About

Located in the heart of downtown, The Esquire Tavern is the oldest bar on the San Antonio Riverwalk, opened the year, month and day that Prohibition was repealed. Tending bar in the early days was a highly prized and much sought after craft. Bar keeps then created many of their own syrups, mixes and concoctions and used the freshest of juices with the intention of serving the best products. We at the Esquire have taken a serious approach to the old world of bartending and spun it with a modern twist. Combining classic techniques and new world flavors and culinary concepts, our goal is to lead and set San Antonio's emerging cocktail culture on the map.

Neat place and worth going to once for the ambiance. Food is good but not great. Next time I'd go for drinks and eat elsewhere.

The Esquire was a recommendation from a friend of ours while we were on vacation. This place was fantastic, we had an amazing time. The ambiance in the evening was great for a gathering of friends or a romantic dinner. The food was soooo good, we wended up getting only appetizers but it was perfect for us to share and every bite was through the roof. We'll definitely be going back.

The atmosphere alone makes this a great downtown stop, but the food is good and the drink selection is outstanding. It's close proximity to the area theaters makes this a good choice for a quick bite before the show.

Other than the loudly crying child, which is of course not the restaurant's fault, nor their usual customer base, we had a very good experience. Their burger is outstanding, as is their starter tostada.

The deviled eggs were excellent, the fried pickles were good but not great. I had the bean burger and again it was not bad, but nothing special either, my wife had the Cheese Burger and felt the same about hers as I felt about mine. The best thing about the place was the atmosphere, it's a cool little place.

Place was super cool - bar tender was not friendly, at all. Drinks were great, though! Fresh ingredients, great unique cocktail menu. We didn't eat there, but the food looked good too.

Kind of disappointed. Have t been in a while; but I have always loved this place. Drinks not so great; bathroom very smelly with two toilets out of order. Seemed dirty overall compared to previous visits. Probably won't be returning

The food was pretty good, although three got the crab sandwich and complained that it was too salty. Service was average, drinks were strong. Ambience was cool, but a little dark and loud. I liked the history of the place, but don't see myself going again.

Living in Orlando, we only get to Esquire about 2 times a year. It is one of our favorites. Never have been disappointed. Thanks.
