Enterprise Fish Co. - Santa Barbara
Built in 1917, the historic building now home to our Santa Monica restaurant was once a transfer station for the narrow-gauge Red Car line, Los Angeles' first mass transit system. It was later the repair house for the world-famous Pacific Ocean Park, home to the oldest wooden roller coaster west of the Mississippi. These days, we're still a stone's throw from Venice Beach, heart of where L.A. goes to play -- and eat.
We were a few minutes ahead of our reservation time, and when we checked in the host indicated our table would be ready on time. He asked if we wanted "front" seating or would we take "back" seating. Being our first time, I asked the difference in the two and didn't get an answer so I indicated we would take either. We did get seated in the "back" on time, but when we tried to get happy hour appetizers and drinks, we were told we where not seated in the front area thus Happy Hour was not available to us. This was surprising, we have never been in a restaurant where food/drink pricing was dependent on table location. There was even a Happy Hour advertisement on our table! The waitress did say that she could try to get us moved to the front but there was a wait.
Our meals were average (seafood skewer was ok & swordfish overcooked). Lobster bisque was very good. Service was good.
I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. I'm sure there are better seafood restaurants in the area which cater more to food excellence. They actually lost revenue from us because we chose to forgo appetizers and drinks.
Great place to stop for dinner and drink with friends. Service was great, food was great
We travel around the country in the summer in our RV.
My husband and I have eaten at many fantastic places.
The lobster bisque is to die for.
Try the charbroiled oysters and 2lb lobster.
We have one more day here in Santa Barbara and will be back for dinner tomorrow.
Good food, good service. Noise level, off-the-charts ridiculous.
Don't bother indicating if it's a special occasion via open table as they obviously don't bother to read those comments.
Generally speaking the Enterpise is a great place.
In my opinion, the BEST Lobster Bisque far and wide.
This visit, the Bisque was it's usual delight, but my salmon w/ Dijon sauce was a bit bland. Both of my dinner companions really enjoyed their meals.
The service was decent, but could have been more attentive. Nice young man, but perhaps a bit overwhelmed, as it was busy.
Again, one of my favorite seafood spots.
Good food, service pretty good considering it was a busy Thursday night. Would go back if we were in the area again.
Great , 10/10
Our server Jody was amazing (as always), and my family felt very happy with our food and service. 10/10 would recommended. :)
hostess was very nice and talkative. server exact opposite. came to our table once to check on us.
food was ok. I expected more for the money. will not be recommending your establishment and will definitely not be returning. :(
We miss the fish...that was important.
It wa s way to noisy.
We will think twice about dining there again unless there is some quiet area were we can hear each other talk.
I can see were you can make more money with the remodel...but is now more of a bar and less of a great seafood restaurant. 🙁
Great place with very good food. The redecoration has allowed them to put more tables in and that has made the already noisy restaurant even noisier.
Food was awesome and service was great!!! This was a great place to take my mom for mother’s day!!!
We went on Mother’s Day and it was great. The waitress was amazing and the food was fantastic. We live in Nipomo, but this is a place we will definitely come back to.
Great food and decent prices for the quality and portions of food. The ambiance is a classic fish house with TV's showcasing the latest sport games. A little noisy on a Saturday night and would recommend making a reservation as the place gets packed! Would recommend this place for anyone looking for a solid fish spot on State Street in Santa Barbara.
I would tell friends it's overall just okay, food was okay, service started okay, waitress forgot about us, wanted a second drink, never came back to are table till time to take plates and leave bill
Enterprise Fish Co. Is an icon in lower State St. We enjoyed our time there, and all was good.
The one thing i had issues with was the food. My brother-in-law had the shrimp, he said he remembered it being larger last time he was there, My wife had the seafood platter that was very over cooked. But the Fish & Chips was very good along with the Lobster Roll starter.
So it seemed just good enough to give it another try next time we are in Santa Barbara.
Food was great as well as the service
The food was great but our waitress was outstanding. Her attention to detail made the dinner.
Fun, good food and attentive service!
We have been coming to Enterprise Fish since 1998 every year.
This year I felt that the standard of the service is not as high as it use to be.
Food remains excellent.
Ambiance needs revisiting and upgrading.
Heerlijk gegeten, leuk restaurant, wel druk, altijd van te voren reserveren.
The Monday-Tuesday lobster special is an excellent value and delicious!
They did some remodeling since our last visit. Looks great. More open. Because of that they took off a couple of items that we usually order. Halibut and sea bass. But there’s still plenty to choose from and it was delicious as always.
Food was terrible, over cooked and under cooked fish. Nothing was fresh. A total waste of my hard earned money.
Lively place with good food and happy hour
Food except for Lobster Puff Pastry was disappointing. They did not know how to handle our Open Table credit which was supposed to apply to the bill and that was awkward.
Wonderful location, lively and upbeat ambience. Very good food and service. Recommend it!
The Lobster Bisque Puffed Pastry was amazing!
Amazing price for tue special 2lb Lobster tail it was delicious my sister and I split it we had a grilled artichoke and we had a Caesar salad one of the best meals they only charge $37, that’s not counting the alcohol 🍷
Food and service was excellent. Great seafood at reasonable prices. As the decore has open-beam ceilings and hard surfaces the noise level is quite high.
MISS THE AQUARIUM. ALSO FOOD PORTIONS SEEMED SMALLER. THE FACT THAT YOU ARE NOW ALLOWED ONLY ONE COMPLIMENTARY BREAD BASKET AND MUST PAY FOR ANY ADDITIONAL BREAD BASKET SEEMS PETTY (ALTHOUGH I USUALLY NEVER REQUEST ADDITIONAL BREAD).
Great happy hour and super friendly wait staff. Food was well good and while busy, food and drinks came quickly. Rebecca wrote out a list of things we should do in town, highly appreciated
Very relaxed atmosphere. Service was excellent. I had the Macadamia encrusted MahiMahi which was amazing. Veggies were cooked perfectly. Have the brussel sprouts appetizer. Delicious!
It took 30 mins to get water and our order taken. Once we ate and we’re finished and asked for our check it took another 30 minutes to get our check.
Everything was great! Men enjoyed their 2 lb lobster specialist with 2 sides; ladies enjoyed a crab Louis shrimp combo salad. Highly recommend this restaurant
We were excited to come across this fun urban restaurant on our recent stay to Santa Barbara. It’s a little tricky to get to if you’re driving but worth the effort. The vibe is fun and the food diverse and unique. We were glad we made reservations as there was a wait out the door when we arrived. The top shelf margarita was so yummy, I wish I could have had a third! We ordered the artichoke, Brussels sprouts, chicken with vegetables, sirloin with broccoli and deluxe burger and fries. No one was disappointed. The Brussels sprout had a wonderful flavor and we wished the size were bigger so that we could have had more. The burger was so delicious. There were many other menu items that we wished we could have ordered, as well but our stomach’s were too small. The wait staff is attentive at first but a little scarce as our visit went on. If you are in a hurry you will have to stay on top of them and seek them out. We would visit again.
Our waitperson was excellent! I had not been there for lunch before, so it was quite enjoyable - much quieter than at night.
First time there. There are so many seafood options in SB, but this will always be our "go to" as long as they run the Groupon and have reasonable happy hour. Loved it.
Had to wait to be seated, although others coming in after us were seated. Wait staff was very distracted and got our order wrong several times. Watched our waitress "hanging" out with other staff in the bar talking while she was still waiting on us. Didn't receive all of the items we ordered, but they were on our bill, which had to be removed
Great food, great price and excellent service! What more do you want
