Dining at Equinox is always a good time. It's a staple in my vegan fiance and I's list of usual go-to restaurants. A seasonally shifting menu prepared well and top notch service make it enjoyable every time.

My wife and I have enjoyed eating at Equinox on the same weekend for over six years while attending a national association annual meeting in DC. Jimmie the bartender has always been especially entertaining and Jerry our waiter has always been refreshingly attentive. Todd the owner always makes the rounds at the bar and dining rooms making one feel special. The food is always wonderful, and having dinner with a group in the wine room is over the top. This was the first time we ate in the main dining area facing Connecticut Avenue. It was very aesthetic and enjoyable. The scale, décor and lighting in the restaurant is very intimate. We highly recommend Equinox. It is our favorite restaurant in the District.

PB options were bland and disappointing. The vegan creativity was refreshing but didn’t meet expectations. Ambiance was awesome and the wine list on a tablet was cool!

The experience was pleasant, but not outstanding. Service was a bit slow, though friendly. The food was good, but not outstanding. Best thing was the number of vegetarian dishes on the menu (one of our group of four is a vegetarian). Would give it a qualified recommendation to friends. And, it is pretty pricey for what you get.

Our Fav restaurant in DC. We live in Pittsburgh and we look for excuses to come to DC so we can eat at Equinox. We came in for Mean Girls the Musical at the National Theater and topped the weekend off with the Sunday Brunch at Equinox. We do follow a plant based diet but, you do not have to be plant based to love their food. Food, service, ambiance all around everything gets great reviews from me at EQUINOX. Thanks again Todd and staff.

This was my first visit. Certainly not my last. The service and wait staff were excellent. I have been telling family and friends alike about Equinox. Excellent job and kudos to the chef and entire staff.

Delightful meal. The post-Thanksgiving turkey burger special was delicious! And thank you to the staff who helped accommodate a nut allergy and found us some vanilla ice cream for dessert. Outstanding.

Walked in and had to flag down a server to be seated after waiting a few minutes at the entrance. Service was terrible and not friendly. Also had to flag down a server to get our waiter for the bill.
Then there was a long wait to even start the buffet because they ran out of plates. All the warm dishes were cold. Flavors and variety were good. Second round the plates and food were warmer. Generous buffet and worth $35 if you try everything. My friends loved the french toast.
Tofu station the server was friendly and welcoming, unlike our other experiences. Downside there is also only one bathroom stall for women.

Attended with friends and family for Thanksgiving dinner. Good overall menu and service was good, but not outstanding. Maybe the energy was not there, as it had been a long day. I did appreciate being able to add 2 more to our party only the day before, but my reservation was moved down by an hour. Well, the restaurant was not too full, so not sure why we could not have kept our 1 hour earlier reservation. Appreciated the bartender, and some good cocktails for sure. So, maybe will consider trying again.

This was our second year visiting Equinox for our Thanksgiving dinner. We had 2 omnivores, a vegetarian, a vegan, and one who affiliates with all those diets. EVERYBODY was pleased with each of their courses -- from appetizer through to dessert! 4 of us dined off the pre fixe menu, but since our 12 year-old is a little particular AND a vegetarian, so we were able to be a little creative with the pre-fixe menu to suit his needs. We were very grateful for that flexibility. The service is always great and we will be back again for Thanksgiving next year -- if not before!

Thanksgiving meal. Delicious turkey, but it seemed a bit harried. The level of personal attention lavished onto some diners was at the expense of the rest of us. Not a good value — not up to the standards from my prior experiences there. Recommend other Thanksgiving locations in the future.

This was one of the best meals I can remember! Each course was flavorful, well balanced, and well prepared. We were able to savor each selection, and the next item came out just when you wanted to enjoy it. The service was also excellent, and the recommendations made by our server were phenomenal!

Went for a multi-generational family brunch. Somehow we didn't know that it would be only the vegan gluten-free buffet, which may seem better if you're vegan or gluten free. No one said anything like, "please help yourself to the buffet" so we were waiting for a while for menus until one of us eventually noticed that it was buffet only. They were out of some of the items and the rest were cold. So we had to ask them to reheat some of the items. Even then it was slim pickings and not very good. We were enjoying our conversation, but got tired of staring at our empty plates. They were not very busy but not attentive at all. We had been to this restaurant a number of times before and were quite surprised that the food and service at brunch were so terrible.

Great food choices ... open bar on Sunday’s brunch .. all vegun .. deserts were overkill!! Way too sweet ..
coffe was very weak too watery ... and preety expensive !
$56 per person w coffee
It should be included in buffet prefix w juices and coffee and teas ..
in my options it was overboard
But
I think the food was great !

