The second your bottomless brunch time is over they kick you out. We felt extremely rushed and they even began taking chairs from our table immediately at the 90 minute mark.
Great service from Mo. Cool space with window seating and hip downtown vibe. Food was excellent but it was our sever, Mo that really made our visit to Essex special!
Reasonably priced bottomless brunch, very loud, food was good but not quite what was expected when reading the menu versus what actually came
The appetizers were great but the service took forever to order. Gave me the wrong pitcher of alcohol, 2 of the dishes were the vegetarian option instead of the one we ordered. probably wouldn’t go back
The service was so bad. We had to wait over 3 hours to finish our meal. The host was also a bit rude, and disinterested. It was so bad, they gave us a complimentary drink. I would recommend better service.
This has become my goto spot for drinks after work. Beautiful space with excellent selection of small plates. Had the short rib sliders, crispy Brussels Sprouts, and Korean chicken lollipops—all very good.
Wow the new location dope . Great food as always, with the completely brand new place , it did “put the cherry on cake.”.
Amazing deal on Thursday, 1$ oysters and happy hour until midnight! I have been going for brunch for years and we keep coming back. The new location is much nicer than the old one. Perfect spot for us from now on to watch sports. They have two big TVs ,drinks and food are great.
Had dinner at their new location tonight and Essex has only gotten better. The pork belly tacos were incredible. Same great bartender, the lady with the big black hat, but a much more extensive draft selection. Will be back.
Don’t come. We made a reservation for 3pm, and I arrived early at 2:30 to make sure things went smoothly. The hostess said we needed a majority of the party to be seated, which arrived at 2:50. While we were waiting in the crowded area, my friend was forcefully elbowed by a server trying to get through; it was so surprising and off putting. Despite continuing to ask if our table was ready and being told “5 minutes,” we were not seated until 3:30pm. There was no apology offered, and the hostess acted annoyed at being asked. The restaurant was very hot, and there was not a ceiling fan or a vent in sight in the downstairs area. So the meal was very uncomfortable. The hostess came with a pitcher of mimosas, which also were not as cold as they should have been. After 20min the hostess finally took our order, and by this time it was almost 4pm. Over the next hour we waited for out food, during which time the waitress didn’t come to check or update us on our food. Staff came to refill drinks and water, but constantly bombarded us by reaching over to do so, instead of asking for the glasses. A table that was seated slightly after us had received their food, eaten and were packing up to leave before ours arrived. The food came out closer to 5pm, and my meal came out 5-10 minutes after the rest. None of the food was hot, and it all seemed as though it had been sitting out for an extended period of time. While hastily refilling water, the waitress spilled some on my side item and only begrudgingly offered to bring me another.
Despite the terrible service and bad food, the most disappointing thing was the manager’s attempt at resolving the issue. After being in the restaurant for almost 3 hrs and having a terrible experience, all that he offered was 10% off the bill. In other words, the poor experience of 7 professional women of color who wasted an entire Sunday afternoon being poorly treated and improperly fed was only worth $25 in his mind. Talk about not valuing customers.
Have never had an issue with getting food in a timely manner here before, but it took over an hour and a half for our table of 6 to be served brunch. The restaurant did continue the unlimited brunch drinks for us thru our entire meal service, but it was an extremely long time to wait for food.
I did not have a good experience at Essex. We had to wait for 30 minutes for a table, then we had to wait over an hour for our food and the service was awful. It took 30 minutes to be given water after asking twice. Our glasses were not refilled consistently and our waitress rarely checked on us. After complaining to a manager, we were given better service but not great. We did recieve 30% off of our check, but the experience overall was not a good one and I will not be rushing to return anytime soon.
Worst experience I’ve had in a very long time. I was recommended by a very good friend. I will not be recommending this to anyone. Management team is terrible!!
Super loud place with overcooked food. We have to remind the waitress to get us bread and food, each time she looked surprised that we haven't received them...When the food did come, our favorite old dishes tasted nothing like before. They are poorly executed and flavorless. My whole group was shouting over the table to have a conversation. So sad that this use to be our favorite brunch spot, now this is just another all you can drink place with drunk food.....
Food took almost an hour to come after we ordered and wasn't anything special. The space is nice and big but very loud. Too expensive for what it was.
Everything about this place is fine. The food was fine, nothing special, but nothing to remember. This places biggest draw is that it can handle large parties, but in a neighborhood with great food, I'll spend my money elsewhere.
Skip the cocktails.
This place moved across the street!! Their new place is very pretty. The food and drinks are the same. They don't go around as often with mimosa refills as they used to but that's because they expanded options I think. The food is good as always. The servers are fantastic. Everyone here is a rockstar.
We all thoroughly enjoyed our experience at this lovely, nicely decorated restaurant in the Lower East Side. Alec, our waiter was attentive and service exhibited by him was outstanding. Our food choices were excellent - hamburger, scallops and scrimp were all amazing and nicely prepared with mouthwatering sauces. Wonderful, high recommended restaurant that knows what service is all about. Will definitely return.
