Essex Ratings and Reviews
I sat at a three seater that was extremely close to the bar. People were literally on top of me and my friends, it was uncomfortable. It was extremely loud and caught myself yelling just to converse with my friends seated at the table. My food order was also incorrect and the food in my opinion wasn't great in flavor. My fries were also overcooked. I would only recommend this restaurant for vibrant bar scene, if that's what you're into.
I would also recommend this restaurant for larger parties. At least they can have room on the upper level.
The food at Essex is delicious and our waitress was great. Very popular brunch spot with bottomless drinks. While we were signing the check a rude waiter came over to us and said we had to finish our drinks at the bar. We hadn't reached our time limit on the table yet but they rushed us out in a very rude manner. Loved the meal but left disappointed and upset.
From the beginning everything was good. Got our drinks that was ok. The starter arrived - boom pork belly tacos, and they where amazing. After that everything went down the drain... service was horrible, they become mad at us for not ordering more drinks. And the main course was a sad story. The salmon with quinoa tasted ok, but the salmon was over cooked. The other dish was a burger with fries. The fries was still frozen... and come on do your own fries!!!! The burger meat was ok and the bun to.
If you decide to go there, eat the pork belly and be prepared for a horrible service.
I would not go back even if it was free!
My only complain is the music. There was only one genre of music playing and when we asked the DJ if we could request one song since we were celebrating a bday, the request was denied. It was a large party of 11 ppl, and it would have been nice to hear top 40 instead of house music for 3 hours.
This is my second visit to Essex and unfortunately, it wasn't as good as my first visit. After arriving for our 11:15 visit we were seated upstairs in a timely manner, but we felt like we were on the clock the moment we sat down. Two members of my party ordered the southern and found that it was bland and drenched on gravy. While the energy is great I was hoping for a little less noise at 11am! Also the ladies room was a mess!
Six of us arrived at 7:40 for a confirmed 7:45 reservation, and they had us in computer for 10pm which was weird and made no sense. They did handle very quickly and got us seated immediately. However, then the little things started - said they were out of iced tea; painfully slow at replenishing our very tiny water glasses; and worst of all, one of us ordered the chicken and it took so long to come out that the rest of us finished our entire meals before it even came, so simply had to bring it already in a to-go container. Luckily she shared half of someone else's meal in the meantime. We were told dessert would be comped as a result but they only comped 2 out of 3. We also went for two birthdays, I reminded them of that before dessert, and they did nothing to acknowledge. Our table was cramped and closest to the bar area so it was SO loud and so dark and we had to shout over one another all night and still could hardly hear. Will never go back.
I come to this place all the time and I love it, but this time, I had to wait 45 minutes for my table-- eventhough I had a reservation. Understandably, they were busy with folks celebrating September birthdays, like myself. After getting seated, the crew was super accommodating and the manager gave us a free round of drinks and a discount! I mean, brunch there is a great deal already. Shaving a chunk off was even better. Plus, they substituted the standard onion bread that I don't like for a very delicious white bread. I'll continue to come back; however, I'll make sure to come a little earlier when it's more chill!
The restaurant was very crowded and extremely noisy. The skylight ceiling provided wonderful lighting. It took too long to get a cappuccino. I didn't like everything from fruit, salad, eggs, and potatoes all piled up on one plate. There was no skim milk or cream for the coffee. There were bread rolls, but no toast for breakfast.
Seated right away, bottomless drinks were great quality, waitress was very attentive and checked on us frequently, food was so darn good, and they made sure were happy after. Great experience. Just prepare for a loud and rowdy brunch, because everyone loves them!
Really enjoyed experience here at Essex. We were 20 minutes late due to get directions muddled however we were still seated very quickly. Waiting staff looked after us well throughout the meal. As a vegan I had struggled to find somewhere suitable to eat however the menu here included the vegan mexican matzo which was to die for, would definitely recommend.
When we arrived the hostess was some what warm and had told myself and my party that it would be a couple mins until we were seated. We were seated upstairs which was a bit warm. Our waitress came and didn't really speak to us. It was kind of intimated but we came to brunch to have fun so we didn't pay a lot of mind to it. But the food was good and we had our drinks refilled many times.
Our hostess was very friendly and helpful. I asked when I arrived for a balcony which is very popular. She was so helpful and asked to give her a few minutes and she got us the perfect seats. She was very helpful, caring, friendly and would love to continue a conversation with her but it was time to sit down. Our waitress was friendly as well and when they say 'bottomless brunch', they mean it! I lost count of how many drinks I had. The food was delicious and I definitely plan on returning in the future! Thank you for a wonderful time and I will be recommending to others!
Third place we dined at during our vacation! Essex NYC - wow! Just wow! This was by far my favorite venue throughout our entire trip to NYC! I read that this place was voted best brunch via OpenTable & I can see why! It was vibrant! Atmosphere literally felt like a club at 11 am (( lol )) & the food was ridiculously delicious! Sofia agreed! She loved the avocado toast & Raymond's east coast "Migas" were out of this world. I ordered a shrimp salad but forgot to snap a picture because I dove right in. The service was topnotch - by far, the best of the best!!!!! I would definitely return here the next time we are in Soho!!!!!! I wrote in the notes when reserving this table it was Sofia's birthday and they truly made it memorable. Way to go Essex - unbelievably amazing!!!!
SO loud. Everyone there for brunch seemed to be there to get wasted. Large groups of girls screaming all around us, on top of very loud music. Service very slow. Food was pretty decent. Wouldn't recommend unless you are looking to get smashed on a Sunday morning.
We were 8 old friends getting together for dinner. The restaurant staff was wonderful putting a table together in a more or less circular arrangement so that we could comfortably converse. Unfortunately the noise level was high so that conversation was a bit difficult. The food was delicious and the portions large. It was a Thursday evening so drinks were half price. Casual atmosphere, great value.
