About Esquire Tavern
Located in the heart of downtown, The Esquire Tavern is the oldest bar on the San Antonio Riverwalk, opened the year, month and day that Prohibition was repealed. Tending bar in the early days was a highly prized and much sought after craft. Bar keeps then created many of their own syrups, mixes and concoctions and used the freshest of juices with the intention of serving the best products. We at the Esquire have taken a serious approach to the old world of bartending and spun it with a modern twist. Combining classic techniques and new world flavors and culinary concepts, our goal is to lead and set San Antonio's emerging cocktail culture on the map.

Esquire Tavern Ratings and Reviews
The Esquire was a recommendation from a friend of ours while we were on vacation. This place was fantastic, we had an amazing time. The ambiance in the evening was great for a gathering of friends or a romantic dinner. The food was soooo good, we wended up getting only appetizers but it was perfect for us to share and every bite was through the roof. We'll definitely be going back.
The deviled eggs were excellent, the fried pickles were good but not great. I had the bean burger and again it was not bad, but nothing special either, my wife had the Cheese Burger and felt the same about hers as I felt about mine. The best thing about the place was the atmosphere, it's a cool little place.
Kind of disappointed. Have t been in a while; but I have always loved this place. Drinks not so great; bathroom very smelly with two toilets out of order. Seemed dirty overall compared to previous visits. Probably won't be returning
An amazing find tucked away in a quiet corner of the Riverwalk. Perfect cocktails! Great food and service. There was live jazz on a Thursday night. Upstairs is lively and downstairs is quiet and cozy. Both spaces are romantic with a great vibe. It's my new favorite place in the Riverwalk.
My husband and I are taking advantage of our daughters neing in NJ with Grandma and Grandpa for the summer. The ambiance in this place waa perfect for who we are. We both ordered the lamb burger with the feta cheese... it was so good and perfectly cooked. My drink from the bar was amazing and our server, Andy was awesome!
Visited while on vacation ... Not the best place I've been, but pretty darn good and I would definitely go back. Limited outdoor seating (not really "on" the Riverwalk, more next to the Riverwalk) but good ambiance, service, and food. Live music was nice. All in all good experience.
Our waiter seemed annoyed when we asked for napkins. (I think he thought we wanted silver ware) before we had food. We just wanted some napkins to place in our laps. We were very appreciative but he seemed cold and took until the end of our meal to warm up to us.
This was a great spot for a group of 6 with very different tastes. It was so awesome to find a place on the river walk that had good, interesting beers. The good was so good and well priced. We had such an interesting assortment of dishes and every one was happy.
The oldest bar on San Antonio's River walk. We had burgers and they were fantastic. Appetizers of fried pickles, with their own house made pickles, and deviled eggs kicked off the meal. They pour amazing and creative cocktails, sit at the bar for an education in mixology!
We had dinner in the bar area and loved it! Great food and service. Our server was very proud of his job at the Esquire because of the quality of the food and service! We dinned on the second floor overlooking the RiverWalk and it was lots of fun. They also have outdoor seating on the balcony overlooking the river but we ate inside next to the window. Great place!
