Epicurean Café also hosts several corporate lunches, dinners and parties each month. Private dining is available for groups of up to 40. Epicurean Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Though the kitchen took awhile to deliver our food, the waiter was very experienced and kept us updated. The atmosphere was cozy enough to have a great conversation while we waited, almost like European dining, so we didn't mind the passing time. Once the food was delivered everything was excellently prepared -- halfway between fancy and foodie. If you are not in a rush, this is a great dining spot to try out in the Gwinnett area.
The enchanting restaurant in old town Duluth has the intimate decor of a simple turn of the century home. With an emphasis on freshness and flavor, the chef creates his food so that each ingredient has a purpose; nothing is left to chance.
Fresh rolls with citrus butter, served first, were a hint of the delights to come.
Watermelon Feta Salad and a Persimmon Orange Salad, both generously portioned, were delicious. The feta cheese was a salty contrast to the fresh watermelon. A work of art in itself, the persimmon salad had thin slices of persimmons, oranges, and other colorful vegetables topped with matchsticks of smoked gouda and a sweet and tangy dressing. A nice pop of cracked black pepper near the bottom of the dish was a tantalizing surprise and really enhanced the flavor of the whole dish.
The Salt and Pepper shrimp advertised on the menu as hot (spicy) were served atop sauteed onions and peppers in a spicy, sweet and tangy sauce. The jumbo shrimp were perfectly cooked and plump with a light crispy saltiness. We didn't eat the habanero peppers in the sauce, but they added a nice heat that was not too spicy for us.
The Fried Green Tomatoes are not your grandma's, they're much better. The breading had a wonderful salty crunchiness (every tomato needs salt), but it didn't end there. Among the slices of crisp fried tomatoes was creamy brie, and bits of bacon. Served with a balsamic reduction. Fabulous!
Entrees included Seared Salmon with garlic mashed potatoes, sauteed spinach and a beurre blanc sauce; also a fresh Grilled Mahi-Mahi with Shrimp Risotto. The chef's shrimp risotto was remarkable; smooth and creamy but not overcooked with plump pieces of shrimp, the flavor was amazing with subtle hint of thyme and other herbs, but no spices or herbs were visible. Very well executed, and absolutely exquisite.
This was our first visit to the Epicurean Cafe, but it won't be our last. And we'll be bringing friends.
The menu is fantastic, appears to offer something for everyone. We chose the beef brisket with sweet mashed potatoes, the tomato bisque (both off of the menu) and then the specials: persimmon salad and the grilled octopus with okra. Everything was beautifully presented, great value, and incredibly delicious. It's the first time we have been since the restaurant changed from The Park Cafe to its new Epicurean Cafe. Chef Omar Powell really has his act together in that kitchen! We'll be back.
We've always enjoyed dining here. It's a beautiful setting and the service was great as usual. Unfortunately the rack of lamb that two of the guests had was not good at all. It was mostly fat and gristle, very little meat, and impossible to eat. The duck and steak dishes the other two of us had were great, though.
The trout special was perfect - filets cooked well and served with both fresh pea risotto and veggies dressed with beure blanc sauce. The veggies were not your typical cauliflower. broccoli, carrot blend but rather bok choy, a variety of fresh peppers and grape tomatoes. Yum.
Great lunch, while shopping in Old Town Duluth we had lunch here. Great service, very attentive staff, owner was very friendly. Had lunch special: Kale Salad, Tomato Soup and Pork Tacos - everything was delicious. My Mom enjoyed the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich. Location is in a cute house with individual rooms. Definitely would come back
The food was fabulous! This is a great place to dine to get away from the noisy restaurant environment. Chef Omar came out to personally thank me and my guest for choosing Epicurean for our dining experience. That just topped off a wonderful evening with friends.
Service extremely slow. Food was good ... Once they got it correct, steak was incorrectly cooked twice. Ended up eating it the second time around, because we had places to be.
Heard the servers talking about how they were extremely busy, but there was essentially no one inside; all service was on the patio.
If you have after dinner plans ... avoid this place, or else you'll miss them.
My meal was very good---lightly grilled pompano fish with fresh corn and peas in rice (the special). The waitress said seasonal vegetables would accompany it but there were about 5 string beans and 2 cherry tomatoes. Somewhat disappointing. Our waitress also seemed confused about the wines, even though we noted later the description further down on menu. Can't put my finger on it but odd feel to this place....we noted only 2 other couples besides us there at 7pm on a Saturday night.
Dined to celebrate birthdays for the entire dinner party! Atmosphere was outstanding. Felt welcomed upon entering the restaurant and throughout the evening. Service was superb! Spoke with owners and the chef in addition to the waitstaff. Each person, made the dinner hour very special.
Words can't describe how delectable the food was. We tried the Salt and Pepper Shrimp. This is definitely for the palate that can handle spicy. The Honey Soy Braised Pork Belly was very tasty. One of the specials for the evening was the Short Rib. The meat was so tender. The portion served was enough to share or to take home. One other entree that deserves mentioning is the Shrimp and Grits which was also delicious. Our Wine choices were very complimentary for both the red meat and the seafood selections that we had.
Don't forget to end the evening with dessert. Recommendations are the Rum Baptized Tres Leche or the Warm Chocolate Almond Bread Pudding. Can't wait to dine here again!
Since the Epicurean Cafe is located downtown Duluth, parking adjacent to the restaurant is limited. However, common parking areas are within a very short walking distance to the restaurant.
So after living in Duluth for four years we finally made reservations and an anniversary date night at Epicurean and it was worth the wait. Having attended group events here we decided to do dinner for two. Incredible evening. The atmosphere, knowledgeable staff, awesome menu offerings and the choices of wine were all a delight. Give them a try and you will not be disappointed. I know we will be back again.
My husband and I ate here for date night. I ordered the salad with shrimp. He ordered the pork tenderloin. Overall, the food/drink was excellent starting from the cocktails to the bread and then to the main courses. The outdoor seating was quiet and relaxing. The downside was that the service was very slow, even though the restaurant was almost empty.
We went this past Friday evening, and it was a group of 6 of us. There were events going on all around the restaurant outside, and it was a beautiful evening. We were seated on the beautiful covered porch. When it began getting darker the lights under the covering came on.
Our server was very good and well versed with the restaurant and chef. We ordered a variety of appetizers. OlThey were all good but the dip and spread sampling was our favorite. I would also recommend the fried green tomatoes. For dinner we all had something different. Duck and pasta, steak, chicken with mashed sweet potatoes, shrimp and grits, the hamburger with pork bellies, and that evening's special was trout with pea and mushroom risotto. It was all excellent!
We also ordered 3 of the desserts. The seasonal fruit tart was our favorite. We didn't care that much for 2 of the desserts. The chocolate and almond bread pudding was a bit heavy on the almond extract. I would love to see an almond paste or almareto used in this. The tres leche cake with grilled pineapple was good , but none of us were fans of the nutmeg in this or the mashed sweet potatoes. This is all just personal taste.
We loved the evening with food, friends, drinks, and atmosphere. We will certainly be back soon!
The food was very good. Fish special was delicious and my husband's steak was yummy too. The server was distracted and slow even though the place was not busy. He seemed flustered and had the hostess filling in for him throughout our meal. It is a good thing we were happy with our food because no one ever checked on us. We will not go back.
