Equinox is an excellent choice in Washington's fine dining scene. I've had the privilege of dining here for business and pleasure, and have yet to be disappointed. One evening where we hosted some guests from our corporate headquarters, were pleasantly surprised to find the Equinox staff outside on the patio, manning massive grills filled with oysters and homemade sausages. This summertime tweet was ravenously devoured by our out-of-town guests and exemplifies the creative, seasonal menu you will encounter here. I must also say that Equinox likely has some of the best vegan dishes in town.
Noise level due to air conditioning unit was crazy loud. The group of us found that we would hold off trying to talk until the breaks between the a/c booming on and off. We were seated in a corner of the front enclosed porch area, directly next to the busing station. We were seated for a full 20 minutes before our order was taken.
The food was average. The entrees and appetizers are quite small which is completely understandable if the dishes are outstandingly prepared. The consensus of the table (and all six of us are foodies and don't mind the expense of an excellent meal) agreed that the presentation far exceeded the quality of the food. Finally, the desert(s) was/were horrible. Do not get the "rum cake". Two of us ordered it and it was like eating a stale piece of bread floating in cheap rum. The waiter brought one of our guests a dessert that they did not order, so we all ended up trying each option on the menu. The only mild stand out was the dark chocolate cheesecake. All in all, we expected much more from this location and chef, especially at $35 plus an entrée.
This restaurant was great. We went for restaurant week and the menu was superb. There were lots of plant-based menu items. We even had porcini mushrooms cooked so well they tasted like pasta.
It was a very quiet and romantic. The servers were there at just the right time and never let the water (or wine) get too low.
Would recommend again.
As always, Eqinox never disappoints. With a variety of excellent food, atmosphere and service, it’s one of DC’s best.

Delicious ! We went for restaurant week but I would definitely come back again. Half of the menu was plant based , which was great being that I am a vegetarian . My friends who ate meat also loved the menu. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. The restaurant itself was on the smaller side and quiet.
Service was excellent. The food choices and wine pairing was great. Highly recommend.
Menu was intriguing and food sublime. A new favorite of mine.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at equinox, and had a fabulous time. My wife ordered from the vegan menu, I ordered from the market menu, and every dish was superb. Can’t recommend it enough.
This is a terrific restaurant. It was full when we arrived at 6:30 during restaurant week, but the service and food were perfect. We will certainly return.
Food was delicious. Great service. I sat next to a family with young children who were a little loud and busy. Next time I should have been asked if my husband and I minded being near that table. Loved the customer service overall.
Altogether satisfying! The perfect place for our anniversary.
Overall, the dining experience at Equinox was satisfactory. The food and service were good and we enjoyed not having to talk over people. However, their wine list was pretty disappointing. They have 6 reds to choose from for wines by the glass and not many more by the bottle. Also, when the AC was on, it was pretty distracting. You could hear the air coming out of the vents and it was BRUTALLY cold. I could see other guests fidgeting and commenting about the AC.
Besides the wine list and AC vent being loud and way too cold, the experience was a memorable one.
Three of us are on the Ketogenic diet. Equinox had lots of good food options for everyone! Absolutely delicious!
This is a delightful fun and experimental brunch they have on Sundays. Vegan is the theme and delicious the meme. The folks here have figured it out, thank you for your menu.
This was my first time here and it was amazing. My guest and I thoroughly enjoyed the brunch. So many options. Every dish tasted great. Will definitely come back!
The vegan brunch is outstanding! There aren't a lot of options for vegans in the DMV but Todd Gray and his team have created a high quality gem with Equinox's Sunday brunch. I'll definitely be back!
Everything about this restaurant is top notch. If I could give the food more than 5 stars, I would! Chef Gray is even better than advertised.
I was pleasantly surprised to find a vegan buffet! I have been a vegetarian for 10 years and tried nearly everything vegan and vegetarian options available. Equinox provided a variety of brunch options including pancakes, tofu scramble, salads and more. When I think of brunch, breakfast comes to mind, I was disappointed when there were only 2 breakfast options. This place was upscale and unique in their menu, but not worth the $35.
This is my third or fourth time coming to Equinox for the vegan brunch. I have always come here with a mix of vegetarian, vegan and ominovore diners and each time, people have left thoroughly satisfied and pleased with their meal. Will look forward to dining her again!
The food was good, but nowhere near the caliber I expected for what we paid. I think the menu is fine but the problem is in the execution. One dish was absolutely swimming in oil. Inexcusable. In another the heat overwhelmed the flavor (it wasn't too hot, it just drowned out many of the flavors). The wait staff were nice but not trained for high end service. We were interrupted multiple times. I truly wish them the best. Just some better execution on the dishes (especially for a Saturday night, no excuse) and more attention to how service is conducted.
