Always great. Only thing is the noise is crazy but overall always great. Nothing they can do about the noise.
We came here during restaurant week to give it a try and it exceeded expectations. The food came out quickly and was excellent. Everything we tried from appetizers to dessert was prepared perfectly and was delicious. There was a lot of space inside and the wait staff made us feel welcome and ensured we had everything we needed. Highly recommend!
Booked at the last minute. Pleasantly surprised. Beautiful outdoor setup. Food and service were really good.
I had veal meatballs appetizer and the duck entree and both were outstanding. A great restaurant week menu. They put their best foot forward for restaurant week (unlike so many now that offer a chicken-salmon-veggie pasta entree that are just cheap and not on their regular manu). Furthermore, they post their restaurant week menu online so you know what you'll be getting. We will be returning to this restaurant. Our waitress was also courteous and attentive.
Great outdoor area, great food, service slow but worth wait.
Great atmosphere but the above seating area was super hot especially drinking unlimited drinks for brunch.
Lots of errors made with my vegan meal, but we ultimately got it right. Serve was not informed on what was vegan and what wasn't.
very accommodating to our change in reservation size!
Our waitress was a but rude and nonchalant. Another waitress refilled our mimosa but was confrontational on whether or not our brunch time was up and responded to us asking with a really rude outburst.
The staff was great, the food was good.
Very fresh ingredients
Great ambience! The poke was just perfect and salmon crisp on the out skin and MR in the middle, service to the point! Such a great to see Essex back at a full force .
my favorite brunch place ever! I mean that, I'm a brunch connoisseur, it is my weekend hobby. I've been known to hit 4 in a weekend. You have to start out early.
Essex has a variety of food, mostly American, but with other cultural influences added to create depth. My favorites are The Aristocrats smoked salmon, potato pancakes, roe and poached eggs, yum.
The Shrimp and Grits are great as well.
If you are keto oriented, there is a breakfast salad that fits the bill.
The bottomless brunch is no muss, no fuss at 39.95. It is the most economical choice, because a regular, single mimosa is $13.50. Most places are slow to refill or add too much juice, not so with Essex.
Plus the serving team is so nice - taking orders, bringing food, cleaning up all with a smile!
Food was AMAZING And so was our server. But we were sat near the bathroom/ kitchen area and there was a terrible odor.
Too loud, the food was okay
Not great! Actually, it was quite bad! Undercooked meatballs!
PLEASE AVOID IF YOU ARE A MINORITY!
I made the mistake of celebrating my 30th birthday here with a few of my loved ones. And the service, or lack thereof, that my guests and I endured was terrible from start to finish. It was thee WORST restaurant experience I've had in my 30 years of life. They literally ruined my birthday.
I initially booked with Dave(manager) over the phone for a party of 14, and called back later to specifically reserve the balcony area. Upon arrival, my guests were directed to a semi-booth under the staircase. When they indicated that we were to be seated upstairs, the host refused to sit them and claimed that the balcony was off limits as it was closed for repairs. LIES! I eventually spoke to someone who proceeded to direct us to the area I reserved and behold, there was not a single sign of construction whatsoever. They just didn't want to honor the reservation.
The dinner was reserved for 7:15pm, and we were given a very obviously inexperienced server named Emilio, who could not explain any of the menu items or drinks to us. We had to ask for everything, water pitchers, cups, straws, EVERYTHING! We ordered a round of drinks and appetizers that did not come out until 9:45pm. And that was only after we continually asked where our apps were, I mean cmon, oysters are raw, just bring them out!
We noticed 2 other tables of whites that were seated after us, had already had their drinks, appetizers, entrees, desserts, and were gone before we had gotten our appetizers! When they finally got around to bringing half of the dinners out, 80% of the orders were incorrect. and that set off another round of issues. The so called manager/owner present that night completely lacked decorum and regards for my guests and I when he picked up my burnt piece of steak with his bare hands and shouted at us saying the steak was perfectly cooked! Disgusting! They attempted to redo it and messed up the orders yet again. I went home & ate left over pizza.
The staff at the door/the host/hostess were nice, but it was all downhill from there. We were rushed and the server made all the diners (at least on our top floor) anxious rushing everyone.
They crammed a reservation for 6-7 people at a tiny 4-top. For a table of mostly grown men all over 6 ft - they barely had room under the table. Luckily, we were able to convince the runner and busser that we needed more room and they agreed. The server would not move us to the booth because a bigger party was coming "later"- guess what - that party never showed up during the time we were there. They really take that 90min per table seriously. For a get together where people want to relax and chat on the weekend- not ideal to feel rushed. I honestly felt like we were out in 45-50 minutes. My crew was happy to leave by that point - collectively didn't want to give them any more $.
