
Upon entering the music was super loud but the beat was good. We went upstairs to be seated and you could tell that they found a space for every table in the establishment, so it was TIGHT! to say the least. We both thought the music should have been lowered so people could hear one another. We noticed that we had been sitting for quite sometime and no one came to take our order and just when I was about to complain our waitress Mayala came with water and Mimosas. Soon after we placed our order and then the table behind us broke and all the food and condiments were all over the four people that sat there, so I am sure the bill was comped as it should have been. After the cleanup a bus boy brings another 4man table up and began drilling the nails into a new table while we all turnaround to look. TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL!!!
Food arrives and it was delicious, I ordered "The Aristocrat" and my partner ordered "The Southerner" totally worth ordering, but we noticed after our meal we were never offered the complimentary bread and butter and neither did our neighbors. Mayala explained that the busboy should have brought it. Personally I don't think its' fair for her to share her tips with people who are not working for it.
Mayala was a lovely young lady and she needs to be supported properly.
Not sure if I would come back unless i had earplugs or came on a different day. BUT THE FOOD WAS DELISH
The service was wonderful. The food was great. I will go to again.
Our waitress was amazing, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect! I would recommend all of the Essex locations!
Wonderful spot for date night. Great food - we had the short rib sliders, lamb chops, steak and lava cake. Everything was absolutely delicious. The service was even better, our server was outstanding. We will definitely be back.
Happy hour is great. Food has declined lately tho. The steak used to come with yummy mashed potatoes and green beans. Now the side is a “hash” of giant undercooked Brussels sprouts and grease bomb potatoes. Still a bargain for an early dinner and drinks. Always great service.
I am very happy i got a chance to have a Christmas Day Dinner at Essex with my husband. The food was so delicious and atmosphere was very romantic. The place was full but not noisy. We spent a great time and I would highly recommend this place for quiet romantic evenings with your second half.
Yearly brunch at Essex! Never lets us down!
Excellent vibe and service!
Amazing loved it !!
This place is a great party if you wanna get a bottomless sunday brunch! It’s a little noisy with all the people shouting and getting progressively more drunk but that’s what you should want from a Sunday brunch anyway!
Good food but wayyyyyy too noisy. We couldn't hear anyone talk. Some people actually left our table before ordering as the music was too loud...
Young crowd, extremely loud, which seems to almost be the point. Hopping bar scene, which is nice. Food is better than I expected but still only ok and the service is what you'd expect from a place that seems cater to the 25-35 crowd. Tables very close together which wouldn't be a problem except half the tables seemed to have large parties - 6-12 people so an intimate dinner with a date is overshadowed by that.
Not exciting from the outside, but inside it was great.
Promptly shown to our table and seated, but had to wait nearly an hour for our food. They did bring us bread and kept our drinks topped up, but it was a very long wait.
Dinner was worth waiting for: we had gnocchi with shrimp and NY strip with Yukon mash. Both delicious and well executed. Very happy and would recommend and return.
Waitress was great . For brunch that offers bottomless Mimosas they need to have something of some kind of side biscuits , bread , pastry etc for someone to eat while waiting for food . It’s a brunch place .... none of these things to be able to purchase is ridiculous .
Great food. Great service. Great deal on pulsd
I went for my birthday brunch and had such a wonderful experience. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the music was great.
The food is very good and consistent. Your glass is never empty when you’re having unlimited mimosas. The staff is nice and accommodating. I visited this place seven times already and each time gets better and better. This is my favorite place to brunch. I will continue to brunch here.
This was our second Thanksgiving at Essex, unfortunately this experience did not live up to the first. It was a prix fixe dinner where everything seemed thrown together for speed. All the sides of the turkey dinner were served in a sort of soupy ensemble. The desserts, chocolate mousse cake, and pumpkin cake, were inedible. Essex is usually a better restaurant. This just wasn’t their night.
Waitress was excellent.
Loved the atmosphere: dim lights with candles and jazz music. Order the gnocchi pasta when you go, it’s excellent.