There were three of us to celebrate our friend's birthday. We shared the risotto fritters - so good! Two of us had the truffle pasta special with wild mushrooms, it was amazing. Hanger steak was good. Truffled mac and cheese was really good. The staff was wonderful and did not mind that we lingered after everyone else in the dining room had left.
Excellent food and service. Great meal. I might lower the music a bit.
My wife and I love tasting menus and the ingredients provided in this were top notch, but ultimately, while the food was very good, it was not excellent, and it was at times difficult to to justify the high price of the meal. It was however a good experience, one that I am grateful to have had but not likely to repeat, primarily due to the price.
Always a wonderful escape in this city. Amazingly fresh, beautiful ingredients, playfully and deliciously managed to create a lovely experience each time. THANK YOU Equinox
Great choice of dishes and food amazing. Plenty of vegan options. Staff attentive and made celebrating our wedding anniversary all the more special. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the Washington DC area to eat here.
Wonderful! Best vegan brunch in the city!
We are repeat brunchers and had a great time coming back. The vegan brunch tasted great and was well worth the drive from Annapolis!
I was looking for someplace special for my wife's birthday and we picked Equinox. The bartender and hostess were very friendly and seated us at a nice window table. The most disappointing aspect of our visit was our waiter. He didn't bother to introduce himself. When we ordered the tasting menus I forgot to mention that we wanted the wine pairing, and he walked away without asking us if we did. When I called him back to make the change he merely stated that I didn't tell him. His performance was very perfunctory; he fumbled the silverware a couple of times. He never once cracked a smile or asked us how the food was. I never fully realized how much I appreciate good service at at restaurant until I experienced this person. It was obvious he was not a happy camper. Regarding the dinner itself, the food was good for the most part, especially the plant-based menu. However the duck course was fatty and should have met with the trash can rather than on guests' plate. The wine was good but the dessert was ho hum - no inventiveness there. We will not return.
Creative dining experience with excellent choice of entrees. Tables are far apart so that conversation is realistic.
Excellent food, including many plant-based options. The service was exceptional. We’ve added Equinox to our rotation.
Unique place for birthday meals as you can order a birthday cake prepared by the pastry chef at the restaurant. We enjoyed the tasting menu- 3 market and one vegetarian. The chocolate dessert was outstanding.
Fantastic Food, great ambiance
Truly one of the finest meals in ages. Fine, delicately prepared food in a casual atmosphere with carefully attentive service. I don’t say this lightly - a perfect meal.
Went to Equinox for a special vacation dinner and were really impressed with the presentation and flavor! Also loved that there was a plant-based tasting menu. Will definitely return some day!
Loved the rock fish but did not like what it was prepared with. The asparagus was cut way to small to be considered as part of the dish. The gnocchi was under cooked which gave it a wet appearance and was not appetizing. The service though was amazing.
Equinox is a very special restaurant. The food is always excellently prepared, and the dishes are creative. For diners seeking an impressive setting, excellent service and terrific food, Equinox cannot be surpassed.
I ventured to equinox for the Sunday brunch.
The buffet featured a nice variety of dishes incorporating culinary flavors from all over the world. Everything from the salad to the gazpacho to the tofu scramble was absolutely delicious. I personally loved the trumpet mushroom soba noodle stir fry the most. The chef achieved a deliciously savory and perfect umami taste in that dish. The tofu scramble, which I was expecting to be either bland or overly spiced as it is at most places, had this subtle flavor I could not identify, but it was absolutely delicious and not overly greasy or watery. The cauliflower tempura so many people mention in their reviews was indeed very tasty, but not my favorite dish. The salads were all incredible--the dressing was amazing and the addition of elements like roasted beet or baked artichoke elevated the flavor profiles to a new level. The gazpacho was the best I have ever tried. I also found their multigrain blueberry loaf to be extraordinary. I kept eating the slices plain--despite the myriad spreads available--because it was so tasty on its own.
However, Equinox has not come even close to mastering sweets as well as it masters savory. Everything from the pancakes--which were gummy and flavorless--to any treat on the dessert table--I tried most of them--was terrible. Absolutely terrible. The desserts just tasted like sugar and chemicals. They had no flavor, no richness--just sugar. I could not eat more than a nibble, and actually had the urge to not swallow. I thought at first it was maybe just the one dessert, but I tried the truffles, cheesecake, peanut butter cake, cannoli, and brownies without reaching a different conclusion. It was all absolutely terrible and tasted completely artificial.
Despite the disappointing sweets, I would return to brunch at equinox in a heartbeat. The savory dishes were all absolutely delicious and more than worth the price. A must-go--simply don't save room for dessert.
Great food everyone enjoyed their meal and the marvelous atmosphere.
Dinner was VERY expensive for what it was. Service was impeccable and the kitchen was very accommodating for our dietary needs.
