Perfect For:
  • Creative Cuisine
  • Special Occasion
  • Fit for Foodies
Experience Japanese dining in a beautiful, authentic Japanese restaurant located in the West Village of Manhattan. We offer the rich traditions of Japanese cooking with Chef Abe Hiroki’s modern yet relaxed style of dining centered around a procession of small plates.

We adhere to the fundamentals of Japanese cooking: respecting the ingredients and their natural flavors, cooking in the moment, and letting the ingredients speak for themselves. We have created an extensive menu, featuring dishes as fresh tofu (prepared six times a night), saikyo miso black cod, stone grilled Washugyu and Wagyu steaks, an assortment of sashimi and sushi rolls and three signature EN Kaiseki tasting menus. To compliment your dining experience, we have developed a list of over 80 sakes and 25 shochus as well as carefully crafted signature cocktails and wine list. Polish your meal off with a choice from 27 Japanese whiskies, a lineup that is hard to beat.

Overall good food and experience. The one issue we had was that when ordering, the waiter told us that our order looked “light” and if we were hungry, he would suggest we keep ordering an additional few items. We declined and as it turned out, we had already “way” over ordered. Left a sour taste to be frank. Seemed like we were being “up-sold” which is never good.

Everything was perfect. It was my husband’s birthday and I am 30 weeks pregnant, and we were both able to find many options on the menu that met both our needs. The staff was lovely and paced our plates beautifully. We wouldn’t have changed a thing and will definitely be back!

EN has been a favorite for a very long time and doesn’t disappoint. We were a party of two and were seated side by side at the center “bar” table which made it difficult to chat. We asked for another table and were moved to the front room which is more lounge-like but cozy. Had the miso cod, grilled chicken on the stone, garlic rice and a variety of appetizers. The sake selection is pretty amazing too. Attentive and knowledgeable service. Always a treat to have a meal here.

Weird vibe, was half empty all night on a Saturday night. Everyone was on their phones. Service was not great, food was pretty good.

The food was just meh. In the tuna avocado salad the size of the salad was of a small side dish but not the price! The avocado wasn’t ripe! The chriashi type dish was mediocre. The cod was good but it’s hard to mess up cod. Don’t waste your time there there are much much better Japanese places all around for cheaper.

We both had the tasting with the sake pairing. The food was wonderful and quite flavorful. The sake pairing was ok but the servers clearly weren’t trained about the food or the pairing at all. All they can tell us was the sake goes well with the sushi, the chicken, the soba etc. nothing else.
It left us a bit puzzled... A large part of doing a pairing is to discover new wines/sakes and learn about them. Not just handed the drinks and say here’s your drink that goes well with your meal. Truly the most disappointing pairing experience at a fine dining establishment.

Un endroit calme et décor épuré
Qualité de nourriture toujours sans défaut
Le service un peu maladroit, car pressé de fermer .

Huge place with massive staff in Tribeca, so overpriced. Staff provides explanations for each dish that sounds canned and was unnecessary for me since I have ample experience with Izakaya, therefore just annoying. High point was when they started describing the oshinko pickle dish in the middle of our conversation. Staff seemed unprofessional and hostess was rude. I won't go back.

Food is good, Uni is very sticky and we asked to take off. Service is so-so. I told them this is birthday party and they promised to lighten a candle when we order the dessert, but unfortunately, nothing.
To be honest I can find the tons of restaurants which have the same quality of Japanese foods but better service in NYC, so will not come again.

The food and service were outstanding. I ordered the miso marinated black cod and it was superb. It is a full meal with the specially-made house Tofu, salad and miso soup. My wife enjoyed the sushi tuna salad and our business colleague ordered one of the sashimi entre's...all were outstanding.

We have enjoyed going to En for special occasions over the years. This year we were celebrating a birthday and ordered the kaiseki meals. Our experience was disappointing because two of the dishes were below expectation. The lobster with scallop was mushy (the lobster) and very overdressed with a sweet sauce. Another dish just didnt suit our tastes (a mushroom and beef with butter slabs shabu shabu that was slimy, and not particularly tasty) and seemed to replace the usual hot stone course. The other thing was that in the past when they know its a birthday they will bring an assortment of desserts or something a little extra, but they didnt this time. The other dishes were up to par and thoroughly enjoyed, but one hopes for consistency, and for the delicacy that usually goes with meals at En.

I used to love coming here as the food is consistently good. And ambiance was lovely. But recently the service has been so disappointing and rude. Front of house is warm and welcoming. And this is completely let down by the serving staff who do not smile, roll their eyes when you ask for something and whizz by when you’re waving your arm for attention. What a shame as the food is delicious and fresh. Hats off to the chef but boo to the servers. And it’s gotten expensive. Won’t be back for a while.

Kaiseki dishes were completely lackluster and insubstantial. Service was okay outside of having to wait 20mins for seating despite being on time. Food was served at the wrong temperature and tasteless. Although a regular customer in the past, I will not be returning to En.

The restaurant was supposed to open at 530. No one was there and they did not seat us till 545. At 6 I told the hostess we had a show and needed to order. She said right away but nobody came. So we paid for our one drink we got from bar while waiting and left. The hostess and waitress were awful

Had a table booked for 3ppl for 2:15pm. Two of us arrived at 2:10pm. We’re seated for 2:17pm only to be told the kitchen closed at 2:25pm. Why they’d take the reservation no one knows. Such bad unapologetic service. We’d to leave and find a new restaurant that would actually serve us food.

Been coming here for years. Fabulous setting and decent food. The staff can be quite haughty and not very obliging. The food is ok but not as amazing as the descriptions or setting would suggest. Definitely the most impressive thing about this place is the interior design (and the sake list!)

my wife and I eat out often and enjoy varied, interesting menus and dishes:
came on the recommendation of friends;
this restaurant is a beautiful setting, spacious and well appointed:
the service from beginning to end was impeccable:
ingredients were very fresh;
presentation varied and truly interesting
preparations were rather bland, all fish tasted the same;
as the night went on, noise level became very loud to the point of being irritating;
we had two of the three special menus, they were both disappointing;
too expensive for the quality of the food;
will not recommend or return
there are much more appropriately priced options in New York;