Took a gamble on this place, I read a mix of reviews. I wanted to go to Beauty & Essex but couldn’t get a reservation. Let me start off by saying I was blown away at the food excellent. I had the short rib hash, and my fiancé had the Essex Burger and her sister had the Mexican Matzo Brei... the food was surprisingly delicious. The waitress was a little inattentive for refilling drinks but we left there buzzed. I would definitely go again. And for $35 a person you cant go wrong
Mediocre food, bad service. Good vibe. If the sevice was better I would give the food another try.
Our sever kaylee was incredible! She really helped make celebrating my friends birthday a breeze. The food here is awesome!
Food came quickly. Waitress kept leaving us when we’d start to ask questions
Turtle Bay comes to the Lower East Side! Seriously, the bro-iest dining experience I’ve yet had south of 34th street. Made a reservation blindly & out of desperation - hours before dinner on a Friday night. We had no idea what to expect. I don’t think we could have predicted how cheesy & lame this place is. My number factor of whether a place is going to suck is if it has a flatscreen tv - this place had about 3. The décor was off the mark. The music was the absolute worst - club music from like 5-10 years ago (????) Acoustic design was awful - half way through our meal a group of 8 [who looked like they were famished after that long ride in from weehawken - and had to yell to talk to another (combo of tiled walls, loud music & ceiling height), so we couldn’t hear ourselves and had to yell too. Food was fine - like a step above a Long Island diner maybe. Potato pancakes were good. Kale salad with chicken breast was fine, edible. The service was great, we had a very sweet & prompt server. In the end we had a nice time bc of our own conversation & joy to be with friends. I’d rather be with good friends at a crappy restaurant than with an assh#le at Per Se. So If you’re going to Essex with good friends, thumbs up. If you’re going with an assh#le stay home!
Tl;dr the best thing about this restaurant is its availability
I have been here a few times before but this particular time the process of checking in for your brunch reservation was extremely confusing. And the doorman was EXTREMELY rude, I would NOT want my restaurant represented by such a rude individual. He was screaming at everyone and made you feel like you were the same as everyone else and your business was not appreciated. “Everyone has a reservation” he would say to parties walking in. He might as well have said “you’re no different than anyone else and we don’t care if you’re here or not.” If I were management at this place, I would speak to him about being respectful to the people paying money to eat at this restaurant. I would not return based on the extreme rudeness of the doorman alone. There are plenty of other options for bottomless brunch in the city that appreciate your business more than this place clearly does.
Good food, cool atmosphere. A bit too noisy but worth it.
For anyone who is thinking about doing a Bottomless Brunch here with a large group, remember that the tables are on a 1 hour and 30 minute schedule. That means that you get bottomless drinks for 1 hour and 30 minutes but you also have to finish your food and pay your check within that time.
That being said, the food was good but the waiter was SO RUDE as he tried to rush us out of the restaurant (He told us to "hurry up and pay" multiple times). They even have a bouncer/enforcer who forcibly escorts you out if you stay past your allocated time. If you're looking for a relaxed and laid-back brunch place where you can spend quality time with your friends, this is NOT the place.
The waitress kept hovering trying to take our plates when we were clearly still eating.
The food was delicious, drinks were fantastic, and it was made 10 times better with the awesome service of our waiter, Mo! Totally going back!!!!
It was a decent dinner. Service was quick and the food was hot and good overall for the price.
LOV THE FOOD. DONE JUST RIGHT. SERVICE IS FRIENDLY BUT IT GETS BUSY AND THE STAFF IS A LITTLE OVERWHELMED. THEY DO TRY. I LIKE THIS PLACE FOR BRUNCH AND DINNER.
Our Bottomless Brunch was perfect in every way! Amazing service, delicious food and drinks. We'll be back!
Had a great time. Ambiance high energy, a bit loud, hard to hear one end of the table from the other. Food better than expected. Service was a bit rushed. Food came very quickly, before we had finished our cocktails and appetizers. Would go again, but with a smaller group.
