A true classic hidden away on the river walk!
Neat place and worth going to once for the ambiance. Food is good but not great. Next time I'd go for drinks and eat elsewhere.
The Esquire was a recommendation from a friend of ours while we were on vacation. This place was fantastic, we had an amazing time. The ambiance in the evening was great for a gathering of friends or a romantic dinner. The food was soooo good, we wended up getting only appetizers but it was perfect for us to share and every bite was through the roof. We'll definitely be going back.
Menu was different. They do not have a kids menu
The atmosphere alone makes this a great downtown stop, but the food is good and the drink selection is outstanding. It's close proximity to the area theaters makes this a good choice for a quick bite before the show.
Server was inattentive
not great...not bad... just meh
Other than the loudly crying child, which is of course not the restaurant's fault, nor their usual customer base, we had a very good experience. Their burger is outstanding, as is their starter tostada.
The deviled eggs were excellent, the fried pickles were good but not great. I had the bean burger and again it was not bad, but nothing special either, my wife had the Cheese Burger and felt the same about hers as I felt about mine. The best thing about the place was the atmosphere, it's a cool little place.
Place was super cool - bar tender was not friendly, at all. Drinks were great, though! Fresh ingredients, great unique cocktail menu. We didn't eat there, but the food looked good too.
Kind of disappointed. Have t been in a while; but I have always loved this place. Drinks not so great; bathroom very smelly with two toilets out of order. Seemed dirty overall compared to previous visits. Probably won't be returning
The food was pretty good, although three got the crab sandwich and complained that it was too salty. Service was average, drinks were strong. Ambience was cool, but a little dark and loud. I liked the history of the place, but don't see myself going again.
Great drinks, service and food Unique decorating with a early 1900 feel. Bartenders have exceptional knowledge of drinks.
Before or after dining be sure to visit Downstairs. It's a great bar with a fantastic margarita.
Living in Orlando, we only get to Esquire about 2 times a year. It is one of our favorites. Never have been disappointed. Thanks.
Absolutely wonderful. This is a "must go to" kind of place. Be sure to make a reservation in advance. This place is always packed.
Historic place to enjoy good food and fun. Looks like a good place to sit at the bar to watch sports too.
Good food and service. A tad pricey, but consistent with other river walk fare. Probably the best gastropub in the area.
An amazing find tucked away in a quiet corner of the Riverwalk. Perfect cocktails! Great food and service. There was live jazz on a Thursday night. Upstairs is lively and downstairs is quiet and cozy. Both spaces are romantic with a great vibe. It's my new favorite place in the Riverwalk.
We enjoy taking guests to this bar. It's on a less busy part of the river walk.
We received amazing service and the food was great.I am glad that the bean burger has been put back on the menu.Good times as always.
This place had a great vibe and the food was great. The service was average but the good food made up for it. Love the history behind this place.
My husband and I are taking advantage of our daughters neing in NJ with Grandma and Grandpa for the summer. The ambiance in this place waa perfect for who we are. We both ordered the lamb burger with the feta cheese... it was so good and perfectly cooked. My drink from the bar was amazing and our server, Andy was awesome!
Visited while on vacation ... Not the best place I've been, but pretty darn good and I would definitely go back. Limited outdoor seating (not really "on" the Riverwalk, more next to the Riverwalk) but good ambiance, service, and food. Live music was nice. All in all good experience.
The food was fantastic. Casual atmosphere with very good food.
Our waiter seemed annoyed when we asked for napkins. (I think he thought we wanted silver ware) before we had food. We just wanted some napkins to place in our laps. We were very appreciative but he seemed cold and took until the end of our meal to warm up to us.
It wasn't all that busy, but our waiter was barely there. We were never asked if we wanted another drink or if we needed anything. We had to get another server to help us. The food was good, but we were frustrated with the service.
One of our favorite places to always stop at when we visit San Antonio. It's really unique and the food and the drinks hit the spot. We will be back next time we are in town.
The vibe was laid back and fun. The food was quite good but definitely lacked variety, especially for vegetarians. The drink list was extensive. The French 75 was lemony and refreshing after a long day.
The atmosphere was great! Food was just ok
Convenient to Aztec Theater where we had tickets for show @ 8pm that evening.
Lively band was playing when we arrived.
We had Empire Burger that was delicious along with chili-salt fries.
Amazing cocktails. Food excellent. Highly recommended.
This was a great spot for a group of 6 with very different tastes. It was so awesome to find a place on the river walk that had good, interesting beers. The good was so good and well priced. We had such an interesting assortment of dishes and every one was happy.
The oldest bar on San Antonio's River walk. We had burgers and they were fantastic. Appetizers of fried pickles, with their own house made pickles, and deviled eggs kicked off the meal. They pour amazing and creative cocktails, sit at the bar for an education in mixology!
Nice atmosphere makes for a special date place. Great drinks and food.
Great meal with the family at Esquire Tavern. The food was fantastic and waiter was and team was terriffic.
We had dinner in the bar area and loved it! Great food and service. Our server was very proud of his job at the Esquire because of the quality of the food and service! We dinned on the second floor overlooking the RiverWalk and it was lots of fun. They also have outdoor seating on the balcony overlooking the river but we ate inside next to the window. Great place!
Overall great experience but was quite hot in the early evening.
Friendly service, fast service, good food, music and drinks.
Cool speakeasy atmosphere, great take on chile relleno and nice cocktails. Excellent attentive server. Overall fun experience