The new venue is updated and clean. I ordered the avocado toast, it was inedible. While doing the bottomless brunch we had to ask for new glasses of mimosa’s because it smelled off and tasted odd. Stake champagne was definitely being used. We were also almost forced to get up from our table well before we were finished because they wanted the table. Maybe go here for larger parties because affordable and have more time. I do not recommend for parties 4 or smaller.
Maybe the unlimited drinks at brunch create the mood, but it was very loud when the room was 2/3rds full. Many imaginative dishes, with a good mix of sweet and savory choices. the avocado salad with shrimp salad was especially good. Well-trained staff, but a star deducted for changing for coffee refills.
Food was okay, but service was terrible even though it was a nearly empty restaurant. Server never checked on us and had to wait forever to order.
Sorry to say but Essex was so loud we couldn't think, let alone talk. After seating us and a waitress taking our drink order, another waitress informed us that it would 1.5 hours before we got our food! Luckily, when we cancelled our drink order, the first waitress was gracious.
The service was great. But the food and drinks are pretty bad.
Essex was great, atmosphere was amazing food was even better. Trevor was my waiter, he was great but stopped giving us the unlimited mimosas 30 minutes early. We were not seated the time of our reservation which I understand but we should not have been neglected from getting the unlimited mimosas early if we were paying the price for it.
Their reservation system is questionable cause I make the reservation on the same day for brunch and it show its available. When I got there, my wife and I had to sit on a crowded counter top. They said table is only for reservation made day before.
It happen to me before they move to new location which I make reservation for dinner and when I got there, they said they are closing for brunch and happy hour and could not able to seat us. They never mention it in the reservation info.
Not ideal for a party of 4 - seems they cater to large groups (we were surrounded by 3 tables of 14+), which monopolized the service. The time we were there it was absurdly loud, making it nearly impossible to have a conversation. Food was great, but we reached the bottom of our bottomless mimosas multiple times.
Food was not great and the service was also sub par.
We went for my birthday and our waitress was amazing!!! It wasn’t to expensive and I would definitely go again!!
Middle of the road food, perfect for my brother in law who is a picky eater. Steak is good, fish is good, the attempts at ethnic dishes a bit weak.
My brunch experience was awesome! The food was delicious and the server was really attentive. The minute our glasses were empty she was right there to refill. The music played at a decent volume where you were still able to hear it and speak to your friends without telling. My overall experience was great and recommend to anyone who enjoys a chill boozy brunch with friends.
Very mixed feelings about this restaurant. Definitely a good deal for bottomless if you’re trying to drink a lot. However the food was cold, the service was so so, and the noise got to be a lot. Restaurant was also very hot as they had all of the doors and windows open. Most importantly, when I got my receipts back after paying, my card wasn’t in the folder. I informed the waitress and she brought my card back saying “oh sorry it must have fallen out.” No harm no foul. However, I still have not received a charge on my card for the meal despite it being almost 2 days later. It seems as though they were hoping I forgot I had not gotten my card back and are still actively looking to charge it for more than is due. So overall ok experience but watch your cards when you go there.
the bottomless brunch was wonderful. the food was good, the mimosas were flowing and the atmosphere was lively!
Service was slow. Had to remind waitress multiple times for food. Lobster Benedict was very cold.
Fun sitting at the bar, great noisy brunch vibe. The waitstaff / bartender was super "un-hygenic" - I watched not one but two different employees put their fingers inside glasses while making drinks. . . that were then served to customers.
Our food was forgotten, took nearly an hour for a veggie burger and an omelette. Food was passable but pricey.
It’s a really popular brunch spot
Essex was or will be "The Spot" for couples to have an intimate dinner, friends as a social gathering, or just for a meet and greet. Music is contemporary, easy to listen to, adds to the atmosphere, but soft enough not to have to shout at your companion(s). Service was personal, professional, very welcoming, and although young were trained well in coming around at appropriate intervals not to disturb you...outstanding.
Great food! Excellent drinks and service was quick and very nice!
Came to Essex for a birthday brunch on a sunday and the service was phenomenal. We were 20 minutes early and they sat us right away. The noise level on the first floor was no where near as bad as other brunch establishments that I have been too. I had the BBQ Chicken arepas and the chicken was a bit too sweet, steak and eggs were over done . everything else was really good. the stand out here were the amazing Mimosas and the wait staff!
The waiter was awesome the first hour, but then dropped the check at 60 minutes (bottomless brunch is 90 minutes), he then came back to the table every 5 minutes and would open the checkbook to see if we paid. It was incredibly annoying, they were also very stingy with the drinks after 60 minutes. I wouldn’t go back.
Nice spot for a rowdy brunch with boozy drinks. Food didn't taste bad, but came cold. Service was fair, as it was pretty crowded. Overall a good experience.
