Was disappointed with my food. Bland fried artichokes tasted like flour-y mush. Swordfish was beautifully prepared but skimpy and possibly had been frozen. Veggies were okay. On the other hand, my friend said her fried tomatoes and beef were very good. Service was excellent and staff was very helpful. That could not have been any better. Front curtain was drawn and our table in the middle of the inside floor seemed dim. Martini was excellent.

My wife and I went for Restaurant Week DC. My wife started with house made fusilli pasta with sweet corn coulis, shitake mushrooms, and roasted sweet peppers. She loved it as did I with my shrimp and grits. Shrimp was very flavorful and perfectly cooked. Grits were buttery and creamy. Main course for her was the BBQ salmon filet with sweet corn succotash, also delicious. Mine was the hanger steak with onions, potatoes, and some French green beans. The waiter said the chef recommended "medium rare" which I accepted. It arrived tasting like charcoal, very tough, and clearly well done. The waiter quickly replaced the entree with perfectly cooked medium rare meat which was tender and flavorful. For dessert, we both had the chocolate lava cake with ice cream and raspberry coulis. It was an excellent way to end a very enjoyable meal. Had not the cook ruined the steak on his first attempt, I would have given Equinox 5 stars. The waiter was excellent, attentive, and responsive. The bread with tapenade and olive oil was as good as it gets.

The dead shrubbery on the patio gave me pause and proved a harbinger of things to come. The drinks were weak, the shrimp and grits tasteless and the hanger steak was tough and difficult to cut, let alone chew. Only the carrot cake for desert was worthy of the once highly reputed chef. The very large rat that seemed to have the run of the patio put a capper on the evening. How the mighty have fallen!

I hate leaving bad reviews for restaurants, especially when they are working so hard to come back from Covid. However, in this case, it is easy to leave a bad review because it is evident that this place isn’t trying at all. The food was terrible. Where to begin. We ordered wine, which was turned, a ‘21 bottle of Sauvignon Blanc should’ve been good but not this swill. The artichoke was deep fried with no flavor at all; none. Hard to tell if it was even artichoke or deep fried cotton balls. The octopus was mushy; I’ve never had mushy octopus. The entrees for table were less than to be desired; the scallops were overcooked, the duck was overcooked and fatty, the salmon, honestly was fine, and the short ribs were short of meeting anyones expectations. Service was barely there even though the place was half empty, I can’t imagine why. The clincher was our party of five had 20% gratuity included. Nowhere and I mean nowhere was that indicated to be the case and when we politely asked, they said they weren’t aware exactly of the policy; they were aware enough to charge us the auto-gratuity. In a world where restaurants are struggling, people are getting tip-fatigue and are looking for value in quality fare, and good service, it’s hard to understand why this place is still open. It looks like it should’ve shut down the same time that Crockett and Tubbs had to roll down their pastel coat sleeves (for the younger crowd, that is a Miami Vice reference).

Food and service were excellent. Decor is outdated. Needs a spruce up. Also, it was dissappointing to have to use a QR code to order at a fine restaurant. There were seven of us starring at our phone to order, which is not what anyone wants to do when you go out to dinner and want to actually TALK to people and NOT look at a phone. But we were delighted with our server and the food. The vegan options were awesome.

The gazpacho was a treat, starting with its nontraditional yellow color. The salmon was somehow both moist and just flaky enough, with the accompanying vegetables adding some crunch. My companion's braised short ribs were outstanding -- firm and flavorful. The service was warm, pleasant and quick. A great place near the White House for an early dinner.

We've eaten at Equinox a couple of times (including Thanksgiving), and the food has always been excellent. It is one of our go-to places when we want a fine meal. Never a bad dish and the composition of flavors and presentation has always been spot on. Highly recommended.

Amazingly, this was our first visit to Equinox. The restaurant has been around for more than 20 years. We were seated in the garden room, which was not crowded and was quiet and comfortable. My wife and I each ordered the tasting menu with wine pairings. My wife ordered the plant-based menu and I ordered the "market" menu, which included some seafood and meat. We each tasted every dish. There was not a dud in the crowd. My wife and I both chose the gazpacho soup as our favorite dish. We very much liked the salmon and the short ribs as well. The wine pairings were very good as well, including many things I do not have in my own cellar.

When I saw there was a vegan brunch I was very excited to try it. Unfortunately, it was one of the worst meals I have had in a long time. There were 8 different items served family style and each one seemed to be worse than the one before. The soup was not very good. The salads were flavorless with too much oil. The tofu and rice was awful. The tofu was deep fried and seemed like it was from the night before, dry and hard. The pasta was edible but not very flavorful. We were looking forward to the French toast, but it seemed like it was a multigrain bread stuffed with mostly rhubarb. It was very grainy and hard to chew instead of being soft and fluffy. Again not very good. And lastly, there was a chocolate dessert that was soggy and way too sweet. And I usually love anything chocolate. For the $44 per person, with an additional 20% tip, this was again one of the most overpriced, awful tasting meals I have had in the 30 years I have been vegan! Do not waste your money or your palate on this brunch.

My wife had the plant-based tasting menu and I had the market tasting menu. We had predinner cocktails and also a drink with our meals but we did not do the wine pairings. Food quality, taste and service were outstanding. One of the best meals we've had in a long time with a very attentive staff. My wife particularly loved the craft cocktail "Organic Lemoncello" prior to the meal. I really enjoyed the bread and olive tapenade served before the meal. We both ate way too much but each of the 5 courses were amazing. We were seated in a back room so ambiance was a bit lacking from the main dining area up front. Still very nice just not as inviting. Took one star off for value because it was not an inexpensive meal (but still worth it.) Thanks for having the plant-based options on a very upscale menu.

Anniversary dinner. Very special. Imaginative menu., featuring fresh vegetables and seafood — all in-season so probably locally grown. Great, great service; brought us free dessert and bubbly to mark occasion. Only slight drawback: outside dining room, our usual spot had a private party, so sat in interior room which is a bit gloomy. But Equinox never fails to delight. Thank you Todd Grey!

I was looking for a great Vegan option and booked a reservation for Sunday at 1:30. Once we arrived we noticed the website pictures were very different. I was looking forward to our garden nook. It was nice but not what was advertised. Then after telling us it’s all you can enjoy I asked for additional soup and felt it was much more watery than the first serving. Then before we had the desserts they advised us that the kitchen closed at 2:00 and they would be bring out dessert but that would be all because the kitchen was closed. They should have never accepted our 1:30 reservation if we couldn’t enjoy as much as we wanted to eat. Food was good but I don’t know that I would return. It wasn’t outstanding. Overall I was disappointed because we didn’t have an opportunity to enjoy all we can eat. They did acknowledge the birthday celebration with shots.
