Equinox - DC
Our first time at Equinox, the vegan brunch was outstanding. We can't wait to go back!
This review is for our recent Sunday Brunch. We were a few minutes early for our reservation and were seated promptly. Unfortunately my view was of a wall which could have easily been resolved by reorienting the square table 90 degrees. It was quiet and yet to become very busy however our server took a long time to greet us and even walked past us awkwardly without saying he would be right with us or even acknowledging we were there. Eventually he came by but never seemed genuinely happy or friendly as one would expect from an establishment such as this. The plant based brunch was smaller than expected but very good. There was a good selection of unique spreads for our bread however it was a bit of a guessing game because they all appeared unique yet none of the containers were labeled. The price was fair but I now feel I way over-tipped the server. Additionally, I have used open table to book many special occasions and add detail to the reservation notes or comment field. Up until this reservation we would always experience a host or server say happy birthday or anniversary etc. Not this time - It was our 15 Year wedding anniversary and one would think a place like Equinox would convey a simple congrats and thanks for coming - not this time. Not even a “happy Easter” until I said it first. Final note.... parking is validated and you save $10 which is cool but they do not share this info at the restaurant which caused me to have to run back in while the valet got my vehicle. The valet was nice and the most considerate of anyone we met during brunch. He earned all the cash I had :)
We attended the Easter Sunday Vegan Brunch and it was amazing! We've eaten at Equinox many times and are always thrilled with the selection of delicious, creative offerings and wonderful service.
Delicious meal. Excellent service!
I love that this place has an all vegan brunch. The food was good although the pastries were a little on the dry side. I loved the food options and range provided. Everything was good. In addition, I love that for their mimosa's you receive an entire bottle of champagne for your table instead of just tons of juice. The only thing I would ask the chef to change is the pancake station. I think they would benefit from a fresh pancake station which would allow you to add fresh ingredients to the pancakes.
Great vegan brunch with a brilliant assortment of flavors. I was pleasantly surprised by the tasty assortment of condiments (jams, chutneys, pesto, etc.)... and that bundt cake!
We are visiting DC and the restaurant was recommended to us by two different parties. They gave us great advice. The food was wonderful and our experience was very positive. It was a lovely evening.
Food was amazing. Service great! Looking forward to coming back.
Marked delay in getting entrees out
This has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants in DC, I wish I'd discovered it sooner! Their vegetarian and vegan options are amazing. More sophisticated that founding Farmers, anytime I want to treat myself to a nice lunch or dinner, Equinox is high on the list. We sat outside for lunch and enjoyed the sunshine (with well placed umbrellas).
I had dinner with a friend on Tuesday April 9th. My experience at Equinox has always been wonderful, but much to my surprise, I was really disappointed. The server was aloof and barely responsive to menu questions. He did not seem to care about enabling an enjoyable experience, he also only addressed the gentleman at the table. I felt we were putting him out with just being there. The food was also not up to the Equinox standard I am accustomed to. I always enjoyed the inventiveness of the menu - we had the prawns, risotto and pork chop - all were fine but not exceptional. I am hoping it was just an off night. I want to go back and experience the previous meals and service I've had but will need to think hard about this. As we were leaving, one of the staff came outside with my scarf in his arms which I had left on the back of my chair. He was lovely and thoughtful, just he had taken care of us the entire night
so perhaps this would have been a different review.
Love vegan brunch. Delicious food & great service!
I tried the vegan brunch a few years back and it was great then. Now I am just blown away at how interesting the dishes are and how popular this brunch has gotten. The food was wonderful, the day was absolutely beautiful (they offer outdoor seating), and the service staff was very friendly and attentive. All in all such a fun brunch experience, we will be back more often for sure!
Excellent vegan brunch as always!
Great service and amazing food as usual! Love this place!
Loved vegan brunch! Our server Brett was knowledgeable and fun. All of the brunch options were delicious (mmm pad Thai) and the cocktails were beautiful. Such a great experience.
Vegan brunch was very tasty. We expected the restaurant to be crowded on a Sunday morning based on other reviews, but to our delight it was quiet and very relaxed. Waitstaff was very attentive!
I highly recommend the Sunday Vegan Brunch. This is a great experience no matter your dining proclivities, and is a great change to the same old brunch options. The chef is extremely talented to put together such great dishes, and the service from the experienced, professional, and friendly staff make the meal quite memorable. This a great place for special occasions and of course vegans!!