Although food was amazing and the ambiance is great our first 30 minutes were problematic. I had made a special request for a great table as birthday celebration. They brought us to table near street and it wasn’t great. Asked could we be moved to x table and was told no. After rearranging ourselves several times as floor was uneven and chair rocked my husband asked our waiter could we move into dining room as he was also cold. Was told no ALL tables were accounted for and restaurant fully booked. So we tried to settle in and enjoy even though lighting was stark and only view was dark street and massive wall. Then waiter said we could move as someone had cancelled. We moved to 2 person table that was fantastic and from then on delightful experience. But throughout our 2 hour and over $200 experience there were at least 4 tables ( 2 if which table for 2) that was never occupied. Most likely trying to even out waiters work load but still! We were clearly unhappy and there were so many empty tables. And also didn’t appreciate being ( lied to) as they said numerous times restaurant was fully booked. We were there during prime time 6:45-8:45. Finally although we saw another table receive a birthday candle surprise we were not. So why bother asking us for special requests. Fortunately we did the 4 course chef menu with wine pairing and super enjoyed it

I don't get to Equinox very often because I live and work in Virginia. However, it's one of my favorite restaurants. I make a point of eating dinner there when I'm downtown in the evening for some event that doesn't include dinner, which I did last week with two business associates. As usual, the food was excellent, the wine list superb (and easy to navigate) and the service impeccable. My only disappointment was that Chef Todd Gray wasn't there that evening to say "hello" to him.

I went with a friend hoping to have a vegan fine dining option. The restaurant more than met our expectations. We each had a four course wine pairing dinner which was fantastic. The meal progressed through butternut squash soup, pasta, hearts of palm that actually tasted like crab cakes , vegan cheese and pecan pie. It was all superb. We loved it all and cannot wait to go back. It was so great and refreshing to enjoy a vegan fine dining experience that was not an afterthought.

A delicious buffet vegan brunch is offered here on Sundays. I ordered an autumn harvest latte with sweet potato puree which was perfect for a chilly fall morning. The food here is fresh and creative and worth the hour trip for us.

Equinox, in my opinion, is one of the best kept restaurant secrets in DC in terms of excellent food, service and ambiance. It is consistently outstanding in every way. I ate lunch there recently and had the special, seared ahi tuna served over a wonderful cassoulet of chickpeas, tomatoes and seasonings that was so interesting and delicious. I have never had a mediocre meal there! I highly recommend it without reservation!

Huge private party which blocked all light, view and ambiance because of heavy ugly curtain separating them from all of us seated in half of what remained of the restaurant.Spotty service and they brought a younger wine than the one we ordered without pointing it out. Meager wine list. Pasta stuck together. Also freezing where we were seated. Have had great lunches there so brought special out of town guests. Very disappointing.

I am a vegetarian so I loved having Equinox as an option in the business lunch scene dominated by steakhouses, but it pains me to say I will not be coming back. Average entree is $20-ish for lunch. I ordered the special, a vegetarian pasta with brussel sprout leaves, parmesan and truffle oil. Get the check, it's $56. I balk and ask why on earth if a special is three times the price of every other pasta on the menu, they would not say so. Waiter says no one ever asks (BECAUSE YOU SHOULD VOLUNTEER THAT HIGHLY COUNTER-INTUITIVE INFORMATION) and said he would discount the price. It was discounted $8 to the appetizer portion. He tells me white truffle is thousands of dollars and people don't always know that. That is obnoxious, and a reason why you should say the price. I guess it's expensive but I don't know how much and shouldn't be expected to factor that in. This is not an "obvious" luxury item like filet mignon with a side of foie gras. You can get truffle mac or truffle fries at your neighborhood Olive Garden. Also, I didn't love the "special" and thought it was oily. I have eaten here before and had a good experience, but this was unbelievable. You cannot just scam customers this way just because you typically have a business crowd. Concealing information from your customers is not a way to show how "upscale" you are, it is downright dishonest. You lost a repeat customer.

***EDITED: The managers were very persistent in calling me back and apologizing for the situation and have offered to comp the price of a future meal. I was happy to hear they have implemented a policy chance and now print the special, along with the price, on the menu (which is really the only fix I was interested in). Raising to 3-stars because I appreciate them implementing a change.

We had a wonderful time! One of our guests is vegan and Equinox had come highly recommended by many neighbors and friends. It did not disappoint. We were especially touched that we were able to meet Todd himself, who generously welcomed our table with an appetizer of Jerusalem artichokes.

I loved my scallops but was really thrilled with my curry cauliflower soup.

I will be back and would strongly recommend to others, vegan or not.

We went for brunch for our anniversary and the food was great! I could not get enough of the tempura cauliflower! Everything is vegan so it was nice going to a buffet without having to worry what was in something. Knowing it was our anniversary, they even gave us a card at the end! It is a bit pricey, but the quality is excellent and it is good for a special occasion. Also, we definitely did not need to eat again that day!

Everything about our experience was top notch. We went to Equinox to celebrate my husband's birthday because of the variety of plant-based options on the menu. Everything we ordered was delicious, the service was impeccable, my husband loved the wine, and the restaurant was busy but it wasn't too noisy so it was still easy to have a nice conversation.

I was very excited to try Equinox, especially for their vegan menu options. The ambiance was nice and the service was good, but a little reserved. I found the flavors of some of the dishes disappointing - the hearts of palm "crab cakes" were not seasoned enough and tasted bland. The cauliflower tempura had a bold, interesting flavor, but it was too pungent - I could only eat a few. On the other hand, the pasta was chewy and delicious. The dessert plate of a cookie, biscuit and truffle was very good and the highlight of the meal for me. And the cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages were light and refreshing. Overall, it was an interesting meal.

My wife and I came here for her birthday, and we were not disappointed! We each ordered the four course meal, and she selected the vegan option. Each wine pairing and course were better than the last! So glad we got in during white truffle season. The staff made sure to make my wife's birthday special and memorable. I would highly recommend Equinox for a fine dining experience or special occasion.
