Erie Cafe is a premier destination of River North for steaks, chops, and homestyle Italian favorites since 1994. The 1940s club-like atmosphere, elegant bar, and lush outdoor dining is the gem of the neighborhood. Erie Cafe serves the finest aged steaks butchered daily from whole primal cuts, homemade ravioli, specials, and desserts daily for both lunch and dinner. This Chicago Classic is 3rd generation family-owned and operated.

Took two colleagues to lunch today. Their first time. They loved it. Erie Cafe is a great place for lunch and today’s special was a seafood Cioppino with loads of mussels clams. Calamari and fresh fish.

One of my favorite lunch places. I introduced two friends today who were visiting from Florida. They loved it. We all had the grilled whitefish lunch excellent and we all cleaned out plates.

Excellent steak. The side dish of peas and onions was tasty too. My friend’s asparagus was woody and hard to chew. Why do restaurants seems to select asparagus on the basis of appearance, rather than on taste and texture? They pick the thickest and greenest stalks, which are hard to chew, instead of slender ones. I wish some restaurants would start serving European-style white asparagus! Bread was ok, but a bit blah. Espresso was excellent! And I like the somewhat isolated location alongside a small park. Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

After a long day at an offsite, my work team wrapped up the evening with dinner at Erie Cafe—and it was the perfect choice. The classic Chicago steakhouse ambiance set the tone for a relaxed yet professional gathering, and the service was attentive without being intrusive. The menu offered exactly what we needed: generous portions of high-quality cuts and a great selection of sides. We enjoyed expertly cooked steaks, fresh seafood, and traditional favorites like their signature garlic mashed potatoes. The meal was complemented by a well-curated wine list that kept the conversation flowing. From start to finish, Erie Cafe delivered on both atmosphere and quality, making it an ideal spot for a team dinner. Whether for business or a special occasion, this is a place that knows how to do hospitality right.

Granted it was Mother’s Day but it was chaos! Service was erratic, food was lousy, and it’s expensive! Grilled calamari was burnt, chicken was bland and carrot cake was dry. Once we finally got a server, he was friendly and did his best.