Outstanding vegan brunch. My previous visits to the vegan brunch have been good but not as good as this visit on March 31. There were more and better choices of food items, including deserts.
Jeff was such a fantastic server and made our 50th anniversary very special. The food was amazing and made Go an unforgettable experience.
Would not recommend the restaurant based on our experience. The food was good but not great, and as a result was overpriced in our opinion. Our server (would prefer not to name, though remember the name clearly), though cordial, was not very knowledgeable about either the menu items or the limited specialty drinks. The menu has a wide variety of atypical type ingredients and dishes/ entrees/starters/shared plates, etc., so for first time diners we hoped for more help with menu information, and again, considering the prices, we expected more. We arrived at 6 with a reservation, and had theater tickets for a nearby show at 8. at 7:35 we had to insist on the check being brought to us as our meals arrived. The restaurant is small, so service should likely have not been this slow. We were nearly late for the show. Perhaps we just went to the restaurant on an off night.
Ive been to this restaurant several times and it never disappoints. The staff is friendly and attentive and the food is wonderful, beautifully presented and creatively prepared.
Special dinner date with my adult daughter, who I only see once a quarter and we are both plant based eaters. Happily, this restaurant features both market (omnivorous) and plant based menu options, and the plant based choices were delicious! Elegant, fine cuisine. What a winner!
A very special dining experience! Went for my birthday dinner based on a colleague's recent experience for his wedding anniversary (he raved about Equinox). From the moment we walked in the door to the double chocolate cake dessert - the service was extraordinary. Our host, Randy, was as witty as he was attentive - simply the best.
The menu is a wonder as it contains so many vegetarian options, but there are no culinary sacrafices - I ordered the mushroom bolognese and it was divine. Equally, my sister ordered the melt in your mouth short ribs (we shared) - mmmm, I want to go back ... now! Crowd was a nice mix of DC elite meeting after work , as well as couples, and all ages (30-something to beyond). We'll be back - hopefully sooner than later!
Fantastic brunch experience! Service was wonderful as usual. Happy to see such a bustling vegan crowd!
Excellent D.C. dining experience. One of the best!
We had dinner there twice and our waiter Jeffery was fabulous. The chef came out both nights to check and thank us for coming in. Highly recommended
Equinox is an upbeat but low key way to have an excellent, fresh meal in DC. Having been there early in its history, we rediscovered it recently and have been back several times. Service is attentive but not overbearing, food is always thoughtful, tasty, and properly cooked,
As always, the food is interesting and tasty, the service is excellent, the chairs at the tables are comfortable...what more can you ask?
I enjoyed the ambiance food and service, except that it was a bit more oil than desired. But it was a delicious brunch with a variety of foods.
Delicious and elegant atmosphere as usual!
Another wonderful dinner at Equinox. Fresh, creative, inspiring American cuisine. Chef Todd Gray and his team are outstanding. Downtown scene is elegant yet relaxed. Perfect for our large group (6) or for a romantic dinner. This is one of the best restaurants in D.C. and my personal favorite.
Travelling by myself from Montreal, I sat at the bar and chatted with Roman, the bar tender, throughout my delicious meal. I also got to meet the chef and enjoyed discussing “restaurants” with him. The food was flavourful, inventive and nicely presented. Would return when next in DC.
The food was good but the service was very personal and excellent
The shareable artichoke alla Romana is not to be missed. All of the food was expertly prepared and delicious. The service, as usual, was attentive without being intrusive. Equinox continues to live up to its own high standards. Can't wait to go back.
Loved the vegan brunch spread and friendly staff. Always a fun experience at Equinox!
The staff was welcoming and helpful. The variety of items to choose from was incredible. Everything was flavorful and fresh. I will be returning.
Absolutely delicious with a delightful assortment and presentation. Love the servers. Love seeing the chef and owner.
The food sits lightly on the palate, with some nice surprises mixed in, especially with the vegan dishes. Lovely wine selection, with some bottles that I rarely find in DC (such as Sicilian whites). The service is attentive and warm, but discreet, and the noise level low, encouraging long conversations. We are repeat customers, and plan to return.
I wasn’t happy about the food. The mushroom bolognese was bland. The bread was really really stale and the eggplant chips were overly oily! I liked the baba ganoush dip and the tempura dish. The Mac and cheese was good. Finally, the chocolate cake was literally just a microwaved cupcake upside down. I’m very disappointed!
