Essex Ratings and Reviews
This was my first time at the restaurant and it was worth the wait. The ambiance was really good and so was the atmosphere. It wasn’t busy and all our needs were met. The food was delicious and I would definitely go again. Thank you for a good date night!!!
Went here for brunch on MLK day, which they offered bottomless mimosas for! the server was very attentive and she came by every time she noticed empty glasses. When you first walk in, however, there wasn't a typical hostess podium and that threw us off a bit but the hostess did come by and we were seated very quickly in the upstairs area. The food was great! I highly recommend the manchego mac and cheese if you're going for brunch. You wont be disappointed!
Went with a reservation for brunch on a Saturday afternoon. We waited for 30 mins to be seated. While we waited, we were offered a ticket to grab a glass of mimosa at the bar. The wait was pretty annoying. The manager offered a discount to our bill which was nice. The food was good and the drinks flowed. May be back as long as they live up to their reservation times. I thought the food was good quality and the waitress ensures we never saw the bottom of our classes.
This is legitimately a nightclub that serves food. I couldn’t hear myself think. The music was so loud and mindless & everyone was screaming. There were more tables of 10+ than there were 2- or 4-tops. This place is filled with people who just want to get hammered.
That said, the food was delicious, the service was incredibly attentive, and the prices were incredible. I just would never come back because of the ambiance / noise alone, but this is what some people are looking for so it just wasn’t the right fit for me.
Husband and I went for Christmas brunch. The place was multi level, but upstairs seating was stifling hot so we chose the main level. We had the bottomless Bloody Marys and Mimosas and bottomless was so accurate! Thank goodness neither of us had to do anything but stumble to the subway! The food was amazing! I had the short rib hash and hubby had the salmon benedict. Our waiter was attentive, friendly but not hovering. Would definitely go back on our next visit to try lunch or dinner.
Essex Restaurant is always reliable for very good food at decent prices, it does not disappoint. We arrived before 8pm and took advantage of $1 Oysters, which were fine, very fresh, and Happy Hour 1/2 price drinks. We all had potato latkes with gravlax for appetizers, they're hard to resist, quite good. And dinner was delicious. I must mention the fine service -- we had a really excellent server who was attentive, sweet and thoroughly on top of things. She made a good meal even better.
Lola was very attentive and kept the unlimited drinks flowing. The food was pretty good. My shrimp avocado salad had a little too much cucumber and not enough leafy greens for my taste and the portion was way too small for an entree. It felt more like an appetizer. The birthday girl had the lamb hash I believe. I tasted it and it was very good and a nice portion. The bread that came out as a starter was ice cold and when I asked for it to be warmed, Lola literally told me they had no way to heat it up which I couldn’t believe! ?! Anyway after a few rounds of drinks I forgot that even happened and just enjoyed. Good place overall for the booze mostly.
Interesting restaurant in Midtown I think it was Midtown. Anyway and had really hard reviews the food was good interesting food interesting selection prepared well. Service was fine.
I don't think I would ever go back there again because we usually stay in Manhattan but it was interesting and I'm glad I went and it had bottomless mimosas I think and Bloody Marys for brunch.
Had a terrific dinner Mon night at Essex. We went for a dinner on the early side (6pm). Their house special cocktails were great and a nice menu. Started with avocado and shrimp salad. Entrees were pork tenderloin and scallops and risotto. All of the food was delish. We ended with the coconut cream pie - not to be missed. Our waitress was very attentive, friendly and nice and had great recommendations. The place was filling up by the time we left. Will visit again for sure.
It kinda felt like we stepped back in time 15 years ago, this used to be the best brunch place on the LES... but things have changed since then. For the price I think they could really prepare better food and renovate the place. My friends and I loved the music choices for Sunday brunch though! It was like a dance/90s mix.
I sat at a three seater that was extremely close to the bar. People were literally on top of me and my friends, it was uncomfortable. It was extremely loud and caught myself yelling just to converse with my friends seated at the table. My food order was also incorrect and the food in my opinion wasn't great in flavor. My fries were also overcooked. I would only recommend this restaurant for vibrant bar scene, if that's what you're into.
I would also recommend this restaurant for larger parties. At least they can have room on the upper level.
The food at Essex is delicious and our waitress was great. Very popular brunch spot with bottomless drinks. While we were signing the check a rude waiter came over to us and said we had to finish our drinks at the bar. We hadn't reached our time limit on the table yet but they rushed us out in a very rude manner. Loved the meal but left disappointed and upset.
From the beginning everything was good. Got our drinks that was ok. The starter arrived - boom pork belly tacos, and they where amazing. After that everything went down the drain... service was horrible, they become mad at us for not ordering more drinks. And the main course was a sad story. The salmon with quinoa tasted ok, but the salmon was over cooked. The other dish was a burger with fries. The fries was still frozen... and come on do your own fries!!!! The burger meat was ok and the bun to.
If you decide to go there, eat the pork belly and be prepared for a horrible service.
I would not go back even if it was free!
My only complain is the music. There was only one genre of music playing and when we asked the DJ if we could request one song since we were celebrating a bday, the request was denied. It was a large party of 11 ppl, and it would have been nice to hear top 40 instead of house music for 3 hours.
