The food took too long to come out front the appetizers to dessert (and the dessert is already made). Our server was good in the beginning but became less attentive with the more tables she got. My mom ordered me he 7 layer cake for dessert BUT it was NOT 7 layers and the manager Andrea counted the filling as layers. That’s comical because 1) I’ve gotten the cake before and it was 7 actual layers 2) we know how to count. Plus she was rude! I can imagine these are some of the reasons they are closing which is sad bc I actually love Coopers Hawk.

Had a great/bittersweet experience last night. Came up from Columbus for one last experience at Esquire. We were here for their first NYE and wanted to come for a last look. The lobster rolls should be put on the CH menu as a Chef Rec, (Chef Matt, read this.) as usual, the food was great. All the servers/staff were so upbeat and helpful but KUDOS to our server Maggie, Mgr. Mark and bartender Burdan (sp). I'm sure each has wonderful things in store for their future. Fond farewell to all at Esquire.

We have loved the Esquire since it originally opened. We visited last night, and last weekend The Esquire would ever be open. We went in with expectation that they would probably be short-handed and be out of certain food and wines. We were correct. We ordered an appitizer and they were out, so we ordered something else. Two entrees we oredered were out so went with second choices. And the same with dessert. We start off by ordering a bottle of wine, which we found out they were out of and replaced it with a different white wine. When we ordered our second bottle of wine, we were told they were out of Super Tuscan, so we ordered another substitute. 20 minutes later, the table behind us orders the same Super Tuscan and was able to get it. When we asked if our wine was going to be decanted, our server seemed completely confused, and said that it was best served out of the bottle. ?? When ordering dessert, our server told us that the truffle of the month was raisin and went on about how gross it sounded. And why would anybody eat it. So, one was ordered, and when it came out, we thought it looked like a dried cherry. When we asked the server, she asked if we ever saw a giant raisin and told us that she could see how we could easily be confused. Nope, it was a dried cherry, and the manager confirmed it. We realized by the end of our visit that there was a rhythm to our server. If you requested something, it was always a no - we are out, so you had to go with your second choice. No kidding! Good lu k to this server in her future endeavors!

Beautiful atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable staff, delicious food and drinks, all made for an incredible experience. We're sad to see them go, and we'll miss their unique sea salt caramel creme brulee!

I wanted a nice dinner alone and picked this spot as I love Cooper Hawk. The lobster rolls were amazing! Highly recommend. The chicken piccata wasn’t great, but my server was awesome, noticed I didn’t like it and removed it from the bill. Get the key lime pie, you won’t be disappointed! The wine pairing suggestion on all of the food was spot on and went well together! This place was great!

Our experience was HORRIBLE! We had an 11am reservation when they first opened & server Audry didn't come to our table until after 10 minutes. She would disappear for 15 - 20 minutes at a time. It took an hour to get our lunch & one of our dishes (a chicken sandwich) had to be remade because it was made wrong, server didn't ask how she wanted her entree. The manager had to come over twice to apologize for the delay on the chicken sandwich. Everyone at our table, & there were 9 of us finished their meals before she got her chicken sandwich. Audry, server gave us our check without asking how we wanted it. We told Audry we wouldn't be having wine as our cocktails & she said she would remove the wine glasses so we would have more room & never did. She didn't bring serving utencils for our apps. She just gave me the bill at the end & never asked how we wanted the bill because we wanted to split it. It took over 2-hrs for burgers, 2 chicken sandwhich & a salad. Three family members had to step out to go feed the meter because it was taking so long. Poor experience, bad service & sadly would not go back to Esquire. Coopers Hawk in the suburbs are better.

Sadly July 17 2023 is the closing of esquire. Not taking anymore reservations. Was lucky enough to enjoy one last evening with the fabulous staff. We are defiantly going to miss this place. Always clean, never had bad service or meal. Thanks again for all the memories!

I am sorry to see this establishment closing in the next 10 days. I was happy to see it quite busy during our visit. Service was sporadic (not bad) which is understandable with everyone losing their jobs soon. It sounds like CH is doing a good job trying to place everyone, but the sad part is their other locations are in the suburbs.

Just an ok experience. Have been going to the Coopers in Kansas City for years and have a membership for wine for about 8 years. This was really overpriced and service was ok, only ok. Menu is small, and apparently this location is closing in a couple weeks. I know why.

Same great customer service and food quality you would expect from Cooperhawk, but more upscale venue. What a shame that this location is closing middle of July 2023. This is our second year back in Chicago, and found this more upscale Cooperhawk to be a nice alternative to their main restaurants across the country. We have been members for years, and have visited many different locations in various states. This location was not only very convenient since it was in downtown Chicago, it offered different menu choices than their other restaurants. At first, I missed my favorites but found selections on Esquire menu to be delicious.

We sat for 20 minutes waiting for our waitstaff to engage us. We were there for 2 hours...not because we wanted to be but because the staff was simply not available. I ordered wine, which I never got...was told iced tea was not an option that evening and then 10 minutes later it came. I was very disappointed as we had a special guest with us from out of town and hoped this would be a great introduction to Chicago. Not so much.

Cooper’s Hawk Esquire is great. They should not be closing, instead should fire their marketing and PR staff for not promoting this hidden gem. I didn’t know it was open until a few months ago. I was surprised to learn it had been open for a year. I was the head of the organization reconsidered.

After many years of frequenting the South Barrington and other locations nationally, this much anticipated dining experience was a complete let down. Beautiful location, but a somewhat unpleasant and seemingly bothered hostess set the tone for the evening. The quirky waitress was nice enough, but fell below service expectations set by other locations. The lobster bisque and brussel sprout salad were amazing and the highlight of the meal. The braised pork shank was a little dry, but still tender and flavorful and paired nicely with the barley. Most disappointing part, at a wine restaurant especially, was wine flight number 3 lacking complexity and almost seemed watered down. Saved a special evening while we were back in Chicago and can't say we would do it again.

The service was very bad, I waited a hour for my food it took 45 minutes for me to get a drink the waitress had to much going on just running his mouth kicking it with all the other employees it was just a very bad experience especially coming there for the first time and then had to turn around and pay a bill for a $165.39 ..