The brunch "deal" is not worth it. First of all, the mimosas tasted terrible. Either old OJ, bad bubbly, or both. My server kept refilling my glass and when I asked her not to - she did anyway - was going to try to switch to bloody mary - but since she never came back over except to rush us - wasn't worth the breath.
Suggest - just get the food a la carte - it will be cheaper. Our table got a mix of food- didn't love the food runner piled plates on top of each other to serve.
Our server was terrible, rushing us the entire time and forgetting people's drinks, coffee, anything we asked for. We only had 1 refill of our small water glasses because I flagged down a manager who was running some of the food. While we were surprised by the "bread plate" on the table - my guys friends said it was terrible. Our busser and the junior server were much more attentive. Having worked in a busy high profile restaurant myself - if I wasn't there entertaining an out of town friend - i would have asked to speak to the manager on site- check your staff demeanor and how they treat people. shameful.
Nice setting, good menu - everything we ordered was delicious! BUT it was a bit dark inside and I deeply missed the original space across the street….
Staff are amazing! The food is delicious and quick. Love brunching here for all occasions.
It was great. Our server was fantastic and kept our cups full and even gave use a few free shots! Food was good, we sat outside so the noise level was fine.
We went for brunch. The food was excellent with a great variety of items to choose from. They have a bottomless brunch option also (mimosas, bloody Mary’s, etc) for not much more than the food only option. We didn’t do that, but it they looked great! Steak and eggs was great, Mac and cheese was amazing, burger was good, home fries and regular fries were both delicious. And the bread they bring to the table was fresh and delicious. Great food! Atmosphere was good and we liked the decor. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. We want to try dinner next time we are in town, as that menu looked even better than brunch.
So loud. Rushed service. Food was average. It was very hard to hear conversation at my table and other tables were being loud and drunk. What a shame because I’ve eaten several times, so to see that the quality has dipped significantly is a bummer.
Wonderful dinner. First indoor dining experience in over a year and essex really made it special. Creative cocktails, steak cooked to perfection and the most amazing chocolate mousse. Our server Helena(?) was friendly and attentive even though place was very busy for pride day.
Everything about Essex was amazing!
The food was good but our server and the majority of the waitstaff were not wearing masks. This came at a surprise to me because I would think that diner safety (and even their own safety) would be paramount. I will probably not go back to this restaurant until the pandemic is over.
Terrible food, terrible service, lingering odor.
Fast service and the mimosas we’re
Definitely filled before they were finished each time!
Half an hour late in having our table ready. Very slow for orders. Food arrived cold.
Food was not great. Are out super quick but it was cold. The waitress got sassy when my friend and I wanted to pay separately.
Better than expected!
Went there on my birthday yesterday evening and the drinks took 20min every time. Ordered truffle fries, came cold, sent them back to get them re-made, that took 35min. Food was sub-par. Server was friendly. Overall restaurant was way understaffed. Server didn’t note birthday or sent dessert. Then we’re rushed because the kitchen was closing. Got there at 9, didn’t actually eat our entrees until 10:30pm. Had to ask for silverware, napkins and more water. Felt neglected as a paying guest. Music too loud. Not going back there ever again
Nice, attentive staff. Big tables and varied menu to accommodate larger parties. Excellent drinks. Food was good if not amazing.
Thanks for letting me switch tables mid-reservation
I really enjoyed this place. Food was very good our waitress was fantastic. We sat outside and you could not hear people talking at the other tables. Overall a very pleasant experience. Would definitely recommend this place.
Great date night dinner. Restaurant was quiet on a Monday so Manager offered us at large banquette. Beautiful, stylish room, well-priced wine list and excellent food. Chocolate Mousse is to die for!
Don't go for the food. It's more about drinking and the social scene, if that's what your looking for!
My friend and I did a Sunday brunch at Essex. The reviews were 50/50 but we decided to go anyway! The vibe was fun and loud the way we like Sunday brunch. The mimosas were unlimited and kept coming the entire time, no complaints there! The food ( shrimp & grits , Mexican breakfast) were not that great, in fact we didn't finish it. Overall the vibe was nice and I will return but will definitely order something different!
Everything was great except that I made a reservation a week in advance to make sure we had a decent table and once we shows up we were sat at a two top in the way of the front door over a hot air vent thing on the street where they pulled up a chair, when I asked about another table they said sorry everything is reserved. I don’t understand why once reservation is valued more than another. They then sat us at the bar and within the time we were there quite a few four and three tops were open. Might be back but I would say don’t bother with your reservation time since they might just throw it together last minute anyways.
pretty outdoor setting but lack of air made it warm.
